1. wonder /'w?nd?/ n.奇观;奇迹
eg:We all know the Great Wall is an ancient wonder.

后面常常跟由when,where,why等引导的宾语从句,从句的语序要用陈述句语序。
e.g. The teacher wonders why the little girl doesn’t like learning maths.

2. join in 参加某种活动,加入到
eg:We all joined in the game.我们都参加了游戏。
join in 后面接的宾语一般是表示竞赛、娱乐、游戏等活动的名词或 v. -ing
join 指加入某个党派、团体组织等, 成为其成员, 如参军、入团、入党等
take part in 指参加会议或群众性活动等, 着重说明主语参加该项活动并在活动中发挥作用
3. discussion/d?'sk??n/n.讨论;商讨 动词形式为discuss
eg: I knew how to do it after the discussion.
讨论后我知道该怎么做了。
have a discussion with sb. 意为“和某人讨论”。
under discussion 意为“讨论中”。
eg:Mr. Smith had a discussion with us about the film just now.
【点拨】have a discussion with sb.意为“和某人讨论”。
4. be sure. . . 确信……
【拓展】be sure的三种搭配
(1)be sure to do sth. 一定要做某事
(2)be sure of sth. /oneself 对某事/某人有把握
(3)be sure + that从句 确信……
1. Be sure to come to school on time tomorrow. 明天一定要准时来学校。
2. He’s not sure of himself these days. 他近来没有自信。
5. I think... 我认为……
eg:I think you had better finish your homework on time.
我认为你最好按时完成作业。
I don't think...是否定前移的用法。即主句的谓语动词用否定形式,而从句的谓语动词用肯定形式。
eg:I don't think I know you.我想我并不认识你。
6. agree with 同意
eg:I'm afraid I can't agree with you.
恐怕我不能同意你的观点。
agree with后面跟人作宾语,通常用于赞成某人的观点等,表示同某人意见一致。
(1)agree to意为“同意”,后接表示“计划、提
议、办法、安排”等的词。
eg:agree to my plan 同意我的计划
(2)agree to do sth.同意做某事
eg:We agree to go swimming.
我们同意去游泳。
7. though/???/ conj.虽然;尽管;然而;可是
eg:Though it was raining, we went there.
虽然下着雨,我们还是去了那儿。
though“尽管”,引导让步状语从句。though=although/even though。
易错点:but 不能和though,even though或although同时
出现在一个句子中。
eg:Though it was late,he still went on working.
=It was late.He still went on working,though.
=It was late,but he still went on working.
虽然天色已晚,但是他仍然继续工作。
8. 1,700 metres wide 1700米宽
eg:Victoria Falls is about 1,700 metres wide.
维多利亚瀑布大约1700米宽。
数词+表示单位的名词+形容词(长/宽/高/深/重)在英语中表示长度、宽度、高度、深度、重量。
9. loud /la?d/ adj.(声音)响亮的
eg:I can't hear what you said. Please speak in a loud voice.
我听不见你说了什么,请大声说。
考向一:作形容词,在句中作定语或表语。指音量比平常大得多,暗示过分强烈和突出。
eg:I heard a loud shout outside.
我听见外面有人大叫一声。
考向二:loud,loudly,aloud这三个词都可作副词,但用法却不同。
loud 强调声音响亮,常与动词speak,talk,say,laugh等连用。
loudly 有时可与loud通用,但含有“喧闹”的意味。
aloud 强调为使人能听见而发声。
10. in one's opinion 按某人的观点,据某人看来
eg: Who, in your opinion, is the best football player in the world today?
在你看来,谁是当今世界上最好的足球运动员?
in one's opinion中的one's可以用不同的形容词性物主代词,也可以用名词的所有格代替,如:Jane's, Mum's, my teacher's等。
eg:In Mary's opinion, Jim is a lazy boy.
在玛丽看来,吉姆是个懒男孩。
11. millions of 数以百万计的
eg:Millions of people visit the Great Wall every year.
每年有数百万人游览长城。
million与具体数字连用时,用单数形式,后面不加of;若与of 连用表示约数时,则需用复数形式,且不可与数词连用。
类似的词还有hundred,thousand,billion等。

On 26 February, I got an email from my friend David, asking me to go to Tanzania to train their software engineers. The company is located in Dares Salam, a beautiful coastal city to the west of the Indian Ocean. I stayed for about two weeks in that city last time I was there. During my stay there, David took me to the nearby beach and we had a wonderful walk along the coast which had left a deep impression on me. I was impressed by the ocean water and the deep blue sky.
After more than 19 hours of air travel, I was finally here at Dares Salaam Airport. The temperature here was high as usual- over 30 degrees. I felt short of breath because of the unbearable heat in this tiny hall. When I finally got my turn, I handed my passport to the officer in front of me, He had a close look at my passport.
