通过表格可以看出:be动词的形式随主语的变化而变化,具体如下:
1.主语是第一人称单数I(我)时,be动词用am, I am可缩写为I'm。例如:
I am/I'm a girl. 我是一个女孩。
2.主语是第三人称单数、可数名词单数或不可数名词时,be动词用is。he is, she is, it is和that is可分别缩写为he's, she's, it's 和that's,this is不可以缩写。例如:
He is/He's my teacher. 他是我的老师。
Her name is/Her name's Jenny. 她的名字是詹妮。
注意:(1)be动词还可与其他词缩写,例如:what is=what's, there is=there's等。be动词也可与not缩写,例如:is not=isn't, are not=aren't。 但am与not 不能缩写。
(2)句中有be动词时,变否定句时,在be动词后加not;变一般疑问句时,把be动词提到主语之前。例如:
I am not in Class One. 我不在一班。

3.主语是you(we, they, she and I, these等)或可数名词复数(seven coats, many pencils等)时,be动词用are。例如:
