Aaron Fotheringham has been an amazing person with backflips (后空翻) and other skateboarding tricks throughout his teens. And his famous backflip has won worldwide notice in the form of Record. Why did his particular backflip earn such a reputation? Aaron was the first person to successfully perform a backflip in a wheelchair.
??? Aaron was born ill. He has been in a wheelchair since the age of 8. Since then, he has even developed a new extreme sport in which wheelchair-bound athletes use their chairs like skateboards or bikes to do tricks. Now Aaron’s friends call him "Wheelz", and he says it’s huge praise.
Though Aaron makes his stunts (特技表演) look easy, doing tricks in a wheelchair is very different from using a skateboard or bike. It’s a completely different skill set.
If a skateboarder goes into a backflip like Aarons and doesn’t start out with enough rotation (旋转), he or she can bend his or her body to speed up. This allows a skateboarder to make complete rotation in time for a successful landing. But Aaron can’t bend his body any more than it is already.
That means Aaron has to have everything perfect before going into a backflip. He needs to launch himself to just the right height. If he doesn’t, he could fall on the ground completely. "My rotation is so quick that I don’t have much time to think," says Aaron.
? Aaron’s stunts take a lot of practice. He tries to make it to the skate park every day to work on his backflip and try out new tricks. Even though he’s an excellent athlete, Aaron doesn’t always land his stunts perfectly. But Aaron says he doesn’t let bad landings stop him. He gets right back up and goes for his backflip again.
What do we know about Aaron? A. He can do backflips as a disabled person. B. He is an excellent skating athlete. C. He has had to sit in a wheelchair since birth. D. He has developed a new game by using chairs.
Being called "Wheelz", Aaron felt ?????????????? ?. A. disappointed B. happy C. angry D. ashamed
What is the most important thing for Aaron to perform a backflip? A. Starting out with enough rotation. B. Bending the body to speed up. C. Reaching a suitable height. D. Having enough time to think.
What would be the best title for this text? A. A Disabled Teen Competes in Adventure Games B. A Teen Performs Excellent Stunts C. A Disabled Teen Wins Respect from Others D. A Teen Performs a Backflip in a Wheelchair

Many years ago, when we were a young couple with two small children, aged 2 and 4, we were practically impecunious. My in-laws lived from hand to mouth, so we didn't expect any help from them. My parents lived a great distance away, and I was too ashamed to let them know about our situation.
My husband was trying to earn a living with an old pick-up truck, carrying groceries for local shopkeepers, but it was constantly breaking down. It took almost all the money we had to have it fixed. The truck was also the only means of transportation for us.
We lived in the countryside, and we always used the back door because the driveway led to it. One winter evening, I stepped outside to take a bag of trash to the barrel and almost tripped over something. It was nearly dark, and I had to bend down to see what it was. I could hardly believe my eyes. There sat a large basket filled with food.
It was heavy, so I called to my husband to carry into the house. Once inside, we discovered two loaves of bread, some butter, several cans of vegetables, a can of orange sauce, and a large turkey. There was so much that I can't remember it all, but it was everything we needed to fix a wonderful dinner—everything except potatoes.
A little while later I remembered that I hadn't taken the trash to the barrel. By now it was dark, so I had to turn on the yard light —and that's when I spotted a small bag of potatoes sitting on the porch.
That dinner was the best I can remember.
We weren't able to thank our donators, though, because we never found out who had been so generous in helping a struggling young family. Whoever it was, we are forever grateful.
Which of the following can replace the underlined word "impecunious" in Paragraph
Generous. B. Harmonious. C. Penniless. D. Stubborn.
29. How did the author's husband support the family? A. By starting a garage. B. By selling food door to door. C. By delivering goods. D. By working as a shop assistant. 30. How did the author feel when she saw the basket? A. She was annoyed. B. She was astonished. C. She was terrified. D. She felt a sense of relief. 31.What may be the best title for the text? A. A helping hand in time B. A struggling young couple C. A tale of potatoes D. A reward from a stranger

Vinegar(醋) is great. It makes salad, fries and dumplings taste better, and you can even clean your windows with it. And now, according to scientists,it may even help the planet’s population survive climate change.
Researchers from the RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS) in Japan have found that growing plants in vinegar makes them more resistant to droughts. This could mean that in the future, worries about climate change affecting the world’s supply of food will be much lower.
? The discovery was made after the researchers studied the Arabidopsis,a plant known for its ability to survive in dry weather. It was found that when the plant was placed in drought-like conditions,it produced a chemical called acetate(醋酸盐)—the main component of vinegar.
After discovering this, the scientists experimented further by adding acetate to the soil of other plants, before they stopped giving them water completely. After leaving the plants for 14 days, they found that the ones treated with acetate had survived, while the untreated plants had dried up and died. It’s hoped that this simple method of survival could soon be used to help farmers in dry countries keep their crops alive.
Jong Myong Kim,co-author of the study, tells Popular Science magazine that he’s already been in touch with people all over the world who are interested in trying this simple and cost-effective method out for themselves from flower growing companies to amateur gardeners. Although at this point keeping thirsty plants alive isn’t as easy as just pouring vinegar over them,Kim says he and his team are working on making the process as simple as possible. “Now we are trying to cooperate with some farmers, and also some companies,to make a method to apply this system,” he says.
And for those of us who always forget to ask our neighbors to water our plants when we go away, hopefully this means the end of returning home from a trip to find our favorite flowers have died.
What is mentioned as a feature of the Arabidopsis? A. It produces acetate in wet conditions. B. It is mainly composed of acetate. C. It can survive in nowhere but desert. D. It can be tolerant of drought.
The scientists experimented further by adding acetate to the soil of other plants to _______. A. find a simple way of keeping the crops of farmers alive B. add acetate to the soil of other plants to stop watering C. check the effectiveness of the acetate to resist drought D. treat the dried-up plants by adding acetate to them
What is the author’s attitude to the discovery? A. Objective. B. Unsupportive. C. Indifferent. D. Optimistic.
What may be the best title for the text? A.Vinegar May End Hunger B.Vinegar Keeps Plants Living Forever C. How to Survive Climate Change D. Plants Need Water

??? In some way, playing computer games can feel relaxed. But it's not good to be addicted to it. First, it will cause you to be near-sighted. Second, it may cost you a lot of money. What's more, it will have a bad effect on your study, for you spend most time on playing computer games.so you'd better get rid of your bad habit and there are ways to help you. When you feel like playing computer games, try doing something else. Moreover, taking up a new hobby is a nice idea. Hope you will give it up soon.

It was found that when the plant was placed in droughtlike conditions,it produced a chemical called acetate(醋酸盐)—the main component of vinegar.”可知选D。 33.推理判断题。根据第四段内容可知,进一步实验的目的是为了检验把醋酸盐添加到植物的土壤中能增加植物耐旱能力的有效性。 34.观点态度题。根据最后一段中的“hopefully this means the end of returning home from a trip to find our favorite flowers have died”可知,作者对这个发现持乐观态度。 35.标题归纳题。根据全文内容,尤其是第二段最后一句中的“worries about climate change affecting the world’s supply of food will be much lower”及第四段中的“It’s hoped that this simple method of survival could soon be used to help farmers in dry countries keep their crops alive.”
be ready to do sth. 60.D? so+形容词+that...如此……以至于……。

W: No problem. But why do you need receipts?
M: If I don't get receipts, my boss won't pay me back for them.
Text 5
M: I'm going to the supermarket. Shall I get some more of those round biscuits with cream?
W: I'd prefer chocolate ones.
M: The square ones, you mean?
W: That's right.
Text 6
W: ⑥Did you get the injury playing football, Jim?
M: ⑥Yes. One of the boys kicked my foot instead of the ball.
W: The best thing for you to do is rest your foot for 48 hours.
M: When can I go back to school?
W: You can go back in 4 days, but ⑦you'll need to avoid sports for a month.

W: I've got a new office…
M: That's great! Congratulations.
W: I'll need a bookshelf and some cups. Are there any cups in your office?
M: I think there are four cups in my office.
W: And do you have any furniture in your office?
M: Oh yes, I've got a sofa and two comfortable armchairs.
W: Are there any tables in your office?
M: Yes, ⑨I've got a table in front of the sofa.
W: Is there a computer in your office?
M: Yes, I keep a laptop on my desk next to the phone.
W: Thanks a lot for your help, Jim. This gives me a good idea of how to arrange my office.
M: My pleasure. Good luck with your decorating!

W: Hello, Simon. Where have you hidden?
M: Hi, Janet, I'm home.
W: Why? I didn't notice you were not here until the teacher called your name but nobody replied just now.
M: I was about to call the teacher.
W: I heard that you fell when climbing the mountain last weekend.
M: Yes, I did. I nearly hurt my leg,but luckily there was nothing serious. What made me lie in bed was my fever after that. The temperature was much lower on the mountain.
W: Oh, have you gone to see the doctor?
M: Without the doctor's permission, how dare I stay at home during school hours? I can take two days' leave.
W: Please take care of yourself and I can help you with the leave.
M: It's very kind of you, Janet.
W: My pleasure. I'll hang up. Bye.
M: OK, I'll take my pills. Bye.
Text 9
M: I can't believe I just got a parking ticket! I just parked in the regular parking lot next to the subway station.
W: Don't you have to pay to park there?
M: Yeah, and I did. I paid $5. The guy there said I should pay cash and put it in the machine. I got my receipt and put it inside my car. But when I came back, I had a ticket for $30 waiting for me!
W: Oh, that's too bad. Are you going to pay it?
M: No way! Why should I? I paid for my parking. I shouldn't have to pay anything else.
W: Well, what are you going to do?
M: I called the city's transportation office, and they said that I had to fill something out on their website. They'll send me a letter in the mail to let me know about their decision.
W: How long will that take?
M: Oh, they said between a week and a month. But at least I don't have to pay anything until I find out.
Text 10
W: Hello, this is the tennis club reception area. Since you've registered your name as a club member before, you don't have to register when you arrive.
You can bring 3 guests at one time. And you must be able to present your membership card if a club official asks to see it. Well, here are the changing rooms with showers and lockers for your clothes and things. Obviously, you don't have to leave your clothes in the lockers. Yet we strongly advise you to. It's much safer. First, you should pay 20 pence for the locker. But you get the coin back when you take your things out. And the tennis courts are round here to the left. You can book the courts for thirty minutes or an hour. However, you can carry on playing until the next players arrive. We have a club bar which serves food and drink behind the reception. The club bar is open from 9:00 am until 11:00 pm. But all players must leave the courts by 10:00 pm. We hope you have a good time here.
