Ⅱ. Teaching objectives
1. Knowledge objective
To know the three groups of food: body-building food, energy-giving food and protective food.
To know what the balanced diet is.
2. Learning objectives of the strategy
To understand the general idea of the passage through skimming
To get a better understanding through group work.
3. Emotional objectives
To be aware of the importance of eating healthily.
To have a better relationship with the members through group work and perform better through competition.
Ⅲ. Important points and difficult points
1. To help students know what a balanced diet is and identify food which are better for them.
2. To improve the ability of understanding the general idea, the structure and the detailed information of a text.
Ⅳ. Analysis of students
The students of Grade 1 have studied in high school for half a year. They have got certain reading ability, which still needs well improving. Their knowledge of healthy eating is limited, and they need to think about the issues involved in eating a balanced diet and identify food which are better for them.
Ⅴ. Teaching methods
1. Task-based method to make students interested in what they will learn.
2. Self study and discussion method to make students discover and share the discovery.

I. Warming up
The three groups of food.
To let three students get prepared before class and show their ppt.
Three students are asked to do a research on groups of food before class and make a ppt. In this section, they are supposed to show the class their work. Their motivation is inspired and the other students are interested in learning with them.
Ⅱ. Fast reading
1. The characters
2. The main idea
3. The structure
Find the main idea by skimming and have a discussion to make it clear how to divide the text into three parts..
This section is designed to train students’ fast reading skills. The competition among groups can inspire students’ interest.
Ⅲ. Detailed reading
Specific questions in the three parts of the passage.
Find the detailed information by careful reading. The group members will get 1 point by answering each question correctly
The questions chosen are closely related to the understanding of the text, especially the two extremes of food menu.
Ⅳ. Summary
A summary with 12 blanks for the students to fill in.
Have a discussion in groups of four. The students on the hot seat will be asked to fill in three blanks and each blank is 1 point.
This section helps the students to get a complete understanding of the text. Hot seats make it sure that every student is engaged in the discussion.
V. Discussion
What is a balanced diet? How to eat healthily?
Have a discussion and find a reporter to make a report on this topic. The report is 1 to 3 points.
The discussion encourages the student to express their thoughts and be more aware of the importance of a healthy diet.
VI. Show time
A report of healthy eating and a balanced diet.
A student shows his report of healthy eating.
A student is asked to do a careful research before class and show the class what he knows. His understanding is improved and the whole class can learn from him.
VII. Homework
An article about the understanding of healthy eating
Homework.
The article is about what they’ve learned in the class.
Ⅶ. Teaching reflection
After class, the students can understand the main idea and the detailed
information of the passage better, and meanwhile, they know about the two
extremes of food and avoid them by learning the story. The discussion
encourages them to work in a team and the show time allow them to practice speaking English in class.
