Liverpool, my hometown, is a special city. It is so unique that in 2004 it became a World Heritage(遗产) Site.
I recently returned to my home city and my first stop was at a museum on the River Mersey. Blanketed in mist(薄雾), Victorian architecture rose from the banks of the river, responded to the sounds of seabirds, and appeared unbelievably charming. When I headed toward the centre, I found myself surrounded by buildings that mirror the best palaces of Europe. It is not hard to imagine why, on first seeing the city, most visitors would be overpowered by the beauty of the noble buildings, which are solid signs of Liverpool’s history.
As if to stress its cultural role, Liverpool has more museums and galleries than most cities in Britain. At Walker Art Gallery, I was told that it has the best collections of Victorian paintings in the world, and is the home of modern art in the north of England. However, culture is more than galleries. Liverpool offers many music events. As Britain’s No.1 music city, it has the biggest city music festival in Europe, and its musicians are famous all over the world. Liverpool is also well-known for its football and other sports events. Every year, the Mersey River Festival attracts thousands of visitors, making the city a place of wonder.
As you would expect from such a city, there are restaurants serving food from around the world. When my trip was about to complete, I chose to rest my legs in Liverpool’s famous Philharmonic pub(酒馆). It is a monument to perfection, and a heritage attraction itself.
Being a World Heritage Site, my home city is certainly a place of “outstanding universal value”. It is a treasure house with plenty of secrets for the world to explore.
26.Visitors who see the city for the first time would be deeply impressed by .
A.its charming banks
B.its famous museums
C.its wonderful palaces
D.its attractive buildings
27.Liverpool has an important cultural role because .
A.it has the best collections of Victorian paintings
B.it has museums, galleries, music festival and sports events
C.the Mersey River festival attracts thousands of visitors

A.Liverpool is a well-known city for its restaurants
B.Liverpool is an impressive place full of attractions
C.a pub is a wonderful place for visitors to relax themselves
D.a pub is a perfect choice for visitors to complete their journey
29.The third paragraph is developed mainly by .
A.providing different examples
B.following the order of space

D.analyzing causes
Should schools allow Halloween celebrations?
Halloween is one of the most celebrated holidays in the United States. ____30____ Many schools also celebrate the holiday by having kids dress up in costumes (服装), take part in costume shows, and join in a variety of activities relating to Halloween. On October 31, the halls of schools across the country will be filled with princes, princesses, and superheroes. In addition to costumes, school Halloween celebrations often include classroom parties and trick-or-treating.
____31____ They also say that dressing up in costumes allows kids to express themselves and show off their creativity.
____32____ Officials at many of those schools say the celebrations are too time-consuming (费时的) and take away class time. They also point out that kids who can't afford costumes or who don't celebrate Halloween for cultural reasons feel left out. For example, Seth Boyden Elementary School in Maplewood, New Jersey, canceled its Halloween celebration last year. Officials at the school said that in the past, many students stayed home on that day.
____33____ Bree Picower, a Professor of Early and Elementary Education at Montclair State, said, “Maplewood is a wonderful example of a school being responsive to society. Many schools plan to learn from it. Schools are places where students should feel included.”
Parents in Maplewood had different opinions of this policy. Some said that the new no-Halloween policy was a welcome change. ____34____
A.It brings a lot of safety problems.
B.Experts say Maplewood is not alone.
C.Many people dislike these costumes.
D.Each year there're millions of Americans celebrating the holiday.
E.But more and more schools have canceled Halloween celebrations in recent years.
F.Many teachers, parents, and students see these celebrations as a fun break from the school day.
G.And others said that it was unfair that their children are now not allowed to celebrate Halloween in school.

2.【答案】when

Unit2 The United Kingdom
A
London—A morning's train rides away, across the Channel. English kids talk about the Liver-pool's soccer team in a Paris pub.
Some Parisians have even started to go to work in London.
In the 19th century, Charles Dickens compared the two great rival cities, London and Paris, in A Tale of Two Cities. These days, it might be A Tale of One City.
Parisians are these days likely to smile in sympathy at a visitor's broken French and respond in polite English.
As jobs grew lacking at home over recent years, perhaps 250,000 Frenchmen moved across the Channel. With an undersea tunnel, they could travel between cities in three hours. The European Union freed them from immigration and customs.
Paris, rich in beauty, is more attractive, but London feels more full of life, and more fun until the pubs shut down.
“For me, the difference is that London is real, alive,” said Trevor Wheeler, a banker.
Chantal Jaouen, a professional designer, agrees, “I am French, but I'll stay in London,” she said.
There is, of course, the other view, Julie Lenoux is a student who moved to London two years ago. “I think people laugh more in Paris,” she said.
In fact, London and Paris, with their obvious new similarities, are beyond the old descriptions. As the European Union gradually loosened controls, Londoners flocked into Paris to shop, eat and buy property.
“Both cities have changed beyond recognition,” said Larry Collins, a writer and sometimes a Londoner.
Like most people who know both well, he finds the two now fit together comfortably.
“I first fell in love with Paris in the 1950s, and it is still a wonderful place,” Collins said.
“But if I had to choose, it would be London. Things are so much more ordered, and life is better, but certainly not cheaper.”
In fancy parts of London, rents can be twice those on Avenue Foch in Paris.
Deciding between London and Paris requires a lifestyle choice.
Like Daphne Benoit, a French journalism student with perfect English, many young people are happy to be close enough so they don't have to choose.
“I love Paris, my little neighborhood, the way I can walk around a center, but life is so structured,” she said. “In London, you can be who you want. No one cares.”

Government statistics recently showed that in the UK, more than 3,000 people a year experience electric shocks in their homes. A smaller number of people are killed after contacts with power lines outside the home. Electric shocks can cause a person's heart or breathing to stop, can also cause burns and are potentially fatal. It is essential for people to learn basic first aid techniques to deal with such emergencies.
What to do? If you are the first person to reach someone who has had an electric shock, don't touch him! If he is still holding the appliance (家用电器) that has given him a shock, unplug it or turn off the power at its source. Under no circumstances will you try to move the appliance with your hands!
If you can't turn off the power, use a piece of wood, like a broom handle or a chair, to separate the victim from the appliance or the power source. You may even be able to do this with a folded newspaper.
The victim must remain lying down. If he is unconscious, the victim should be placed on his side. But he should not be moved if there is a possibility of neck or spine injuries unless it is absolutely necessary. It is essential to maintain the victim's body heat, so make sure you cover him or her with a blanket before you do anything else. If the victim is not breathing, apply mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (复苏). Keep the victim's head low until professional help arrives. If the electric shock has been caused by an external power line, the dangers to the victim and to anybody providing first aid are much greater.
5.What kind of passage is it?
A.An advertisement.
B.A horror story.
C.A news report.
D.First aid emergency advice.
6.The underlined sentence “Under no circumstances will you try to move the appliance with your hands!” implies that ________.

D.it is unnecessary to unplug the appliance with your hands
7.When a person has got an electric shock, you should ________.
A.separate the victim from the appliance and let him sit up
B.keep the victim warm and help him breathe again
C.move the victim onto his side if he has got neck injuries
D.keep the victim's head high until professional help arrives
8.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Tips on providing first aid to electric shock victims.
B.Tips on providing first aid to move the appliance.
C.Tips on providing first aid to breath.
D.Tips on providing first aid to victims.

A
【答案】1-4 BABA
Londoners flocked into Paris to shop, eat and buy property”以及倒数第五段“But if I had to choose, it ... but certainly not cheaper.”
根据文章第二段中的“If he is still holding the appliance (家用电器) that has given him a shock, unplug it or turn off the power at its source.”和第三段中的“If you can't turn off the power, use a piece of wood ...”
