I was at the funeral of my mother. She finally had lost her long battle with cancer. I heard a door open and shut at the back of the church. Quick footsteps hurried along the floor. A young man looked around briefly and then sat next to me. He folded his hands and placed them on his lap. His eyes were filled with tears. He began to sniffle.
“I’m late,” he explained, though no explanation was necessary.
After several eulogies (悼词), he asked, “Why do they keep calling Mary by the name of Margaret?”
“Because, that was her name, Margaret. Never Mary, no one called her Mary.” I whispered.
I wondered why this person couldn’t have sat on the other side of the church. Who was this stranger anyway?
“Isn’t this the Lutheran Church?”
“No, the Lutheran Church is across the street.”
“Oh.”
“I believe you’re at the wrong funeral, Sir.”
The seriousness of the occasion mixed with the realization of the man’s mistake burst inside me and came out as laughter. I cupped my hands over my face, hoping it would not be noticed. Sharp looks from others only made the situation seem funnier. He was laughing too, as he glanced around, deciding it was too late to leave.
“I do believe we’ll be the talk of the town,” he smiled.
His name was Rick and, since he had missed his aunt’s funeral, he asked me out for a cup of coffee. That afternoon began a lifelong journey for me with this man who attended the wrong funeral, but was in the right place. A year after our meeting, we were married at a country church. This time we both arrived at the same church, right on time.

Many languages are disappearing and languages such as English,Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking over.Yet Maori promises to have a rosy future given that New Zealanders are showing great enthusiasm for speaking this local language.
A“Maori renaissance(复兴)”blossomed in the 1970s as language activists championed their cause and Maori fought for greater political power. But until 2013,just 3.7 percent of New Zealanders spoke the language fluently, and many predicted it would soon die out.Now New Zealand’s government is erasing prejudice and struggling to increase the percent of population who can speak basic Maori by 2040 to 20.Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said last month that her newborn daughter would learn both Maori and English.“It's an official language,so why should we dismiss its universal availability and its much more common use?”said Ms.Ardern, adding that she also planned to study the language.Grassroots are also spreading it by word of mouth Answering the phone with the greeting“kia ora”(hello)or ending an email with“nga mihi’(thanks)has become a fashion.Maori is gradually becoming part of New Zealand’s mainstream popular culture.
Ajit Kumar Samah,a famous professor in Aukland University, published a book—Contagious:why Maori catches on,where he introduces readers to the popularity of Maori and expresses his great anxiety for the lack of teachers who have the competence to teach the Maori language.
People are not on the same wavelength, however.Suggestions on officially replacing English-language place names with traditional Maori ones have been rejected. So when a police car was designed using Maori,it was condemned by some as ridiculous because of the higher Maori rates of arrest and imprisonment.
28.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By providing useful data. B.By making a comparison.
C.By applying famous sayings. D.By offering good tips.
29.What do we learn from the second paragraph?
A.The Maori language threatens the rise of English.
B.There’11 be 20%fluent Maori speakers by 2040.
C.Ardern is openly supportive of learning Maori.
D.People withdraw from the act of speaking Maori.
30.What can we know about Ajit Kumar Samah?
A.He popularizes the use of Maori.
B.He sees Maori as an unofficial language.
C.He rejects the replacement of English with Maori.
D.He advocates training competent Maori teachers.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Brought-to-life Maori Language B.To Speak or Not to Speak Maori
C.How to Have Great Fluency in Maori D.The Evolution of the Maori Language

??? Use "the best medicine" to treat the blues with a sense of humor, which is closely tied to laughter. Laughter is infectious. Have you ever heard a big laugh of a young child and been able to keep yourself from smiling? When laughter is shared between people, it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness. Smiling is the beginning of laughter and a smile is also just as infectious as laughter is.? You can experience something by smiling at everyone around you, and you will feel happier just by sharing a smile, even with a stranger.

However, what we often forget is that it is just as important for old people to make play be part of their life as it’s for children. Physical play is important for the old and it certainly helps prevent illness. While the studies are still in the early stages, the studies that have been done have shown that physical play certainly plays a part in preventing cognitive(认知的) falling.
??? Anyway, adding humor, laughter, and play to our life will influence us mentally, physically and socially and bring us many advantages. So we should make full use of humor, laughter and play to make our life more active, interesting and happier.???? 32.What does the underlined word "infectious" in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Playing an important role. B.Keeping people in high spirits. C.Quickly influencing other people. D.Preventing illness from spreading. 33.What can laughter increase according to the author? B.They should play like children. C.They should prevent cognitive falling. D.They should take part in physical play. 35Which of the following would be the best title for the text? M: So what’s the problem?
W: (13)(14)She called madly. She said she could have gotten the repair done with less money. Now she’s threatening to expel (驱逐) us for not paying the full rent.
M: Hold on, Emma. It does sound pretty serious. But I’m sure you can all sit down and work this out.
W: (15)Well, you’re studying at the law school, so I wonder if you would mind coming with Julia and me when we go to talk to Ms. Hansen. (16)We’re supposed to meet her at 7:00 tomorrow night.
M: Sure, I haven’t studied a lot about contracts yet, but I’d be glad to help you straighten things out. I’ll stop by around 6:30.
W: That’s great. Thanks, Sam.

W: (17) Now it is time to welcome all the newcomers to the International School. You are all here to improve your business English skills. This weekend, which is your first in London, we’ll offer to help you adapt to your new surroundings in an unusual and exciting way. So, starting Friday, in the morning we thought you’d want to visit the city. We know that some of you have already visited a few museums in the neighborhood, so we’ve organized a visit for those of you who are interested. (18) At 3:00 pm, we’ve planned games that’ll help you get to know your fellow newcomers. You’ll all be rather tired after dinner so we thought you might like to see a film at 7:00 pm, which is free to all International School students. (19) On Saturday, we have organized a day trip to visit the historical city of Bath. We’ll leave at 10:00 am on a bus that we’ve rented for the day. Everything will be provided for you, including lunch. (20) On Sunday, we will leave it up to you how you spend the day, both the morning and the afternoon. OK, that’s all for now. Thank you.
