Unit 3 Reading Journey Down the Mekong
一、Teaching aims and demands
1.Knowledge and ability aims:
To get students to know how to prepare for a trip and some geographical knowledge about the Mekong River; Guide students to grasp the usage of some important words and phrases such as persuade, be fond of, and so on.
2.Process and method aims:
To develop students’ reading skills like skimming, scanning and concluding;
Guide them to use these reading skills to collect and deal with information.
Meanwhile encourage them to express their own travel plans using the
language they have learned in the class and cultivate their ability to
cooperate with others.
3.Moral aims:
To learn to enjoy the fun of traveling and appreciate the beautiful sceneries in China and the whole world, thus making them love our country, love the world and love nature. Meanwhile raise their awareness of protecting our environment.
二、Teaching key &difficult points
Key points:
The key points are how to get students to master the important words and expressions in the unit and how to help students to express themselves using what they have learned in this passage.
Difficult points:
The difficult points are how to get students to understand the text better and master the reading skills such as skimming, scanning and so on.
三、 Teaching procedure
1. Leading in (3’)
Show a picture about some stuff that you will prepare for a new trip.
Have a quiz about the picture. Aim: to attract the students’ attention.
(Aim: to arouse their interest and make them expect to learn new information)
2. Careful-listening (10’)
Listen the passage and match the main idea with the correct paragraph. And then learn one important word.
(Aim: To develop the Ss’ listening skill, that is, how to read a word or how to get the key words during the listening, and find the main idea of each paragraph at the same time.)

Difficult points:
3. Reading practice (15’)
Reading carefully ,fill in blanks and get much detailed information about the Mekong River.(Aim: To develop the Ss’ reading kill--- grasp key words)
4. Retelling Encourage (10’)
student discuss in group, and choose one to retell the passage and finish the exercise , referring to the reading passage.
(Aim: not only help the students have a good command of the main idea, but also pay attention to some usage of key words and expressions.)

5. Homework (2’) (Aim: To consolidate what they have learnt.)
用persuade 造两个句子。要求:其中一个句子是否定形式
