三、阅读理解:

Last summer holiday, I volunteered to work at a vets(兽医诊所). There I saw a lot of dogs.
Minnie was the funniest-looking dog I’d ever seen. Short thin curly(卷的) hair covered her fat body. Her eyes always seemed surprised. And her tail looked like a rat’s tail.
She was brought to the vet because her owners didn’t want her any more. I thought Minnie had a sweet personality, though. No one should judge(评判) her by her looks, I thought. I advertised Minnie in the local paper: Funny-looking dog, well-behaved, need a loving family.
When a boy called, I warned him that Minnie was strange-looking. The boy on the phone told me that his grandfather’s sixteen-year-old dog had just died. They wanted Minnie no matter what. I gave Minnie a good bath. Then we waited for them to arrive. At last, an old car pulled up in front of the vet’s. Two kids ran to the door. They picked Minnie up and rushed her out to their grandfather, who was waiting in the car. I hurried behind them to see his reaction to Minnie. Inside the car, the grandfather held Minnie in his arms and stroked her soft hair. She licked (舔) his face. Her tail shook around so quickly that it looked like it might fly off her body.
“She’s perfect!” the old man said happily.
I was thankful that Minnie had found a good home.
Suddenly, I saw that the grandfather’s eyes were a milky white colour—he was blind.
( )1. Why did the writer advertise Minnie in the local paper?

From the early days of history people needed to have ways of telling the time, but machines for telling the time were not invented until the thirteenth century. These first clocks were very big. They had no faces or hands but they did have a bell .It rang every hour.
In the seventeenth century, people began to use clocks with faces and hands and to have small clocks to carry with them.
For a long time after that, men and women had pocket watches. These were usually tied to a button on the person’s clothes.
It is strange that watches were not used until about 1914. The man who made the first popular watch was walking in a park one day. There he saw a woman with a pocket watch tied to her wrist(手腕). She was feeding her baby and so she needed to have both hands free to hold the child.
Now nearly everybody wears a watch all the time. If you have a “waterproof” watch, you don’t even have to take it off when you go swimming. About 80 million watches are made every year.

Why are you study habits different from those of your friends? Why do you seem to learn faster in some classes while more slowly in others? One reason you may not know is that people have different types. Scientists say there are three different learning types: Visual(视觉型),Auditory(听觉型),and Kinesthetic (动觉型)。
Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs(图表),and videos, you are probably a visual learner. You’re not good at copying down what the teacher says in class. Never mind. You can draw graphs or pictures instead, if you find that works better for you.
Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to easily remember things by hearing them, then you are probably an auditory learner. You must listen carefully while the teacher is speaking because it’s the easiest way foy you to learn . Sometimes you may find that taking notes tops you from listening carefully. After class, you can write down what you remember or borrow your friend’s notes to copy.
Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands, you are probably a kinesthetic learner. Taking notes by writing can make you pay close attention to information as you receive it. Of course, you can learn best by making full use of labs or other class activities.
Hope you learn better by knowing what your personal learning type is.
