Is there an important exam right around the corner? You might be starting to fear(恐惧; 害怕), thinking that there’s no way for you to get a good grade because of the little time left to study. This is something all students may worry about. But you should accept the fact that you have to take the exam no matter how much you want to avoid it.
Thankfully, there are several ways to help you get at least a passing grade. You may have a try.
◆Get yourself together
This might sounds like silly advice, but it’s actually the most important. When you fear, you may lose control over your thoughts and actions. Even if you try to study, perhaps you won’t get anything in your head.
◆Enjoy enough sleep
It’s unbelievable many students have little sleep each night. That’s not something to be proud of, especially if you’re sleeping so little and still failing to do all the things. Sleep isn’t for the weak, but for the wise. Your brain needs enough rest. After a good night’s sleep, you’ll perform much better in the morning.
◆Don’t fear
Once the test paper is in front of you, don’t be afraid. Take a deep breath and start the exam with confidence (信心). Just like when you were reviewing, put away the problems you’re having difficulty in and come back to them later. If you have time left, go over everything to make sure you haven’t made any careless mistakes.
( )41. In the writer’s opinion, whenever there’s an important exam, ______.
A. students might experience a period of fear
B. students will have little time to worry
C. students should try everything possible to avoid it
D. students have to ask teachers for more help
( )42. The writer describes “get yourself together” as silly advice because ______.
A. it won’t influence your thoughts
B. it is one of the common senses
C. it is not the most important suggestion
D. it won’t help you get anything in your head
( )43. Enough sleep before an important exam is ______.
A. the price of the weak B. not something to be proud of
C. not necessary for the wise D. a way to avoid failing in the exam
( )44. When you meet with difficult problems in the exam, you can ______.
A. give them up and take a deep breath
B. think hard and review them once again
C. put them away first and come back later
D. just trust yourself and look through the paper
( )45. According to the passage, you may get at least the passing grade if ______.
A. you fear nothing B. you follow the writer’s advice
C. the problems are not difficult D. the preparation time lasts longer
 B
Young people and older people don’t always agree. They sometimes have different ideas about living, working and playing. But in one special programme in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly way.
Each summer 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and enjoyment in work. Some teenagers work in the woods or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and build houses. The adults teach them these skills.
There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours some of the teenagers learn photo-taking or painting. Others sit around and talk or sing. Each teenager chooses his own way to spend his free time.
When people live together, rules are necessary. In this programme the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. If someone breaks a rule, the problem goes before the whole group. They talk about it and ask, “Why did it happen? What should we do about it? ”
One of the teenagers has this to say about his experience, “You stop thinking only about yourself, You learn to think about the group. ”

When you meet problems, whom will you ask for help? Your parents, your teachers or your friends? You’d better tell others your bad feelings, and not face all the difficulties yourself. Remember that there is always someone to help you. Be kind to yourself and ask for help.
Name your feelings. For example, you may say“I am so angry!” loudly when you feel angry. You can also do exercise, listen to music, write a diary, play with a pet, go for a walk or do whatever helps you change to a better feeling.
Be calm. It’s time for you to get down to business. You need to understand what the problem is, with the help of others. You must deal with the problem.
If you work on it, you will find good ways to deal with it and you will become stronger after this experience. Unhappiness won’t stay for a long time, so don’t think problems will catch you all the time. Instead, you should always see the bright side.
When you are sad, you need to find ways to deal with your sadness, you’ll find your own happiness.
Accept your sadness. It’s not a bad thing to feel sad. Try to face what is making you feel sad. Don’t pretend(假装) it isn’t there. And don’t believe it will just go away on its own.
Speak about your sadness. You don’t have to tell everybody everything, but it is nice to talk to friends or family about your feelings. You may not need him or her to say a word; just having someone to listen to you is sometimes enough.
Put your sadness into written words. Write down how you are feeling every day and why you think you are feeling this way. Write down how you deal with your sadness and which ways work.
Take part in activities. Read a good book, listen to music, see a movie, exercise or take a walk outside. These can help you feel relaxed and forget your sadness.
See a doctor. If your sadness starts to interfere with (干扰) everyday life seriously, you should ask your doctor for help.

Dear Li Hua,
How are you?
I had a very good time with you and your family in Beijing last month. It impressed(留下深刻印象) me a lot that many students went to school by bike. I like cycling, and have a bike which my uncle bought me for my birthday. I want to ride to school too, but my parents don’t agree. I’m 15 years old now, but they keep driving me to school and picking me up every day. These days, I am always angry with them because they just allow me to ride in the park on weekends. Last night, I went out to ride my bike after they fell asleep. It was so cool.
I’m thinking of riding to school in the morning before they get up. Do you think whether it’s a good idea or not?
Yours,
Mike

Dear Sam,
Thanks for your letter. You said you often feel nervous and can’t sleep well before a test. You don’t want to let your parents feel disappointed, so you stay up late every night. Well, if I were you, I’d take a glass of milk before going to bed. It would help you sleep well. And you should take part in some after-class activities in your free time. Try to find ways to relax, for example, listening to music or watching TV. I believe if you work hard, your parents will be glad. I hope my advice can help you.
Yours,
John

. . for?

Dear Mike,
Nice to hear from you. I understand how you feel because I like cycling too, but I don’t think it is good that you ride to school in secret, not telling your parents. In fact, your parents really care about you a lot.
You should talk about it with your parents. After all, you are old enough to go to school by yourself. If your school is not far, why not ask your parents to ride with you to school for a few days so that they won’t be so worried. I’m sure that you will find a way out.
Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
