When Columbus ‘sailed the ocean blue in 1492’ he wasn't looking for America, he was searching for a route from Spain to China; America just got in the way.
The Spanish were after the riches of Asia: silk, dates, spices. Until later adventurers discovered how to sail to the Far East, trade with China depended on the Silk Road. The trade between China and Europe brought huge wealth, so the Spanish had a strong desire to find a new way to the East. Eventually a way appeared; as sea traffic developed from the 17th Century onwards, the overland route diminished.
Now China is seeking to revive(复兴)the Silk Road and is preparing to invest 4 trillion pounds in new roads, rail links, oil pipelines and other basic facilities. It is hoped that goods can be shipped westwards by land far more quickly and economically than by sea.
But the plan is also to attract more tourists. Actually, China does pretty well for tourists already; it's the world's fourth most visited country. Two cities — Beijing and Shanghai—possess the tourism business, with significant interest in destinations such as Xi'an and Chengdu. While Beijing is modern, cities such as Lanzhou and Dunhuang have one foot planted firmly in old China.
Other places featured include Xi'an, the former capital of China, where you can come face to face with the Terracotta Army built to protect China's first emperor in the afterlife. From Lanzhou tour members take the train to Jiayuguan, China's western gateway and a key location on the Silk Road.
There is also a four-day coach journey along the original Silk Route through the Xinjiang region to Kashgar. Along the way, at Kurla, you can visit the ruins of the Iron Fortress.
4.What does the underlined word “diminished” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Discovered. B.Disappeared.
C.Disturbed. D.Displayed.
5.What is the purpose of reviving the Silk Road?

B.To construct new roads and other basic structures.

6.What can we learn about the Silk Road?
A.It is nothing but a trade route.
B.It may destroy some cities' ancient style.
C.It attracts foreign investment of £4 trillion.
D.It promotes the tourism industry of China.
7.What is the best title for the text?
A.The charming of the Silk Road
B.The fun_ction of the Silk Road
C.The origin of the Silk Road
D.The future of the Silk Road

Recently I accepted a challenge to join Naasih, a motivational speaker, on a voyage through India designed to refresh my spirit. After too many hours, Naasih and I arrived in the slum (贫民窟) just as the sun was breaking across the smoggy Delhi sky. It seemed as if the small houses extended for miles, an ocean of tin roofs and laundry lines.
Finally, Naasih stopped and turned to me. “Give me your bag,” he said. I handed it to him. I had promised to follow his directions, and in return, I was hoping to find whatever I thought was missing from my life. “I will meet you back here at sunset,” Naasih said and walked away.
I began to walk through the streets. No one paid too much attention to the tall, hairless man walking among them. My throat was dry, my stomach turning over with hunger. And then I saw a small house and I knocked softly on the door.
A young, skinny man, no older than 25, came to answer it. As I soon found out, the man is named Sankar and he was a Lakers fan. I also learned that he was a recently graduated university student who had left his family to go after a dream of success in the big city. Instead, he had found work in the back of a restaurant.
After lunch, Sankar took me to play basketball with a group of children in a trash-filled field down the road. The sun was beginning to fall as the laughter of the basket games echoed (发出回声) through the slum. I was so caught up in my day with Sankar. I had started the morning in fear and exhaustion, but I was ending the day connected to something much larger.
After the game, Sankar and I walked to Rata Road. There stood Naasih. He said, “You're_shining,_Leon.” I had been knocked entirely out of my comfort zone, and I felt that wild burst of life that had been missing from my own.
1.Why did the author come to Sankar's home?
A.To play a game with him.
B.To respond to Naasih's request.
C.To relieve his hunger and thirst.
D.To learn how disadvantaged people live.
2.What can we learn about Sankar?
A.He didn't live as he dreamed.
B.He found a good job in the city.
C.He studied cooking in university.
D.He had a great talent for basketball.
3.What does Naasih mean by saying “You're shining, Leon” in the last paragraph?
A.Leon is an inspiration to him.
B.Leon has changed his state of mind.
C.Leon is popular among the children.
D.Leon is good at connecting with others.
4.What is the best title of the passage?
A.A Chance to Make Acquaintances
B.The Power of Sports Games
C.The Pleasure from Indian Slums
D.A Voyage of Finding the Self

Many Americans think of driverless cars as a futuristic technology that will revolutionize travel in cities and along state highways. But recent experiments are proving that autonomous vehicles also have the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of Americans underserved by traditional modes of transportation, such as the elderly and disabled, so long as lawmakers make smart policies that pave the way for innovation.
A retirement community in San Jose, Calif., which has been transformed by a small fleet of driverless taxis, shows the potential of self-driving cars to transform people's lives. Built by a tech start-up called Voyage, the modified Ford Fusions are currently limited to a two-mile road, but residents are already having the benefits of these autonomous vehicles, which allow them to participate in social activities they would otherwise be unable to enjoy simply because they could not get to them.
When the trial run finally expands to 15 miles of road, these residents — whose average age is 76 — will also have a convenient and reliable new way to appointments. As these cars continue to serve residents there, it is easy to understand why California is moving to simplify regulations for the industry.
In Michigan, forward-thinking policies have the potential to unlock other hidden benefits of autonomous vehicles, especially for those with physical disabilities. The Michigan Disability Rights Coalition has strongly advocated for the development of this technology, saying that it could give people with disabilities greater opportunities in the workforce and enable them to lead more fulfilling, independent lives.
Many recognize that autonomous vehicles will be the future of transportation, but it is too often overlooked that this future cannot arrive fast enough for millions of Americans who are forced to depend on others for day-to-day travel. The policymakers should follow the lead of places like California and Michigan, and pass rules and regulations to unlock these hidden benefits of driverless cars.
5.What's the attitude of most American people to the future of autonomous vehicles?
A.Curious. B.Doubtful.
C.Indifferent. D.Optimistic.
6.What is the modified Ford Fusion?
A.A kind of autonomous vehicle.
B.A fleet of driverless taxis.
C.A road for driverless cars.
D.A retirement community.
7.What are examples in California and Michigan to prove?
A.Driverless cars' disadvantages.
B.Governments' right decisions.
C.Benefits to the aged and disabled.
D.The regulations are forward-thinking.
8.What does the author attempt to inform us in the last paragraph?
A.The benefits of driverless cars have been fully unlocked.
B.Regulations should go hand in hand with driverless technology.
C.The concept of autonomous vehicles has been widely recognized.
D.The weak groups are often overlooked despite technology advances.

5.What is the purpose of reviving the Silk Road?
A.To rebuild the ruins of the Iron Fortress.
B.To construct new roads and other basic structures.
C.To make transportation westwards faster and cheaper.
D.To draw more inland tourists' attention to the western gateway.

C.It attracts foreign investment of £4 trillion.
D.It promotes the tourism industry of China.

译文:但是,该计划也是为了吸引更多的游客。该题提问的是关于丝绸之路我们可以了解到什么信息。根据关键句可知,复兴丝绸之路也是为了吸引更多的游客,促进中国旅游业的发展。故选D。
