每年农历七月初七这一天是中国的传统节日七夕节。七夕节始于中国汉朝。相传，在每年的这个夜晚，是天上织女与牛郎在鹊桥相会。织女是一个美丽聪明、心灵手巧的仙女，凡间的妇女便在这一天晚上向她乞求智慧和巧艺，也少不了向她求赐美满姻缘。相传农历七月七日夜妇女在庭院向织女星乞求智巧，故称为“乞巧”。其起源于对自然的崇拜及妇女穿针乞巧，后被赋予了牛郎织女的传说使其成为象征爱情的节日。七夕节妇女穿针乞巧、祈祷福禄寿、礼拜七姐、陈列花果、女红等诸多习俗影响至日本、朝鲜半岛、越南等汉字文化圈国家。
