1. Train the ss’ speaking skills.
2. Learn how to write to a penfriend
II. Procedures
Step1
Imagine your group plans to spend eight days in and around Cuzco. Discuss which two tours you will take . First discuss what you like to do when you are on holiday.
Use expressions like:
I like / don’t like doing/ to do …
I prefer to …
I enjoy / love / hate doing…
A sample:
When I’m on holiday, I like to visit the old ruins of ancient Inca City, where I can learn more about Inca culture. I’ll go there with my friends, because I don’t like doing things alone. I prefer to discuss anything with them. I also enjoy buying cheap things as a memery. I hate going home with nothing.
Step2. Discussing
Which tours best suit you.
Use expressions like:
We would /might…
It would be possible to ….
It is impossible to …
… could / would be a perfect place for us .
I don’t think you’d enjoy …
… would probably suit us.
It’s out of question.
A sample:
In my opinion, Tour1 and tour 3 best suit us.Because it is possible to complete the two tours in our holiday. We could go for the beautiful scenery and might know more about the ancient Inca culture. The spanish architecture could be a perfect thing for us to see. I think in 8 days visiting the two tuors is out of question.

Imagine your American penfriend has decided to come to China to study Chinese culture and language at a university near you. Write a letter to him or her giving information about what life will be like.
Information included
1.What he/she will find different in China (include things like food, study, transport, accommodation, etc);
2.How easy or difficult it will be to make friends;
3.The best way to learn Chinese and about Chinese culture;
4.Things you can do to help him/her settle in.
Step4.One possible version:
Dear Tom,
I am excited to hear that you will come to learn Chinese in a university near me.In China, food is quite different from that in your country.We mainly have rice or wheat flour food. The study is from the very Chinese language beginning.We have mainly bikes as our tansportation.In the university It’s easy to make friends because the Chinese are very friendly.In addition, the school has excellent equipment, such as a new gym, a computer room and a large library. Above all, there are many excellent teachers in our school. Classes are interesting, the teachers are kind and knowledgeable and willing to help the students. If you have any problems you can turn to the teachers for help. I hope you will like the university and surely make great progress. Yours, Li Hua
