1. scene [C] n. (戏剧的)一场，场面，现场，景色
The hero died in Act 4, Scene 3.
The scene in the hospital was very moving.
Reporters were soon on the scene after the accident.
He is a painter of street scenes.
【辨析】 scene / view：两个词都可指“风景，景色”。 scene为普通名词，指一眼可以浏览的风景；view常指从远处或高处看到的景色。如：
The boats in the harbor make a beautiful scene.
The view from our house is very beautiful.
【拓展】 scenery n. [U] 风景，景色，风光；scenic adj. 风景优美的；behind the scene 在后台，在幕后，秘密地；on the scene 在现场。
2. permit v. ＆ n.
(1) vt. 许可，准许，允许
Permit me to say a few words.
We do not permit smoking in the office.
(2) vi. (常用于条件句中) 允许，容许
I?蒺ll come after the meeting if time permits.
(3) n. [C] 通行证，许可证，执照
Have you got a driving permit?
【拓展】 permission n. [U] 许可，允许，容许；ask one?蒺s permission 征得某人的同意; without (one?蒺s) permission 未经(某人)允许。
【注意】 permit用作及物动词时，常用于下列结构中：permit doing sth或者permit sb to do sth。 permit的同义词allow及其反义词forbid的用法也是如此。
3. spot vt. ＆ n.
(1) vt. 发现，认出
They were spotted by police as they were entering the bank.
(2) n. 斑点，污点，地点，场所
Which has spots, the leopard or the tiger?
A spot is most seen on the finest cloth.
Spain is our favorite holiday spot.
【拓展】 spotted adj. 有斑点的；spotless adj. 极清洁的，洁净的；on the spot 在现场，当场; be spotted with 满是……斑点; spot sb doing 发现某人正在做某事。
4. account vt. ＆ n.
(1) vt. 认为，把……视为
He accounted himself lucky.
(2) n. 描述，叙述，理由，账目，帐户
The policeman gave an account of the traffic accident.
He got angry on this account.
The account shows that we have spent more than we received.
【拓展】 accountant n. 会计师；account for 导致，做出解释，是……的原因；on account of 因为，由于；on no account 决不，无论如何也不；open an account (在银行)开户。
【链接】 在表示原因的介词短语中除了on account of之外，常用的还有because of, as a result of, thanks to和owing to。
5. seek vt. ＆ vi.
(1) vt. 寻找，寻求，征求
He sought the woods for herbs.
We are seeking new ways to solve the problem.
(2) vi. 寻找，试图，设法
I planned to seek for a better job.
We sought to change his mind.
【拓展】 seek advice / help / permission 征求建议 / 寻求帮助 / 征求同意；seek out 找出，挑选出；seek after 寻求，追求，探索。
6. contrary n. ＆ adj.
(1) n. 反面，对立面
Cruelty is the contrary of kindness.
(2) adj. 相反的
Hot and cold are contrary words.
【拓展】 on the contrary 与此相反，正相反；be contrary to 与……相反。
7. indeed adv. 真正地，(用于加强语气)的确，确实
Thank you very much indeed!
I was indeed very glad to hear the news.
【注意】 indeed 作“真正地”解释时，通常置于句末。
