6A Unit 10 Forests 教学案例
Good afternoon everyone, it’s my great honor to present my lesson here. Today, I’m going to talk about the reading part of unit10 from Oxford English 6A. The title of the reading passage is “Forests” . To make my presentation much clearer, I’d like to divide the teaching structure into 4 parts: analysis of teaching material, analysis of students, analysis of teaching and learning methods, teaching procedure. Now I am about to present them one by one.
I.Analysis of teaching material
The first part is the analysis of teaching material.
This text is about forests. This kind of topic is related to Ss’ daily life, so the Ss will love to read the passage and desire to speak out their ideas. Besides, Ss are going to learn some new words and phrases from the text, which are helpful for their further English study in future. According to the students’ English level and the demands of the New Standard English, I divide my lesson objectives into three categories: knowledge objects, ability objects and moral objects.
1.Knowledge objectives
In the first place, knowledge objects include:
to grasp the new words and phrases in the text, eg: provide, area, insect, hollow, furniture, make a nest, cut down, etc.;
to learn some sentence patterns by making dialogues, eg: provide...for, use ... to do ..., get...from....;
to understand the main idea of the passage and know the importance of forests.
2.Ability objectives
to improve Ss’ ability of reading and writing;
to develop Ss’ ability of speaking and divergent?thinking by getting them involved in different activities and problem solving.
3.Moral objects
At last moves to moral objects. The moral objects are
to help Ss’ to realize the importance of forests and develop their love towards forests;
to cultivate Ss’ awareness of protecting forests and prompt them to protect forests.
4.Key points
Based on the objectives, I make the teaching key points and difficult points as follow:
Grasping the new words and expressions so as to get the main idea of the passage.
Knowing the importance of forests.
5.Difficult point:
While the teaching difficult point is
to use the knowledge learned in class and their own words to compose an article about “Forests”.
(Reasons: The task depends on the high abilities of speaking, thinking and writing. Students are usually lack of these skills.)
II.?Analysis of students
The second part is analysis of students. The students in Class 4,Grade 6 have the ability to complete tasks by cooperating with one another. However, as junior middle school students, they can’t keep their attention for a long time. So I will use some multi-media and different tasks to attract their attention. During this period of learning English, they have the enthusiasm and interest to take part in the class activities. And English teaching should face all the students, to some students who are poor at English, I’ll give them some easy jobs and let the better students help them so that all the students can experience the pleasure of success.
III.Analysis of teaching and learning methods
Then I move to the third part analysis of teaching and learning methods.
As we know, it’s the best way for the junior students to learn English mainly by tasks. So with the help of the multi-media and blackboard, I’ll use the task-based teaching approach together with the communicative teaching method ,and the situational teaching method. I’ll organize different tasks and activities for the students to learn by themselves, group work, pair work, team work ,etc. These activities can cultivate the students’ sense of unity and cooperation.
I’ll use the learner-centered method .I’ll act as a director while the students act as the real master of the class. I’ll try to use some encouraging and polite remarks such as “well done”, “you did a good job”, etc. to help every student make a progress in my class. Let the students enjoy the process of learning English.
IV.Analysis of teaching procedures:
In order to achieve my teaching aims successfully I divide my teaching procedure into 5 steps: pre-task preparations, while-task activities, post-task activities, summary and assignments.
1. Pre-task preparations
In this step I will show a vedio on the screen to the Ss and let them guess today’s topic.
The purpose of this step is to arouse Ss’ interest of the lesson, and lead in the topic- Forests. Through the pictures presented, Ss will know that forests are a large area of trees.
2. While-task activities
1) Look at the picture and learn some new words and phrases:forests, insects, make a nest, hollow
2) ①Read the sentences from the text and get to know the pattern: give...to..., provide... For...
Forests give shelter to birds, animals and insects. →
Forests provide shelter for birds, animals and insects.
②Do pair-work with give...to..., provide... for...
A: What do forests give to … ?
B: They give … to … .
A: What do forests provide for … ?
B: They provide … for … .
(meat, honey, leaves, hollows, nests, fruit, flowers...)
Through this step Ss will learn to use the sentence pattern: provide... for...
3) Read the first paragraph by themselves and answer 5 questions in order to grasp the main idea of paragraph one
4) Read the first paragraph with tape and answer ”What do you think of forests?” in order to get further understanding: Forests are important.
5)①Look at the pictures and fill in the blanks
What can we get from the trees ?
We can get ________ from the trees.
To learn the words in the text: leaves, flowers, fruit, wood and apply the sentence pattern: get...from...
②Brainstorm: What do people use wood to do?
To train Ss’ speaking & divergent thinking ability and apply the sentence pattern: use...to...
③Do pair work with get...from...,use...to...
A: What can we get from the forest?
B: We can get wood from the forest.
A: What do we use wood to do?
B: We use wood to... (make a fire, paper, furniture, houses, cook food, ect.)
In this step, Ss learn to practice the sentence pattern: get...from...,and use...to...
6) ①Look at the picture and learn the phrase: cut down
②Think about the question: What happens to the animals? and say something according to the text.
People cut down too many trees.
→What happens to the animals?
→Many animals die because they lose their homes and food.
→We must stop cutting down forests.
To elicit the sentence from the text we must stop cutting down forests and prompt them to protect forests.
7) ①Read the second paragraph and the third paragraph with tape
②Fill in the blanks
③Answer ”What do you think of forests?”
To consolidate paragraph two and three and to get further understanding: Forests are useful and limited.
8) ①Read the whole text on P70 with tape
②Complete the display board about forests on p71
Through this step, Ss will consolidate the whole passage.
Post-task activities
1)①Think and say: What do you think of forests?
→Forests are beautiful, important, useful, limited ... .
②Look at the pictures and to arouse Ss’ awareness of protecting forests.
Forests are beautiful, important and useful.
→ However, they are becoming fewer and fewer.
2)Have a group discussion:
If there is no forest, what will happen ?
What should/shouldn't we do to save the forests?
This step cultivates Ss’ communication, speaking ,divergent thinking, and cooperation ability.
3)Do a report
Forests are very important.
If there is no forest, _______________________.
If there is no forest, _______________________.
Without forests, many animals may die.
We should/ shouldn’t ______________________.
We should/ shouldn’t ______________________.
_________________________________________.
Ss can use the extra-phrases given to complete the report. The post-task activities help Ss realize the importance of protecting forests and train their ability of speaking and divergent?thinking.
Summary
Do a summary orally and give some hints and information on writing
forests area insect nest hollow wood furniture
use ... to do...
get ... from ...
provide... for...
Forests are very beautiful, important and useful. But it is also very limited just like the water. So we must stop cutting down forests.
Saving forests is saving ourselves!
In this step, Ss use the new words, phrases and sentence patterns learned today to make a summary by themselves. Some structures can also be used into their own compositions.

Summary
教学反思:
本课时,为6A forests的教学。
通过图片影像等学习新单词eg: provide, area, insect, hollow, furniture,并通过操练对话等学习新的句型eg: provide...for, use ... to do ..., get...from....;
