Andrew Holleman, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the open land near his home. The land was wet and forested, and made a home for the birds, other animals and many different plants.
It made the perfect place for him to study and get to know the nature. He had seen some red-tailed hawks, red foxes, wood turtles and other animals. He also found special native flowers.
Suddenly it was announced that the “empty” land would be improved by a lot of houses on it. The plants would be removed, the animals would run away and most would probably die. Then the wet soil(土壤) would be covered with extra grounds.
When he heard about the news, he was not happy. He was very worried that the land and water would be polluted.
Andrew wrote down clearly all the research he had done about the area, and how the houses would affect(影响) the local environment. He sent letters to members of local government and television reporters. He also called on his neighbors to oppose the building of the houses.
Although he was only 12 years old, he had the courage and wisdom of a person much older.
Andrew??s teachers described him as gentle, shy and active. His classmates also admired how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, Andrew went door-to-door to ask the people to sign(签名), who did not want the houses to be built. In only one month, he got the signatures of 250 people.
In the end, the land remained a safe place for birds, animals and plants that belonged there.
Andrew won many prizes for his brave and great work to stop the houses being built, and thus help save the environment.

A man enters a store to buy milk. He walks out of the store with milk. But when a woman goes into the same store also to buy milk, she buys it, and she also buys chicken and lemons to make dinner that night. Then she remembers to buy food for her son to eat at school.
And that is the difference between the male(男性) and female(女性) brains simply explained in a store. Generally speaking, men do one thing at a time. Women do many.
Now scientific research supports this theory(理论) about male and female brains. A recent study has shown men and women think differently.
Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania studied brain images(图像) of 949 people. They found that male brains have more connections on one side of the brain. In the female brain, they found more activity and connections between the right and left sides of the brain. The left side of the brain is known as the side of “reason”. The right hemisphere(大脑的半球) is known as the “creative” side.
Regina Verma, one of the scientists, says women might use different parts of the brain when they are asked to do something difficult. Men, she adds, use just one side of the brain.

In real life, robots are mainly used in factories. They do some dangerous and difficult jobs for humans.
Robots also help disabled people, for example, blind people. Today many blind people have a guide dog to help them. In the future, guide dogs might be robot dogs.
One kind of robot guide dog has wheels. It moves in front of the owner. It is very clever. It knows the speed of its owner??s walk. The owner wears a special belt(带子). This belt sends instructions to the owner from the dog, such as “Stop here”, “Turn left” or “Turn right”.
In the United States, another kind of robot helps disabled people to take care of themselves in their daily life. The robot hears the sound of its owner??s voice. It follows instructions such as “Turn the page” or “Make a cup of coffee”.
Robots are also used in American hospitals. They can do simple jobs. At one hospital, for example, a robot takes meals from the kitchen to patients?? rooms. It never gets lost because this robot has a map of the hospital in its computer memory.
Though robots can help people in many different ways, they will never take the place of humans.

How to make our life happier?
Different people have different ideas about happy life. In my opinion, keeping healthy will make our life happier.
First, good living habits are necessary. We should get enough sleep and try not to stay up late. Second, we should have healthy eating habits. We??d better have different kinds of food and stay away from smoking and drinking too much. Third, we should do more exercise to build up our bodies. Finally, it??s important to keep happy every day.
I hope we can keep healthier and make our life happier.
