1. To get a general idea of the reading passage about finding and understanding information, especially from encyclopaedias.
2. To stimulate the students to pay close attention to the endangered animals.

Ask the Ss to help me solve the problem: To pick a book which can tell my son a lot of information about sharks. (Express the reason)

2. Look and predict
Show the Ss a picture and ask them to predict what the article mainly about?
3. Invite the students to say something about dinosaurs
To drill the Ss to make intelligent guesses about what might be in the article.
While-reading
1. Read and judge
Ask the Ss to skim the whole text and judge
2. Read and complete
(1) Ask the Ss to read the first and second
paragraphs and complete the table.
(2) Summarize in which aspects editor introduce dinosaurs.
3. Pair work
Based on the table, talk about dinosaurs in pairs.
4. Look and learn
(1) Ask the Ss to read the last paragraph and
answer: How do people know about the lives of dinosaurs?
(2) Teach the new words with the pictures.
5. Read and think
(1) Ask the Ss to read the whole passage.
(2) Ask them to think about:
What do the words in the bracket at the end of the passage stand for?
