Technology is everywhere. In fact, almost all of us carry some piece of technology with us every time we leave the house. What I always forget, though, is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we want to help others.
There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices (设备). Whenever I am at home, I am almost always using at least one electronic device. If you walk into my
living room on any given day, you will find that, first, I have the television on. At the same time, I usually have my laptop resting on my knee, or I am using my mobile phone. Even when I’m not at home, I am always using my phone, and at work or in cafés, I sit down and connect to the local wireless network on my laptop.
I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering. Recently I discovered just how much online volunteering there is to do in the world. From using your language skills to do translations, to developing and managing projects and helping with IT work, there is so much that so many people can do to help people in their own countries and across the world. The United Nations, in fact, has a huge page with “Volunteers Recruited ” on its website.
This work can support the poor and help charities who cannot pay for staff members. Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week—some even less. And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need. ( )16. From Paragraph 2, we can know that the writer _____.
A. uses technology a lot B. works in a café
C. is a computer engineer D. likes modern music
( )17. The underlined word “Recruited ” probably means _____ in Chinese in Paragraph 4.
AB( )18. In the writer’s opinion, people should spend more time_____with technology.
A. working on computer programs
B. keeping the Internet safe
C. inventing electronic products
D. helping people in need D( )19. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. The writer is always too busy to help others.
B. There is a single room in the writer’s house that has some electronic devices.
C. The writer can make use of some time to take up a little online volunteering.
D. Many organizations only require volunteers to work an hour a day.
C( )20. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Website Design B. Internet Organizations
C. Online Volunteering D. Online TranslationC【答案详解】 16.A 细节理解题。 A. uses technology a lot大量使用技术;B. works in a café在咖啡馆工作;C. is a computer engineer是个电脑工程师;D. likes modern music 喜欢现代音乐。 There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices(设备) lying around in it. A. I discovered just how much online volunteering there is to do in the world. A. working on computer programs操作计算机程序;B. keeping the Internet safe保持互联网安全;C. inventing electronic products发明电子产品;D. helping people in need帮助需要帮助的人。 I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering以及下一段的开头The technology we carry about everywhere can have a great power to do good for the world and to help others可知,作者觉得自己浪费了很多时间在电脑上,这些时间他可以更好的利用起来去从事一些网上的志愿者工作。 I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer判断A项错误,C项正确,根据There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices . Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week. What I always forget, though, is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we want to help others点明文章的主题,从短文的第三段开始,作者对文章主题进行展开论述,即我们应该利用这些技术去做一些在线的志愿者活动,去帮助别人,所以C选项Online volunteering在线志愿者活动这个题目能点明文章的主题,故选C。

Now, it seems that artificial intelligence (人工智能)is becoming more and more popular in our life, and it has greatly influenced the ways we live, work and play.
Recently, a Japanese scientist has invented a special robot that works as a table tennis coach. That means people can practice table tennis not only with humans but also with a robot. Named Forpheus, the smart table tennis robot is quite special. It can study the movements of human players and the speeds of the ball. In this way, it can exactly judge(判断)the players’ skill levels. Then it uses the information to change the ways to play. If the players are just beginners, Forpheus will play in a slow and easy way, but if the players are better ones, the robot will play in a faster and more difficult way. What’s more, while playing, it encourages players to try their best with words like “Good job!” and so on. At the same time, it gives some good advice to improve their skills. So it is both a good partner and a clever coach. Science and technology is developing quickly these days and it’s hard to imagine what will happen in the future. “In the next 20 years, it will be possible that one robot teaches another to play table tennis or even invents another one!” Taku Oya, this robot’s Japanese inventor, said. AI is developing very quickly. It is being used more and more widely in our daily life nowadays.
AI will be very helpful. It can do many things for us. The robots can clean the house or take care of the kids. AI drivers can help us drive the cars safely. AI teachers can teach students in schools.
I don’t think AI will replace humans. It is created by humans. Humans are smarter than AI machines. Maybe it will become dangerous. Human power is greater than AI power. We can stop it.

AI is developing very quickly. It is being used more and more widely in our daily life nowadays.
It will be very helpful in many ways in the near future. We can make robots work for us, like cleaning the house or taking care of the kids. There will be AI drivers in self-driving cars and AI teachers in many schools. However, I don’t think AI will take the place of humans because AI is created by humans. That is to say, human power is greater than AI power. What’s more, humans are clever enough to stop AI machines if we find they are becoming dangerous.
