I have never taken cooking classes. I learned cooking from my mother because she was really interested in teaching me how to cook. The main reason for this was because when my mother got married, she didn’t know how to cook anything, not even an egg. My grandmother never allowed her to stay in the kitchen when she was cooking.
My mother did not start to cook until she was twenty-five years old. In the beginning,it was very hard for her. Therefore, she had to take cooking classes to prepare(准备)our meals. After having that experience, she decided to teach me how to cook because she didn’t want me to have the same experience.
I remember when I was seven years old,I started to learn cooking from my mother. Sometimes we prepared the meals that my mother already knew how to make, and sometimes we prepared meals from recipes. Thanks to that experience, now I don’t need any help to cook a meal. I can cook for myself or for a group of people. It doesn’t matter. I will do the same with my children because I don’t want them to have the same experience as my mother. If one day I were not to be with them,I would be sure that they could continue their life without me.

Dear Jack,
How are you? Thanks very much for your last letter.
I've finished all my exams. The last one was yesterday. It was history.I think this subject is really difficult because there’re lots of acts and dates to remember. I've got a poor memory and I hate to remember things. I'm afraid I can’t pass the history examination.
This term,I learnt eight subjects. The worst were history and French.I found them very boring and difficult to learn. I think I need to study hard next year.
I like geography best, but we only had it twice a week. Our geography teacher, Mr Green, is great. He taught the subject well.He didn’t like to spoon-feed students with lots of facts. He hoped us to learn freely. He didn’t give us any homework the whole year.Perhaps he hated doing homework when he was a student.
We did a project with Mr Green about a few countries in Europe and Asia.
Some of my friends went to the library for photos and I used the Internet to search for information.Mr Green gave us a lot of helpful advice. At the end of this term,we gave an oral presentation(口头报告)in front of the class.
I’d like to be a pilot, and then I could travel and see all those places.

Being a Happy Kid to have success
Have you ever had problems in your life and don’t know how to be happy? If so, you will find “Being a Happy Teenager” by Australian writer Andrew Matthews useful.
In his book, Matthews tells us how to have a happy life and answers the questions of teenagers.
There are many subjects such as parents and friends, and the book says we should stop being angry and forgive(原谅). The book tells us a lot of useful skills such as how to put what you have learned into pictures of your mind to make your memory better.
Many teenagers think that happiness comes from a good exam result or praise(赞扬) from other people. But you can still be happy when there are no such “good” things.
成功来自于一种好的态度。If you learn from problems, you will have success in the future.
Some schoolboys have problems such as being too tall or too short. But Matthews tells us happiness comes from thinking about things in a positive way. If you are tall, you are easy to be noticed, and you can get a better view at the movie as well; if you are short, your clothes and shoes take less room in your bedroom!
This is Matthews’ most important lesson: You choose to be happy!

参考作文
As for too much homework, different people have different ideas.
Many parents and teachers think the more time is spent, the more work will be done. So it is common to see students struggling in a sea of school work both at school and at home. Especially at weekends, they have even more homework to do.
Modern students usually have many interests. They love music and sports. They like reading and watching TV. But they have no time to enjoy themselves. Students are SO tired of their homework that they have to finish it carelessly. What’s worse, too much homework not only makes students lose interest in learning, it’s also bad for their health.
A horse runs faster after a rest. But for students only rest is not enough. So such a condition should be changed to give students both pleasure and knowledge.
