Mr. West wanted to buy his wife a Christmas present and he went to a big shop near his office during the lunch hour. The shop was full of women. Mr. West stood politely at the edge of the crowd. 一般来说,句子中的词重读与否与这些词在句中意思上的重要性密切相关。实词一般重读而虚词不重读,因为实词,如名词、动词、形容词、副词、数词等一般传达主要的意思,而虚词如介词、连词、冠词等主要起语法作用。
例: The sky is blue. (加下划线部分是重读的单词。)

但是要注意的是,说话是灵活的,没有固定不变的规则。所以,说话意图对词的重读有影响,常见情况有以下两种:
1.说话有很大的目的性,我们在说话时会重读要强调的内容。
例: He himself cooked the dinner. (强调晚餐是他自己做的,不是别人做的。)
2.对于上文已经提到过的词或已表达过的意思,在下文中就可以不重读。
例: (1) A:Whose book is it?
B:It is my book. (book可不重读)

1. 弱读式的读音变化
(1) 长音弱读时变短音。
如: she /?i?/ (强读式) /??/ (弱读式)
(2) 有的弱读式是将元音前的辅音省略。

有的则将元音省略,只读尾音的辅音。
如: is /?z/ (强读式) /z/(弱读式)
(3) 有的弱读式元音发生改变,一般为/?/ 。

2. 强读式和弱读式的使用
(1) 弱读式出现在句子非重读词中。
如: He saw Jack and Jill. and弱读为/?nd/。
(2) 强读式出现在下列情况中:
①在该词需要重读时,如:We are brothers. We重读,读强读式/wi?/。
②出现在句首或句末,或单独出现时,即使该词不重读也用强读式。
