“Very well,” answered Einstein, I’m going to Dartmouth College next week. They don’t know me. You can give the lecture as Einstein, and I’ll be Harry!”

Just as Harry was walking down from the podium(讲台), however, one of the listeners asked him a question about the theory on relativity(相对论). That was a difficult one. For the first time, Zhang Shengyu, a student from Laiyang Middle School in Shandong, didn’t ask her mother to buy her a new schoolbag or any new pens for the beginning of the school term. “My old schoolbag can still be used, so there is no need to buy a new one,” Zhang said, “I’ve decided to be thrifty from now on.”
As the center of the family’s attention, many of the one-child generation (一代人) do not know about the hardships of life. They sometimes have no idea of the value of things. Many students would throw away pens and erasers that haven’t been used up and buy new ones. Some like to compete with each other to see whose clothes and school things are more expensive.
On its website in January, the Ministry of Education called on students to form good habits such as working hard, being helpful and thrifty, to avoid wasting food and to pay more attention to study.
Many schools consider teaching the value of money to be an important lesson and encourage their students to be thrifty.
Students at No. 44 Middle School of Shijiazhuang, Hebei planted many fruit trees in their school. Through taking care of the trees, the students learned how to value things.
At Tie Yi Middle School in Xi’an, students organized a group to collect waste and reuse them. “What we students do are small things, but I think with everyone’s work, we can make a difference,” said Li Dongdong, 16, a student from the group.
28. The underlined (画线的)word “thrifty” in Paragraph 1 means ______.
A. giving money to the poor B. spending lots of money
C. spending no money at all D. using money carefully
29. In January, the Ministry of Education called on students to do the followings EXCEPT _________.
A. working hard B. being thrifty

A. took care of trees
B. planted fruit trees
C. collected waste
D. didn’t ask his mother for a new school bag
31. What is the best title of the passage?
A. School activities B. Waste not, want not
C. Make a difference D. The problems of one-child generation

Are you afraid of moving up to senior high school? It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide to help you in the first week.
You’re not alone
Remember everybody else in your year is in the same boat. They may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is a chance, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help
If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything, then ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. He/ She will help you if you have any problems or questions.
All change
There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects(课程) on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects.
Other points
If you’ve got an older brother or sister at the school, then ask them for advice.
Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning!
32. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined sentence?
A. Other students have similar feelings to yours.
B. Other students have to learn boating with you.
C. Other students will help you solve your problems.
D. Other students will teach you more rules.
33. New students turn to teachers first when having problems because teachers ______.
A. can find friends for students B. are good at helping new students
C. can look after students like parents D. help younger students more
34. Which of the following is WRONG according to the passage?
A. You should act in a natural way.
B. You should go to bed early.
C. You must know how to dress smartly.
D. You can ask your older brother for advice.
35. The author wrote the passage to ______.
A. tell students the importance of learning.
B. ask students not to forget friendship in senior high school
C. advise students to work hard when moving up to senior high school
D. help new students to get used to the life in senior high school

六、作文
Dear Jack,
I’m so happy to hear from you. Really glad to tell you something about my life as a Senior High School student. We have so many subjects to learn and thus every day is filled with much homework. Also, it is more difficult to understand the textbooks. We will fall behind if we don’t study hard and spend more time on study.
Therefore, I feel tired and even stressed out in the evening. Luckily, I have some ways to relax myself. For example, I often read my favorite books during the breaks or go for a jog with my close friends after class. If you have some good ideas, please share them with me.
With best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua
