W: Andrew, tell us about “The week the women went”.
M: Well, it was an experiment to see how the men in the village would manage if their wives all went away on holiday for a week. The television company wanted to see if the men could look after their families and join in village life in the same way that their wives do.
W: Your sons are 10 and 13. How did they feel when your wife left for the week?
M: Very upset. We started by planning our menu. They wanted their favorite meals, but when we looked them up in the recipe book they were far too difficult to make. So we got lots of ready meals from the supermarket. Kim, my wife, almost never buys them because they’re expensive.

Mary was Followed
Last summer, Mary was on holiday alone in Barcelona. One day she went to a concert, but when the concert was over, it was very late at night, so she had to take a taxi back to the hotel. The taxi couldn’t take Mary to the door of the hotel because it was in a pedestrian area, so she had to walk the last 500 meters. She was walking back to the hotel when she noticed that someone was following her. She felt worried because there was nobody around.
When she heard the footsteps behind her, she was scared and she walked faster. The person behind her walked faster too, so she started to run. The person behind her shouted, “Stop!” But she didn’t stop until she reached the hotel. At the hotel, there was a night porter, so she felt safe. She had escaped from the attacker!
However, to her surprise, her attacker followed her into the hotel — but he wasn’t a robber and he hadn’t been trying to attack her. He was the taxi driver, and he was returning her bag. She’d left it in the taxi!
