Part A 略
Part B
M: So, Susie, did you have a good weekend?
W: It was good, thanks. You won’t believe what I did.
M: What?
W: Remember I told you my dad wanted a desk for his new office? I offered to help him find one online?
M: Oh, yeah?
W: Well, I found a black one. It looked perfect, exactly what I was looking for. It was a fantastic price too. So I ordered it, and it arrived on Saturday — but, the funny thing is, it was really, really small.
M: How small?
W: It only came up to my knees! It turned out I’d ordered a desk for a child. I forgot to check the measurements on the website. I had to phone the company to explain.

(1) 学生问:他们同意让你把桌子退回去吗?Did they agree to let you return the desk to them?
录音答:Luckily, yes. It was very good of them. But then I still had to find a desk. I was looking everywhere, but I couldn’t find anything. In the end, my aunt suggested I try one of those freecycling websites.
(2) 学生问:那是不是人们处理他们不要的东西的地方?Is it where people get rid of stuff they don’t want?
录音答:Yes. I’d never heard of it before, though. I found a dark red desk straight away — and the best thing is, it’s free. I think the owner doesn’t have enough space for it, so he’s just giving it away. All I have to do is go and pick it up.
(3) 学生问:你确定这次大小合适吗?Are you sure it’s the right size this time?
录音答:Ha-ha. Yeah, I double checked the measurements this time. Actually, I’m going to get the desk on Saturday, but the owner lives a little far from Dad’s office, so Tom is going to borrow his uncle’s truck and help me move it.

(1) 录音问:When did Susie get the black desk?
学生答:On Saturday.
(2) 录音问:How big was the black desk?
学生答:It only came up to Susie’s knees.
(3) 录音问:Who advised Susie to try one of the freecycling websites?
学生答:Her aunt.
(4) 录音问:How much is the dark red desk?
学生答:It’s free.
(5) 录音问:Why is Tom going to borrow his uncle’s truck?
学生答:To help Susie move the desk.
Part C
The Quickest Way to London
I’d been traveling around the southwest of England in a hire car when I got a call from home telling me Mom was sick. I decided to return to the US right away and I set off in the direction of London, but after I’d been going for an hour I still hadn’t seen any signposts. I decided to check if I was heading the right way, but it had been raining all morning and there was nobody around to ask. Finally, I found a tiny village with a grocery store, so I pulled over and went inside. An old woman, who’d been sleeping when I walked in, looked up in surprise. I guess I was the first person to enter the store that day.
“Can I help you?” she asks.
“Yeah, I hope so,” I say. “Can you tell me the quickest way to London?”
“Well,” says the woman, “are you walking, cycling, or driving?”
“Driving,” I say. “I have a car outside.”
“Good!” she says. “Driving’s definitely the quickest way!”
Was this some kind of joke? I looked at her face but all I could see was an innocent smile. “Thank you, ma’am,” I said and left. I made it to London and then took the quickest way home to Chicago — the plane!
