Unit 6 How do you feel? Part C Story time
Teaching Aims:
1. Students can understand the story with the help of the pictures and read it correctly.
2. Students can become eager to express their thoughts and feelings in English and act out the story.
3. Students can review the words and sentences of this unit: “How do you feel? I am happy/sad/angry/worried/sad``` You should count to ten and take a deep breath”.
Students can grasp the meaning of the new words and phrases: “on soon, popcorn, check, seeds, take a long time to grow”
Students can have the sense to care for others and do things more efficiently.
Analysis of the students Most of the students of Grade Six have learned some basic phrases and sentences. While, as the knowledge increasing and becoming more difficult, they have less chances and interest to express in English. Besides, dialogues and texts are longer in the textbook this year, which makes it harder for students to learn and use. Therefore, I prepared a lot of knowledge construction before their English presentation in order to encourage them to express in English after group-work and creative thinking.
Teaching Important Points:
Students can use the words and sentences of this unit to express feelings and suggestions and act out the story.
Teaching Difficult Points;
Students can be able to understand the story and read it correctly
Teaching Methods:
Task-based language teaching, Communicative Teaching, Audio-lingual
approach
Teaching Aids: PPT and pictures
Ⅰ.Warm-up 1.Sing the song: If you’re happy, clap your hands.
(Ask students to sing together to review the words and phrases.)
2. Game “Patient Doctors”
Some students act as the patients and say sentences “I am```” according to the pictures shown on PPT and others act as doctor to ask and give suggestions with “How do you feel?” and “You should ``` ”
(Review the sentences “I am happy/sad/angry/worried/sad/cold```” “You should take a deep breathe/ do more exercise/ wear warm clothes/count to ten”)
Ⅱ.Lead-in
Show three pictures of Zip and Zoom, then ask students to guess “How does Zip feel? Why?” “What is Zoom doing?”
(Make students have an overall expression of the story and become curious about the story.)
Ⅲ.Presentation
Watch the video and answer questions
(Get the main idea of the story)
2. Game “ House finding”
Explain the new words and put the right ones in correct sentences “TV show/ on soon/ pop corn / must / check /seed /take a long time to grow”. Then ask students to read after the radio.
(Students can grasp the pronunciation of the new phrases and know how to use them in sentences.)
Reorder the pictures
(Make students have a deep impression of the story and prepare for the role-play later.)
?4. Retell the story
Retell the story with the help of some main words and phrases beside the pictures。
(Provide a larger vocabulary of the story for students to express later.)
Ⅳ.Practice ,Consolidation and extension
Game “Choosing the lucky card”
Each group come to choose a card, and the group members will get rewards after they finish the task written on the card.
(Arrange different levels of tasks so that every student can have the confidence to learn more and encourage them to express themselves in class)
2. Role-play
Students work in groups to make a short play of the story (they can add some Zips and some Zooms and rewrite the actor’s lines )
3. Moral education
We should care for others and help others.
