In Canada you can find dogs, cats, horses, etc.in almost all families. These are their pets.People love these pets and have them as their good friends.
Before they keep pets in their houses, they take them to animal hospitals to give them injections(注射) so that they won't carry disease. They have special animal food stores, though they can get animal food in almost every kind of stores. Some people spend around two hundred Canadian dollars a month on animal food. When you visit people's houses, they would be very glad to show you their pets and they are very proud of them. You will also find that almost every family has a bird feeder in the garden. All kinds of birds are welcomed to come and have a good meal. They are free to come and go and nobody is allowed to kill any animal in Canada. They have a law against killing wild animals. If you killed an animal, you would be punished. If an animal happened to get run over by a car, people would be very sad about it.
People in Canada have many reasons to like animals. One of them might be: their family ties are not as close as ours. When children grow up, they leave their parents and start their own life. Then the old will feel lonely. But pets can solve this problem. They can be good friends and never leave them alone.

The United States is full of cars. There are still many families without cars, but some families have two or more. However, cars are used for more than pleasure. They are a necessary part of life.
Cars are used for business. They are driven to offices and factories by workers who have no other way to get to their jobs. When salesmen are sent to different parts of the city, they have to drive in order to carry their products.Farmers have to drive into the city in order to get supplies.
Sometimes small children must be driven to school. In some cities school buses are used only when children live more than a mile away from the school. When the children are too young to walk too far, their mothers take turns in driving them to school. One mother drives on Mondays, taking her own children and the neighbours' as well.Another mother drives on Tuesdays, another on Wednesdays, and so on.This is called forming a car pool.Men also form car pools, with three or four men taking turns in driving to the place where they all work.

In choosing a friend, one should be very careful.A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy.Sometimes you will meet fair?weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend? I look for certain qualities of character, especially understanding, honesty and reliability(可靠性).
Above all else, I look for understanding in a friend.A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He is not quick to judge.Instead, he tries to learn from others. He puts himself in the other person's place, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener.
At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. He does not look for faults in others. He notices their good points. In short, a friend will try to understand me and accept me.
Another quality of a friend is reliability.I can always depend on a good friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favour, he will do his best to help me.If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me.
There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special.A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun.We should enjoy our lives, and we would enjoy our friendship. That is why I especially like friends who are fun to be with.A good friend likes the same things I like.We share experience and learn from each other.A good friend has a good sense of humour, too.He likes to laugh with me.That is how we share the joy of being friends. And I know that he is looking for the same quality in me.
When I meet someone who is reliable, honest, and understanding, I know I've found a friend!

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
In the past, people who graduated from college felt proud of their academic(学业的) achievements and felt confident that their degree would help them to find a good job.
However, in the past four years the job market has changed greatly. This year's college graduates are facing one of the worst job markets. For example, Ryan Stewart, a graduate of San Jose State University, got a degree in religious studies, but no job prospects. He points out that many people already working are getting laid off and don't have jobs, so it's even harder for new college graduates to find jobs.
Four years ago, the future looked bright for the class of 2006. There were many high?tech job chances. Graduates received many job offers, and they were able to get jobs with high salaries and benefits such as insurance(保险) and paid vacations. However, “Times have changed and it's a new market,” according to an officer of the San Jose State Career Centre.
The officer says students who do find jobs started preparing two years ago. They worked during summer vacations, and they have had several short?time jobs, and they've majored in one of the few fields that are still hot, like chemical engineering, accounting, or nursing, where average starting salaries have actually increased over last year. Other popular fields (like information system management, computer science, and political science) have seen big declines(下降) in starting salaries.
Ryan Stewart (he had hoped to become a teacher) may go back to school in order to become a college teacher. He thinks college teaching could be a good career even in a bad economy.
In conclusion, these days a degree may not be a ticket to instant wealth for some students. For now, they can only hope the value of their degree will increase over time.

Fortunately, we have passed a law which forbids people to smoke in public places, and there are signs reminding people to limit smoking in public. I am sure our government will take measures to help people do so.
