Few of us haven't read Cinderella, the story of a young woman living in poverty who meets the prince of her dreams. Some might not want to admit it, but there is a hidden Cinderella in everyone's heart—we all wish we could achieve recognition or success after a period of obscurity (默默无闻) or neglect.
Mary Santiago has that secret dream, too. Her story is featured in Another Cinderella Story, a film set in a US high school.
Mary is shy but loves to dance. Compared with other girls, she is invisible. However, her world changes completely when a famous teenage pop singer, Joey Parker, appears.
Joey is everything the rest of the boys in her class are not—kind, handsome and desirable. Mary and Joey's paths cross at a ball. They meet and fall in love with each other. But when Mary has to rush back home, she leaves behind her MP3 player, which becomes the only clue Joey has to find the girl of his dreams. Of course, there is a wicked (邪恶的) stepmother, who turns out to be Dominique Blatt and she takes in Mary after her dancer mother dies. Dominique treats Mary like a maid and does everything she can to make sure Mary doesn't get into the top dance school. Her two daughters are equally determined to stop Joey falling for Mary, even if that means embarrassing her.
The story, though it mostly follows Cinderella, does add a few modern day twists to the classic fairy tale. Refreshingly, the film, unlike many high school films, does not focus on looks, although the actors are all beautiful. There is also a lot less materialism in Another Cinderella Story than in many similar movies.
“The movie takes the fairy tale Cinderella as its jumping off point,” writes movie critic Amber Wilkinson. “The focus is firmly on following your dream. ”

A great rivalry (对抗) can make a hockey (曲棍球) game exciting. But it's even better when both sides share the same goal. Students of Boston College (B.C.) and Boston University (B.U.) held a game for a good cause. Former members of the schools' hockey teams faced off in the 4th Annual Commonwealth Avenue Charity Classic. It took place at B.U.'s Walter Brown Arena. Every year, the competition raises money for Compassionate Care ALS, the Pete Frates Home Health Initiative and the Travis Roy Foundation. This year's event brought in a record-breaking $78,432.
Frates is fighting ALS, a disease that affects the brain. A former B.C. baseball team leader, he was diagnosed (诊断) with ALS in 2012, when he was only 27. Frates and his family have since raised hundreds of millions of dollars for ALS research, most famously with the Ice Bucket Challenge, which began in 2014.
“Pete likes social media (媒体) very much, so he wanted his voice, his face, everything that was happening to him to be recorded to help more people,” said John Frates, Pete's father.
The B.C. and B.U. students enjoy coming together for the event. “This is just the best of the hockey world,” said former B.U. hockey player Travis Roy. “Both schools have a lot of great hockey players. Their skills are impressive, and the fact that they come out here to support good causes is a big deal.”
After a heated battle (较量), the B.U. Terriers won. Afterwards, former B.U. star Charlie McAvoy summed up the feeling of friendliness on the ice. “We all come together,” said McAvoy, who now plays for the Boston Bruins, “and we're able to put aside the rivalry for great causes.”
B.U.'s Danny O'Regan, who now plays for the Buffalo Sabres, added, “You work hard on the ice and off the ice, and good things will happen.”

Almost 20 pounds of plastic (塑料) bags and other plastic rubbish were pulled from the stomach of a pilot whale that died over the weekend in Thailand, officials have said. Thailand's marine agency has promised to use the case to call for change in human behavior ahead of World Oceans Day, on June 8.
The pilot whale was first found struggling (挣扎) in a canal in southern Thailand's Songkhla Province a week ago. Animal doctors tried to help the animal, and it managed to spit (吐) out about five pieces of plastic on Friday but then died.
“This plastic rubbish made the whale sick and unable to hunt for food,” the government said. The department head, Jatuporn Buruspat, said the whale probably mistook the floating rubbish for food.
The United Nations' environmental chief warned in December that humans are throwing eight million tons of plastic into the oceans every year, and it will soon come back to bite us.
“At the present rate (速度), we'll end up with more plastic in the oceans than fish by the middle of the century, and finally that comes back to our own food chain,” U.N. Environment Executive Director of the United Nations, Erik Solheim, told CBS News' Pamela Falk.
“We need to understand that if we kill our oceans, we also kill ourselves,” Solheim said.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency agrees, saying, “Following many years of uncontrolled dumping (the act of throwing away rubbish), some areas of the ocean became polluted with harmful pollutants including heavy metals and oils.”
Although the U.S. is moving away from several U.N. agreements and organizations, including the Paris Climate Agreement, UNESCO, and the Global Compact on Migration, the U.S. government appears to be on board to clean up the oceans, Falk reported in December.
Solheim told CBS News “the methods are straightforward: There are plenty of natural alternatives to plastics... We don't need food stored in plastic bags, and we certainly don't need plastic straws (吸管) or throwaway plastic coffee cups.”
“This is an environmental disaster caused by laziness that is easily fixed by a healthier way.”

3.What did Solheim advise us to do?
A.To support all the U.N. agreements.
B.To be on board to clean up the oceans.

[2019·陕西咸阳期末]It's a classroom. Instead of being told to sit quietly and listen, you are encouraged to stand up, jump around, imagine and act out. It's a class full of laughter, emotion and energy. Welcome to the drama class, one of my favorite classes at high school.
In drama class we used to play a lot of “drama games”. We would improvise (即兴表演), copy and above all use our imagination.
My favorite game was called “Spotto”. One person stood in the front of the class and performed a scene, completely out of their imagination. When another yelled “Spotto!” , the performer had to freeze. Then the person who had yelled Spotto got up and improvised a new scene based on the position the first performer froze in. This went on as more and more people were added to the scene. Eventually the entire class would have joined the scene. Then the performers would start to leave in reverse (颠倒的) order.
It was a lot of fun, and a good test of everyone's imagination to see what they would come up with. The drama class at my school often involved a big performance at the end of the term as well. We would work on a production throughout the term and put on a show for our parents and the school community.
It was a great experience to perform on stage in front of a large audience. The drama class can help shy children, like me, to come out of their shells. It helped them become more confident and developed their public speaking skills. It was also a great place to express oneself, and a way for children to devote some of their energy to what interests them.
