一.阅读与回答问题(共5题,每题2分,计10分)
I teach at a college, 17 miles away from where I live. One day a few weeks ago, I drove those 17 miles to school. I exited the highway and turned onto the College Road. I only had to drive another quarter mile down the road to the college. But just then, my car broke down. I tried to start it again, but the engine wouldn’t turn over. So I took my books, and hurried down the road to the college.
I managed to arrive at the college on time. Another teacher was surprised to see me walk to school and asked, “What happened to your car?”
“My car broke down on the way, but I’m here on time.” I replied, smiling. “This is my lucky day.”
“Your car broke down, and today is your lucky day?” she was puzzled. “What do you mean?”
“I live 17 miles from here,” I replied. “My car could have broke down anywhere along the highway. It didn’t. Instead, it broke down in the perfect place: off the highway, within walking distance of here. So I’m still able to teach my class. If my car was meant to break down today, it couldn’t have been arranged in a more convenient way.”
That teacher’s eyes opened wide, and then she smiled and asked, “Why do you always seem to be so cheerful?”
“Every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to live that day,” I said. “I choose to be cheerful.”

According to Chris, the experience you gain is a great help in your career.Besides, just like the explorers of the past, you need to keep an open mind and learn to mix well with the people you meet. Most importantly, at the end of each task, you have made a real difference to people’s lives.

"Where there are Chinese speakers, there are his readers.” That sentence highlights the huge influence of Louis Cha Leungyung, better known by his penname Jin Yong, one of the most influential Chinese novelists.
Cha died on October 30, 2018, at the age of 94, in Hong Kong. That news recorded 1.27 billion views, slightly less than China's population, on Sina Weibo.
During his lifetime, Jin Yong wrote 15 martial arts novels. Over 300 million copies of his books have been sold around the world. He also created some of the most well-known characters in the history of Chinese literature, including Guo Jing, Wei Xiaobao and Linghu Chong.
Jin Yong was not the first person to write about the martial arts world known as jianghu, but no one can deny that he has written some of its best stories. His works were not only a joy for people to read, but also helped to shape Chinese people’s spirits and values in recent decades These values have been passed on to generations of Chinese through his books, as well as the countless movies and TV shows that have been adapted from his novels.
