A picnic is a pleasant trip on which food is taken to be eaten somewhere outdoors. It can be on the beach, on a riverbank, or even in the woods. If you want to organize a successful picnic, you should get all the necessary foods together. Also, you should take several tablecloths with you, which can serve as a place to put the food when you spread them out on the ground. Another important thing to think about is how to get everyone to help with the picnic. In other words, you should ask different people to do different things so that they can make the activity interesting and pleasant. Unit 3 1. 注意连读、语调和停顿

Although America is such a huge country, travelling is really very quick and easy. There are three ways to get across the country without a car: planes, trains and buses. Air travel is the most expensive of the three but in many ways the easiest and most comfortable. There are hundreds of flights a day crossing the country, and it is easy to make a reservation. Traveling by train is cheaper than by airplane. But it costs more than by bus and there are few passenger trains. On the trains there are dining cars and bars where meals are served quickly. If you are spending the night on the train, you can pay for a “roomette” which is a small room with a bed and a toilet. Unit 3 2. 注意失去爆破和不完全爆破

During the day we work and play; at night we sleep. While we are asleep, our bodies grow most. Children who are tired usually need more sleep. Boys and girls who are eight or nine years old need ten hours of sleep every night. Our bodies need plenty of air when we sleep. If we do not get enough fresh air, we’ll feel tired when we wake up. While in bed, we must not cover our heads. If we do, our lungs will not get enough fresh air. If we open our windows at night, we can have plenty of fresh air. Cool air is better than warm air. Boys and girls who want to grow and be strong must get plenty of sleep. Unit 3 3. 注意辅音连缀和停顿

The United States is one of the few countries in the world that has Father’s Day as an official holiday. On this day, children show their thanks to their fathers. On the third Sunday in June, fathers in the United States are given presents, treated to dinner or made to feel special in other ways. The origin of Father’s Day is not clear. Some say that it began in West Virginia in 1908, and some say that the person who started to celebrate the holiday was Mrs. Bruce John Dodd. She felt she had a great father and decided to celebrate Father’s Day on June 5, her father’s birthday. In 1924, the President made it a national holiday. Unit 3 4. 注意辅音连缀、连读和语调

The religion of the ancient Egyptians was based on nature. The chief god was Ra who represented the sun. But the Egyptians had many other gods, some of whom had the heads of animals. The Egyptians also believed in another life in which the soul of a man could live on if the body was preserved in a special way. The bodies were wrapped in cloth, and dressed with jewels and necklaces. The body of the dead person was buried together with things that the person had used during his life on earth, and things which he would need in the next life. Some of the tombs in which the bodies were kept were huge and beautiful structures. They were full of rare and expensive treasures. Unit 3 5. 注意失去爆破和不完全爆破及语调

In one’s life, one spends the most time being with oneself. But one has the least understanding of oneself. When you are successful, you may be very proud. When you fail, you may lose heart. If you don’t have a thorough understanding of yourself, you may miss many chances in life. To have a thorough understanding of yourself is to know yourself well. You may realize your strong points and weak ones. You may hope for a wonderful future, but be sure not to expect too much because not all dreams can come true. You may be confident enough to meet challenges, but first you should know what to do. To have a thorough understanding of yourself requires self-appreciation. As soon as you have full confidence in yourself, you are sure to be able to face anything. Unit 3 6. 注意连读、辅音连缀和语调
