Lead in Introduce a new character James who wants to have a picnic with Li’s family. Show the dialogue between them and then tell the students that if we want to have a picnic, we have to bring a lot of things including food and drinks. 1. To arouse students’ interest in the class. 2. To lead in the topic of the class: buying different food for a picnic.
Pre-task Brainstorm: write as many food names as possible with more letters in the alphabet.
While-task Show different characters’ favourite food or drinks. Help the students identify and then guide the students to induce the catalogue of them . Also, introduce the usage of the qualifiers. To help students identify the food and qualifiers
After the whole explanation, let the students say the sentence: I’d like to have...
Pair work: - What would you like to... - Shall we...? I’d like to have... Help the students familiarize the sentence pattern.
Play the record and let students circle what they have just heard. To help students review the food’s name and enhance their listening ability.
Play the record of the dialogue and let students fill in the blanks. Then play the record again and complete the blanks. To train students’ listening ability and help them get more familiar with the text.
Post-task Let the students think about more things they should bring to the picnic. Then introduce some helpful factors for them. To practice students’ communicative abilities and give them a chance to express their favourite picnic ideas and the reason.
