B
On
February
1,
1960,
in
the
town
of
Greensboro,
North
Carolina,
four
African
American
college
students
sat
down
on
chairs
at
the
lunch
counter
(便餐馆)
of
the
local
Woolworth's
department
store.
They
weren't
sitting
down
for
a
cup
of
coffee
or
a
piece
of
bread.
They
were
sitting
down
to
change
the
world,
or,
at
least,
a
part
of
it.
Throughout
the
South,
prejudice
(偏见)
against
African
Americans
was
common.
The
Woolworth's
lunch
counter

like
many
restaurants,
hotels,
and
hospitals

refused
to
serve
African
Americans.
This
humiliating
(屈辱的)
treatment
made
many
African
Americans
unhappy
and
begin
to
say,
“No
more!”
So,
Ezell
A.
Blair,
Jr.,
Franklin
McCain,
Joseph
McNeil,
and
David
Richmond

the
four
college
students

decided
to
fight
back
without
violence.
The
four
men
walked
into
Woolworth's
with
a
clear
plan
of
action.
They
knew
the
servers
would
refuse
to
serve
them.
They
knew
other
customers
would
treat
them
rudely.
But
no
matter
what,
they
would
remain
peaceful
and
polite,
even
to
those
who
behaved
hatefully
toward
them.
They'd
been
inspired
by
civil-rights
leader
Dr.
Martin
Luther
King,
Jr.
Dr.
King
asked
African
Americans
to
challenge
prejudice
and
demand
equal
treatment.
But
he
did
not
believe
in
using
violence
to
get
results.
Dr.
King
said
that
love
can
lead
to
understanding,
but
hate
only
leads
to
more
hate.
African
Americans,
he
said,
must
do
something
quite
difficult:
fight
violence
and
hate
with
peace
and
love.
The
four
men
in
Greensboro
believed
in
the
teachings
of
Dr.
King.
But
as
they
took
their
seats
at
the
counter,
they
had
to
wonder:
Would
these
ideas
work
In
fact
they
did.
By
the
end
of
the
week,
the
four
were
joined
by
hundreds
of
other
protesters.
News
of
their
“sit-in”
spread
around
the
country,
and
soon
other
groups
were
protesting
at
Woolworth's
around
the
country.
By
July,
the
lunch
counter
at
Woolworth's
was
open
to
African
Americans.
Other
restaurants
soon
followed.
Through
their
simple
act
of
sitting
down,
the
four
men
took
a
brave
stand
for
equality
and
peace.

did
Dr.
King
affect
the
four
college
students

By
acting
as
a
role

Make
School
is
one
of
the
most
unusual
schools
in
the
country:
It
lets
students
enter
school
for
free
if
they
agree
to
pay
later
after
they
land
a
job.
Ashu
Desai
helped
create
Make
School
in
2012.
The
goal
at
Make
School
is
not
getting
good
grades.
It's
putting
together
a
list
of
practical
work
able
to
impress
Silicon
Valley
companies
and
let
them
make
job
offers.
Make
School
runs
programs
of
varying
lengths.
Its
“Product
College”
is
a
two-year
computer
science
program
that
combines
internships
(实习)
at
big-name
Silicon
Valley
companies
with
classes
that
are
light
on
class
and
heavy
on
projects.
The
goal
is
for
graduating
students
to
have
created
games
or
other
apps
they
can
take
to
job
interviews.
Make
School
depends
on
an
“income-share
agreement,”
which
allows
students
to
go
to
school
and
not
have
to
take
out
loans
(贷款)

if
they
agree
to
pay
the
school
a
part
of
their
future
earnings.
About
85
percent
of
the
Product
College
students
are
men.
But
Desai
said
the
school
is
working
together
with
organizations
like
Girls
Who
Code
to
raise
the
number
of
women.
Lauren
Weiss,
18,
has
attended
two
summer
programs
at
Make
School.
While
she's
heading
to
college
in
her
home
state
of
Colorado
this
fall,
it's
mostly
because
she
earned
a
full-ride
scholarship,
not
because
she
thinks
it'll
be
better
than
the
Product
College.
“They're
able
to
teach
students
more
than
any
other
program
ever
could,”
she
said.
“People
really
are
pushed
to
grow.”
But
Barmak
Nassirian,
director
of
federal
policy
at
the
American
Association
of
State
Colleges
and
Universities,
warned
that
there
are
few
rules
and
students
may
fall
into
traps
(陷阱)
if
they
don't
read
the
terms
carefully.
Nassirian
also
said
he
was
somewhat
encouraged
by
Make
School,
though,
in
part
because
of
the
investors
(投资者)
who
have
backed
it.
28.
What
makes
Make
School
different
from
other
schools
A.
It
is
run
by
big-name
companies.
B.
It
can
provide
job
offers
for
students.
C.
It
allows
students
to
pay
after
getting
jobs.
D.
It
focuses
on
grades
more
than
practical
work.
29.
What
can
we
learn
about
“Product
College”
A.
It
designs
apps
for
students.
B.
It
helps
students
pay
back
their
loans.
C.
It
interviews
students
for
Silicon
Valley.
D.
It
is
trying
to
attract
more
women
students.
30.
What
is
Lauren
Weiss's
opinion
about
Make
School
A.
It
is
a
school
worth
attending.
B.
It
values
school
rules
above
all
else.
C.
It
is
poorer
than
colleges
in
Colorado.
D.
It
offers
various
entertainment
programs.
31.
What
is
Barmak
Nassirian's
attitude
to
Make
School
A.
Optimistic.
B.
Unclear.
C.
Doubtful.
D.
Objective.

Everyone
has
their
favourite
scenes
and
characters
in
Harry
Potter
books
and
films.
One
of
the
most
memorable
scenes
for
many
came
early
on
in
the
series.
In
Harry
Potter
and
the
Sorcerer's
Stone,
the
owls
(猫头鹰)
began
to
send
letters
to
Harry
inviting
him
to
Hogwarts
School
of
Witchcraft
and
Wizardry.
Owls
were
then
mentioned
frequently
in
the
books
and
created
amazing
images
in
the
films.
Everyone
around
the
world
loves
the
Harry
Potter
series.
But
if
there
has
been
one
bad
result
of
J.K.
Rowling's
creative
gifts,
it
is
the
craze
that
has
swept
(风靡)
through
many
countries
for
owning
an
owl.
Many
experts
suggest
that
because
Harry
Potter
fans
would
like
to
own
their
own
owl,
there
is
a
strong
chance
that
owls
may
soon
start
to
die
out.
There
are
over
200
different
species
(种类)
of
owl.
They
are
nocturnal
birds,
which
means
they
are
awake
at
night,
usually
hunting.
They
have
large
round
eyes
that
face
forwards
on
their
flat
faces.
Owls
also
like
to
be
on
their
own,
unless
it
is
the
mating
season.
Indonesia
is
one
of
the
main
countries
that
are
now
selling
owls
to
young
and
old
Harry
Potter
fans.
There
are
many
bird
markets
throughout
the
country,
with
the
largest
being
Pramuka
in
Indonesia's
capital
city,
Jakarta.
Birds
are
Indonesia's
most
popular
pet,
with
about
20
percent
of
all
homes
keeping
at
least
one.
It
is
thought
that
about
13,000
owls
are
sold
each
year
in
Indonesia's
bird
markets.
They
cost
between
$10
and
$30.
This
is
affordable
for
most
families
where
the
parents
work.
Most
of
the
owls
have
been
taken
from
the
wild
and
do
not
live
for
very
long
once
they
have
been
caught.
Not
everyone
is
happy
about
the
situation,
including
the
Harry
Potter
author,
J.K.
Rowling.
She
said,
“If
anybody
has
been
influenced
by
my
books,
to
think
an
owl
would
be
happiest
shut
in
a
small
cage
and
kept
in
a
house,
I
would
like
to
take
this
opportunity
to
say
as
forcefully
as
I
can,
‘You
are
wrong!'”

Ewan
has
a
motto:
Everyone
can
be
a
superhero
to
someone.
At
an
event
called
the
Hero
Round
Table,
Ewan
told
the
audience,
“It's
not
hard
to
help
people.
You
can
keep
some
socks
and
food
in
your
car
to
help
people
in
need.
You
can
help
a
neighbor
with
doing
the
garden.

It's
been
several
years
since
Super
Ewan
started
his
task.
Every
month,
he
still
visits
the
same
park
to
hand
out
clothes,
food,
and
supplies
to
people
who
are
hungry
or
homeless

his
Super
Friends.

“No

what,”
Ewan
says,
“I
will
always
keep
helping
people.”

day

第三部分:语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)
第一节(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
My
mother
was
a
gifted
clothes
maker.
I
liked
the
pictures
of
children's
clothes------
they
gave
me
41
for
the
paper
dolls
I
made.
Perhaps
that
was
why
my
mother
42
me
up
for
a
French
sewing
class.
French
sewing
took
place
on
Friday
afternoons.
The
43
had
nothing
to
do
with
doll
clothes
or
patterns.
Instead,
in
French
sewing
we
learned
to
44
hand
towels,
napkins,
and
others
using
cloth
in
light
colors.
Every
Friday
I
45
;my
pink
hand
towel
growing
dirtier
and
dirtier.
French
sewing
was
taught
by
the
46
Mademoiselle
Lambert,
who
asked
us
to
do
work
carefully.
And
she
also
taught
us
the
French
language.
We
47
the
stitches(针法)by
their
French
names.
I
went
48
in
regular
French
class
and
even
was
regarded
as
a
star.
French
sewing,
however,
was
another
49
.
Many
times
I
had
to
go
to
Lambert
for
help.
It
was
50
.
I
watched
unhappily
as,
with
a
slight
frown,
she
bent
her
head
over
my
work,
cleverly
51
my
work.
I
missed
her“Great!”after
I
52
translated
a
passage
in
our
French
class.
All
I
got
now
was
a
tired“OK”as
she
53
my
work.
Gradually
I
realized
that
some
of
the
girls
who
struggled
when
54
The
Adventures
of
Jean
and
Suzanne
aloud,
and
with
whom
I
was
often
55
,could
make
perfect
French
knots.
Lambert
56
at
their
work.
She
shouted,“Great”!
In
French
sewing
they
were
the
stars.
And
I
began
to
understand
how
they
must
57
in
regular
French
class
when
the
58
wouldn't
come.
Sewing
is
a
skill
that
requires
the
59
I
have
always
struggled
to
learn:
patience,
attention
to
detail,
the
willingness
to
work
and
rework.
And
even,
perhaps,
a
touch
of
being

I
used
become
angry
easily
and
didn't
get
along
well
with
anyone.
I
even
hated
people
looking
at
me,
that
could
get
me
angry.
When
people
got
too
close
to
us,
I
would
push
them
away.
My
mom
was
no
exception.
I
don't
understand
at
that
time
what
my
mom
had
done
for
me.
But
growing
up,
I
realised
I'd
been
causing
endless
trouble
for
my
family.
I
was
either
accidentally
breaking
something
and
talking
back
to
my
parent
.
Moreover,
no
matter
how
hard
that
was
to
take
care
of
me,
they
never
gave
up.
Finally,
I
realised
I
loved
them
deeply
in
my
heart.
Now
I
know
I
shouldn't
treat
them
bad
and
I
should
be
nice
to
them
all
of
the
time.
