阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)

(共15小题;每2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A,
B,C或D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
“Did
you
hear
what
happened
to
Adam
last
Friday ”
Lindsey
whispers
to
Tori.
With
her
eyes
shining,
Tori
brags,
“You
bet
I
did.
Sean
told
me
two
days
ago.”
What
are
Lindsey
and
Tori
talking
about
It
just
happens
to
be
yours
truly,
Adam
Freedman.
I
can
tell
you
that
what
they
are
saying
is
(a)
not
nice
and
(b)
not
even
true.
Still,
Lindsey
and
Tori
aren’t
very
different
from
most
students
here
at
Linton
High
School,
including
me.
Many
of
our
conversations
are
gossip(闲话).
I
have
noticed
three
effects
of
gossip:
it
can
hurt
people,
it
can
give
gossipers
a
strange
kind
of
satisfaction,
and
it
can
cause
social
pressures
in
a
group.
An
important
negative
effect
of
gossip
is
that
it
can
hurt
the
person
being
talked
about.
Usually,
gossip
spreads
information
about
a
topic—breakups,
troubles
at
home,
even
dropping
out—that
a
person
would
rather
keep
secret.
The
more
embarrassing
or
shameful
the
secret
is,
the
juicer
the
gossip
it
makes.
Probably
the
worst
type
of
gossip
is
the
absolute
lie.
People
often
think
of
gossipers
as
harmless,
bur
cruel
lies
can
cause
pain.
If
we
know
that
gossip
can
be
harmful,
then
why
do
so
many
of
us
do
it
The
answer
lies
in
another
effect
of
gossip:
the
satisfaction
it
gives
us.
Sharing
the
latest
rumor
can
make
a
person
feel
important
because
he
or
she
knows
something
that
others
don’t.
Similarly,
hearing
the
latest
rumor
can
make
a
person
feel
like
part
of
the
“in
group”.
In
other
words,
gossip
is
satisfying
because
it
gives
people
a
sense
of
belonging
or
even
superiority(优越感).
Gossip
can
also
have
a
third
effect:
it
strengthens
unwritten,
unspoken
rules
about
how
people
should
act.
Professor
David
Wilson
explains
that
gossip
is
important
in
policing
behaviors
in
a
group.
Translated
into
high
school
terms,
this
means
that
if
everybody
you
hang
around
with
is
laughing
at
what
John
wore
or
what
Jane
said,
then
you
can
bet
that
wearing
or
saying
something
similar
will
get
you
the
same
kind
of
negative
attention.
The
do’s
and
don’ts
conveyed
through
gossip
will
never
show
up
in
any
student
handbook.
The
effects
of
gossip
vary
depending
on
the
situation.
The
next
time
you
feel
the
urge
to
spread
the
latest
news,
think
about
why
you
want
to
gossip
and
what
effects
your
“juicy
story”
might
have.
21.An
important
negative
effect
of
gossip
is
that
it
________.
A.
breaks
up
relationships
B.
embarrasses
the
listener
C.
spreads
information
around
D.
causes
unpleasant
experiences
22.In
the
author’s
opinion,
many
people
like
to
gossip
because
it
________.
A.
gives
them
a
feeling
of
pleasure
B.
helps
them
to
make
more
friends
C.
makes
them
better
at
telling
stories
D.
enables
them
to
meet
important
people
23.Professor
David
Wilson
thinks
that
gossip
can
________.
A.
provide
students
with
written
rules
B.
help
people
watch
their
own
behaviours
C.
force
schools
to
improve
student
handbooks
D.
attract
the
police’s
attention
to
group
behaviours
24.What
advice
does
the
author
give
in
the
passage
A.
Never
become
a
gossiper.
B.
Stay
away
from
gossipers.
C.
Don’t
let
gossip
turn
into
lies.
D.
Think
twice
before
you
gossip.
B
Attitudes
toward
new
technologies
often
fall
along
generational
lines.
That
is,
generally,
younger
people
tend
to
outnumber
older
people
on
the
front
end
of
a
technologic
I
shift.
It
is
not
always
the
case,
though.
When
you
look
at
attitudes
toward
driverless
cars
y
there
doesn't
seem
to
be
a
dear
generational
divide.
The
public
overall
is
split
on
whether
they'd
like
to
use
a
driverless
car.
In
a
study
last
year,
of
all
people
surveyed,
48
percent
said
they
wanted
to
ride
in
one,
while
50
percent
did
not.
The
fact
that
attitudes
toward
self-driving
cars
appear
to
be
so
steady
across
generations
suggests
how
varying
the
shift
to
driverless
cars
could
be.
Not
everyone
wants
a
driverless
car
now-and
no
one
can
get
one
yet-but
among
those
who
are
open
to
them,
every
age
group
is
similarly
involved.
Actually,
this
isn't
surprising.
Whereas
older
generations
are
sometimes
unwilling
to
adopt
new
technologies,
driverless
cars
promise
real
value
to
these
age
groups
in
particular.
Older
adults,
especially
those
with
limited
moving
or
difficulty
driving
on
their
own,
are
one
of
the
classic
use-cases
for
driverless
cars.
This
is
especially
interesting
when
you
consider
that
younger
people
are
generally
more
interested
in
travel-related
technologies
than
older
ones.
When
it
comes
to
driverless
cars,
differences
in
attitude
are
easily
noticeable
based
on
factors
not
related
to
age.
College
graduates,
for
example,
are
particularly
interested
in
driverless
cars
compared
with
those
who
have
less
education.
59
percent
of
college
graduates
said
they
would
like
to
use
a
driverless
car
compared
with
38
percent
of
those
with
a
high-school
diploma
or
less.
Where
a
person
lives
matters,
too.
More
people
who
live
in
cities
and
suburbs
said
they
wanted
to
try
driverless
cars
than
those
who
lived
in
rural
areas.
While
there's
reason
to
believe
that
interest
in
8elf-driving
cars
is
going
up
across
the
hoard,
a
person's
age
will
have
little
to
Ho
with
how
self-driving
cars
can
become
mainstream.
Once
driverless
cars
are
actually
available
for
sale,
the
early
adopters
will
be
the
people
who
can
afford
to
buy
them.
25.Which
of
the
following
can
be
the
influence
of
a
new
technology,
according
to
the
passage
A.
It
often
reads
to
great
inventions
in
other
related
fields.
B.
It
contributes
greatly
to
the
advance
of
society
as
a
whole.
C.
It
further
widens
the
gap
between
the
old
and
the
young.
D.It
usually
draws
different
reactions
from
different
age
groups.
26.Why
does
the
driverless
car
appeal
to
some
old
people
A.
It
helps
with
their
moving.
B.
It
saves
their
money
and
energy.
C.
It
adds
to
the
safety
of
their
travel.
D.
It
makes
their
life
more
interesting
27.What
is
likely
to
affect
one's
attitude
toward
the
driverless
car
A.
The
length
of
their
driving
experience.
B.
The
amount
of
training
they
received.
C.
The
location
of
their
living
place.
D.
The
field
of
their
special
interest.
C
George
Aldrich,
whose
official
title
is
chemical
specialist,
works
at
NASA’s
White
Sands
Test
Facility
in
New
Mexico.
He
uses
his
nose
to
protect
astronauts
from
unpleasant
or
harmful
odors
(气味).
His
near
four-decade
career
has
involved
smelling
objects
from
technical
handbooks
to
astronauts’
personal
things.
It’s
crucial
that
all
items
taken
aboard
the
International
Space
Station
(ISS)
are
odorless.
Since
astronauts
are
allowed
to
bring
personal
items
aboard,
all
their
objects
must
be
smell-checked
before
leaving
Earth.
In
a
video
provided
by
Science
Channel,
Aldrich
relates
one
specific
occasion
when
an
astronaut
wanted
to
build
a
ship
in
a
bottle
in
space.
Everything
in
the
ship-building
process
had
to
be
sniffed—right
down
to
the
glue.
Aldrich
and
his
team
are
responsible
for
making
sure
that
objects
are
not
only
odorless
but
also
harmless
to
astronauts.
When
the
ISS
heats
up,
a
process
called
off-gassing
occurs,
which
means
chemicals
flow
out
from
certain
substances
(物质).
Objects
that
would
be
safe
on
Earth
could
give
off
unpleasant
odors
or
become
dangerous
when
exposed
to
high
temperatures
in
the
ISS’s
unique
environment.
Of
course,
humans
aren’t
the
only
testers
or
the
first
to
be
exposed
to
potentially
dangerous
objects.
Before
Aldrich
sticks
his
nose
into
a
substance,
it
has
been
examined
by
machines.
Even
though
machines
can
detect
unsafe
substances,
computers
cannot
tell
exactly
how
things
smell
to
humans.
While
something
could
be
technically
fine,
it
could
be
smelly
to
an
astronaut.
Aldrich’s
nose
is
not
alone
there.
He
is
the
head
of
a
hard-sniffing
team
of
smell
testers.
Together
they
smell
each
object
and
rate
it
on
a
scale
(等级)
of
1
to
4.
According
to
NASA,
1
cannot
be
detected,
and
4
is
considered
not
bearable.
After
the
scientists
conclude
their
tests,
the
scores
are
averaged.
If
an
item
is
rated
more
than
2.4
on
the
scale,
it
fails
the
test
and
is
not
allowed
on
the
flight.
28.Which
can
describe
the
smell
check
from
Paragraph
2
A.
Quite
dangerous.
B.
Extremely
strict
C.
Rather
boring.
D.
Very
complex.
29.What
is
a
threat
to
astronauts’
safety
at
the
ISS
A.
Negative
emotions.
B.
Odor-related
disease.
C.
The
off-gassing
process.
D.
Changes
in
temperature.
30.What
should
be
done
before
Aldrich
and
his
team
start
their
work
A.
Using
machines
to
test
objects.
B.
Having
a
meeting
to
make
the
scale.
C.
Using
computers
to
examine
their
noses.
D.
Listing
potentially
dangerous
substances.
31.What
is
the
text
mainly
about
A.
An
unusual
smell
tester.
B.
Astronauts’
life
at
the
ISS.
C.
Strong
odors
in
a
spaceship.
D.
The
smell
of
personal
items.

Thousands
of
people
began
pouring
into
Pennsylvania
from
other
states.
They
wanted
to
buy
lottery
tickets(彩票).
The
tickets
cost
only
$
0.9
each.
But
that
small
spending
could
bring
them
a
reward
of
$
90
million
.That
was
the
second
largest
lottery
jackpot
(积累奖金)in
history.
More
than
87
million
tickets
were
bough
t
for
the
Pennsylvania
lottery
drawing.
Those
who
bought
tickets
had
to
choose
seven
numbers
from
1
to
80.The
chance
of
winning
was
one
in
9.6
million,
but
that
little
chance
certainly
didn’t
affect
ticket
sales.
In
the
last
few
days
before
the
drawing,
tickets
were
sold
at
the
unbelievable
rate
of
500
per
second.
Experts
say
many
people
buy
lottery
tickets
because
they
just
want
to
have
a
piece
of
the
action.
Others
say
the
lottery
is
a
stock
market
for
poor
people.
It
allows
them
to
dream
about
wealth
they’ll
probably
never
have.
But
many
people
believe
lotteries
are
no
better
than
legalized
gambling.
Some
critics
note
that
most
people
who
play
are
poor
and
may
not
be
able
to
afford
the
tickets.
There
are
also
many
addicts
who
take
the
game
seriously.
They
may
pour
their
life
savings
into
lottery
tickets.
Some
clubs
have
been
formed
to
help
them
kick
the
habit.
Politicians
like
lotteries
because
they
provide
money
that
would
otherwise
have
to
come
from
new
taxes.
The
profits
from
lotteries
are
usually
used
to
pay
for
education
or
programs
for
senior
citizens.
But
critics
say
this
arrangement
just
allows
states
to
legalize
vice,
under
the
name
of
social
progress.
Whether
you
regard
stock
lotteries
right
or
not,
you
cannot
refuse
to
accept
their
extreme
popularity
with
many
Americans.
32.Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
according
to
the
passage
A.Buying
lotteries
may
help
people
become
wealthy
overnight.
B.
Politicians
like
lotteries
because
they
don’t
have
to
pay
extra
taxes.
C.The
profits
from
lotteries
are
usually
used
for
the
public.
D.
Some
critics
don’t
like
lotteries
because
many
poor
people
waste
money
on
them.
33.In
just
one
hour
in
the
last
few
days,
the
Pennsylvania
lottery
sold
tickets
totaling_______.
A.$
16.2
million
B.$
38.88
million
C.$
19.6
million
D.$
87

34.
The

word
in
the
last
paragraph
refers
to__________.
A.
something
profiyable
B.
something
challenging
C.
something
immoral
D.something
easy
35.
What
is
the
main
purpose
of
the
passage
A.
To
introduce
the
lotteries
in
Pennsylvania.
B.
To
persuade
people
not
to
buy
lotteries.
C.
To
show
the
drawbacks
of
buying
lotteries.
D.
To
tell
us
the

七选五
(共5小题;每2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A
new
report
says
plastics
are
responsible
for
$13
billion
in
damage
to
the
oceans
and
the
undersea
environment.
The
findings
were
announced
recently
at
a
United
Nations
conference.36..
Plastic
thrown
away
carelessly
makes
its
way
into
rivers
and
other
waterways.
37..
After
a
while,
it
collects
in
the
sea.
And
plastic
never
goes
away.
Plastic
is
not
biodegradable—destroyed
by
bacteria
or
natural
processes.
Instead,
it
just
breaks
up
into
smaller
pieces
over
time.
The
oceans
contain
a
lot
of
chemicals
and
other
pollutants(污染物).38.That
means
harmful
material
may
get
into
our
food
supply.
39..
Human
beings
cause
pollution
and
they
can
take
steps
to
stop
it.
They
can
use
fewer
single
use
product
containers
and
throw
plastics
away
correctly.
Plastic
recycling
programs
also
works—where
old
bottles
and
other
plastics
are
collected,
broken
down
and
used
to
make
new
products.
We
could
reuse
bottles
in
our
households
many
times
if
we
wish
to,
rather
than
end
it
after
the
first
use.
We
could,
when
we
get
rid
of
that
plastic,
recycle
it
and
reuse
it,
which
replaces
the
need
for
raw
materials.
The
report
also
calls
on
companies
to
improve
methods
for
using
plastics.
40..
And
it
calls
for
information
about
the
way
plastic
is
thrown
out
or
removed
from
use.
By
putting
a
new
value
on
plastic,
industry
has
a
special
reason
to
clean
up
the
environment.
But
all
of
the
companies
must
join
to
deal
with
the
problem.
A.
Then,
fish
may
eat
the
plastics.
B.
But
people
can
make
a
big
difference.
C.
Plastics
should
be
gathered
together
and
reused.
D.
It
is
convenient
to
use
plastic
bags
in
everyday
life.
E.
It
asks
for
them
to
better
measure
and
control
plastic
use.
F.
The
plastic
eventually
reaches
coastal
areas
and
ocean
waters.
G.
The
report
tells
about
harm
to
sea
life
and
what
might
be
done
to
improve
the
situation.

In
a
world
where
comparisons
happen
non-stop,
it
is
difficult
to
look
outside
yourself
and
to
ever
be
___41__
with
who
you
are.
There's
always
someone
who's
a
bit
___42___.
The
only
solution
is
to
reach
___43__
and
measure
against
what
Warren
Buffett
calls
your
own
inner
yardstick.
There
is
no
more
___44___
measure
for
comparison
than
who
you
were
yesterday,
last
week
or
last
decade,
when
you
were
at
your
___45___.
Nothing
useful
ever
comes
from
comparison
to
others.
____46___
you
see
yourself
as
better
than
someone
and
you
get
___47___,
or
you
see
someone
else
as
better
than
you
and
you
feel
like
all
your
hard
work
is
for
____48__.
It
is
a
fool's
game.
Not
one
of
us
is
___49__
alike.
The
only
direct
and
honest
comparison
is
____50__
yourself.
Everything
else
is
apples
to
oranges.
My
opinion
is
that
you
are
only
____51___
to
compare
yourself
to
someone
else
if
their
life
____52__
is
the
same
as
your
own.
Good
luck
finding
that
match.
And
one
thing
is
for
sure.
No
matter
how
hard
you
work
and
how
___53___
you
are,
there
will
always
be
someone
who
can
run
a
little
faster,
jump
a
little
higher,
score
a
little
better
or
look
a
little
nicer
in
a
swimsuit.
And
if
there's
not,
you
can
____54__
someone
is
coming
up
fast
behind
you.
So
how
can
you
always
win
in
life
Become
your
best
___55___.
Having
an
image
of
your
most
recent
past
limits
is
the
perfect
thing
to
___56___
you
to
the
next
level.
If
you
ran
7
flights
of
stairs
yesterday,
then
do
8
today.
Who
___57____
if
the
guy
next
to
you
did
15
It
doesn't
make
a
bit
of
___58___.
You
are
a
more
fit
person
today
than
you
were
yesterday.
Your
own
___59___
is
all
you
need.
If
you
____60__
to
a
slightly
higher
standard
of
yourself
every
day,
you
will
always
be
at
the
top
of
your
game.

I’ll
