Ⅱ.阅读理解
I am Peter Hodes, a volunteer stem cell courier. Since March 2012, I?ve done 89 trips—of those, 51 have been abroad. I have 42 hours to carry stem cells(干细胞) in my little box because I?ve got two ice packs and that?s how long they last. In all, from the time the stem cells are harvested from a donor(捐献者) to the time they can be implanted in the patient, we?ve got 72 hours at most. So I am always conscious of time.
I had one trip last year where I was caught by a hurricane in America. I picked up the stem cells in Providence, Rhode Island, and was meant to fly to Washington then back to London. But when I arrived at the check-in desk at Providence, the lady on the desk said:“Well, I?m really sorry, I?ve got some bad news for you—there are no flights from Washington.” So I took my box and put it on the desk and I said:“In this box are some stem cells that are urgently needed for a patient—please, please, you?ve got to get me back to the United Kingdom.” She just dropped everything. She arranged for a flight on a small plane to be held for me,re-routed(改道) me through Newark and got me back to the UK even earlier than originally scheduled.
For this courier job, you?re consciously aware that in that box you?ve got something that is potentially going to save somebody?s life.
1. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “courier” in Paragraph 1?
A.Provider. B.Delivery man.

2. Why does Peter have to complete his trip within 42 hours?
A.He cannot stay away from his job too long.
B.The donor can only wait for that long.
C.The operation needs that much time.
D.The ice won?t last any longer.
3. Which flight did the woman put Peter on first?
A.To London. B.To Newark.
C.To Providence. D.To Washington.

第二节:读后续写
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Some people are just bound to be failures. That?s the way some adults look at troubled kids. Maybe you?ve heard the saying, “A bird with a broken wing will never fly as high.” T. J. Ware was made to feel this way almost every day in school.?
By high school, T. J. was the most celebrated troublemaker in his town. Teachers would feel uneasy when they saw his name posted on their class lists for the next term. I met T. J. for the first time at a weekend leadership retreat. All the students at school had been invited to sign up for ACE training, a programme designed to have students become more involved in their communities. When I showed up to lead their first activity, the community leaders gave me this overview of the attending students: “We have a total range of students represented today, from the student body president to T. J.Ware, the boy with the longest arrest record in the history of town.”
At the start of the training, T. J. was standing outside the circle of students, with that “go ahead, impress me” look on his face. But slowly, the interactive games drew him in. The ice really melted when the groups started building a list of positive and negative things that had occurred at school that year. T. J. had some definite thoughts on those situations. The other students in T. J.?s group welcomed his comments. All of a sudden, T. J. felt like a part of the group, and before long he was being treated like a leader.
The next day, T. J. was very active in all the activities. Finally, he joined the Homeless Project team. The other students on the team were impressed with his passionate concern and ideas. They elected T. J. co-chairman of the team. The very first communitywide service project was to be a giant food drive, organized by the Homeless Project team. These teachers couldn?t believe that the principal would allow this important plan to stay in the incapable hands of T. J. Ware.

Ⅲ.第一节
One possible version:
Dear Principal,?
I?m Li Hua, a foreign student studying in your school. I?m writing to suggest that a first aid course and some practice be organized in our school. Admittedly, first aid is vital and performing first aid quickly and properly does save lives. For example, when a man has a heart attack, a knowledge of first aid can make a real difference. Besides, not only can a first aid course equip us with the knowledge to help people in an accident, but it can provide us with many more chances to practise first aid treatments as well.?
In short, a first aid course at the school is a necessary part of our education. I would appreciate it if you could consider my suggestion.
Yours sincerely,?
Li Hua?
第二节
One possible version:
These teachers reminded Coggshall, the principal, “He has an arrest record as long as your arm. He?ll probably steal half the food. Never run such a risk.” Mr Coggshall, however, reminded them that the purpose of the programme was to uncover any positive passion that a student had and strengthen its practice until true changes can take place. He also said that T. J. was a good example in any case. He brought out his potential and his changes showed what a miracle could happen on a once troublesome kid. The teachers left shaking their heads with distrust, firmly convinced that it was bound to fail.?
Two weeks later, T. J. hit the local newspaper with a full-page article and he led many other projects successfully one after another. T. J. inspired others so much with his enthusiasm that more were motivated to join in and show their concern. His ideas and comments were appreciated by students and finally approved by teachers as well. To follow his practice, many others involved themselves in such meaningful activities. T. J.?s example reminds us that a bird with a broken wing only needs mending. And once it has healed, it can fly higher than the rest. T. J. got a job. He became productive and he is flying quite nicely these days.
