Comic book sales have been in a steady(稳定的) decline(下降) for nearly a decade. It is reported that the number of retailers(零销商) offering comics has ___75___ by 75% in the U.S. A number of publishers say that most companies are currently turning to Hollywood since several of them could ___76___ support themselves on comic book sales alone.
This is a ___77___ since the movie industry, like so many other industries in America, is also hurting. Starved(急需)for money, studios are more willing to spend money on a project likely to draw big numbers (i.e. Batman, Spiderman) rather than a smaller. In this way, the industry will continue to shrink(缩水).
?Like so many things in life, the comic book industry’s problem isn’t black and white. The industry’s current troubles boil down to two simple things: the economic recession(衰退) and an inability to draw in new readers.
The recession is pretty much unfixable(不可修复) right now, at least as far as comic books are concerned. Until consumers have more money, they would rather spend more money on more important things like groceries (食品,杂货)or an electric bill rather than___78___ comic books.
However, that’s not the only problem. For almost thirty years, publishers have paid more and more attention____79___ adult-centered concepts(概念) and stories, while giving up titles for younger audiences. This is all well and good, as it keeps readers interested in the long term rather than “growing out of it,” but unfortunately, they aren’t drawing in new, younger readers.
Luckily, the new wave of digital technology has the potential(潜力) to dramatically reduce the cost of publishing, thus paving the way for new, smaller companies to take a shot at the medium. Will digital comics prove successful? Only ___80___ will tell.
75. A. reused B. reduced C. required D. returned
76. A. at last B.be likely to C.so far D.no longer
77. A. result B.start C.solution D. problem
78. A. publish B.buy C.write D.sell
79. A. in B.on C.at D.to
80. A.time B.money C. technology D.publishers
C. Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words. (在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺,每空格限填一词,首字母已给。)
British films and TV series are really popular around the world these years. Films and dramas such as Harry Potter, Downton Abbey(《唐顿庄园》), Sherlock and Black Mirror have attracted a large audience. As a result, more and more people go to Britain to see the settings (布景)in the films and on TV.

Besides, a lot of tourists visit Platform Nine and Three-Quarters at King’s Cross railway station in London and take photos with the trolley (手推车) h___82___ in the wall.
?Many tourists also go to Highclere Castle (海克利尔城堡), the setting for Downton Abbey. A hotel in Britain provides meals, afternoon tea and bedrooms s___83___to the settings in the drama.
??????????Settings in the BBC mini series Sherlock are also very popular. Most of them are l___84___ in London. 221B Baker Street and the n ___85___ Sherlock Holmes Museum are must-sees for Sherlock lovers.
?In addition to these settings, Britain is also planning to build theme parks (主题公园). For example, it is reported that a Sherlock Holmes theme park is going to be built in Portsmouth (朴茨茅斯), England. It will show Sherlock’s life in Baker Street in London.
?According to r___86___, almost one in three tourists visiting Britain will go to an historic house or castle because of the worldwide success of British films and TV dramas. The visitors spend a total of around £6.5 billion during their stay. More and more Chinese visitors go s___87___ in Britain. The number has doubled in the past three years. Halloween: A Scary Change for China?
Halloween falls on October 31st. It is one of the favourite festivals for children in the West. People dress up in different costumes (化妆服装)like a witch(巫婆), a ghost(鬼) or a skeleton (骷髅). The children go to houses to say “Trick or treat!” The game is so fun. Before, if a child is bad, he or she will get a trick like having a stone in his or her bag instead of (代替) some candy. Nowadays, no one gets tricks. Every child can receive lots of candy. Parties are also popular in the evening. People get to parties in costumes and play different games. People also listen to ghost stories and watch scary(恐怖的) movies.
Halloween is a holiday with a long history. It has become more and more popular among young people in China in the past few years.
If you were out and about on October 31, you probably noticed that there seemed to be many more of the frightening looking creatures scaring(使...恐惧)up fun on Shanghai streets this year. Not everyone, however, is happy about the increasing popularity of Halloween in our city.
Actually, Halloween is a holiday offends(冒犯)some people, even in countries where it is widely popular. It is not surprising that stories of the dead rising and walking among us might offend certain religious(宗教)and cultural values of any country.
Furthermore, costumes are often designed to be scary and extremely unpleasant. This particualr feature of Halloween is exactly what upset some elderly passengers on the metro a few nights ago. A group of local university students, who were heading to a Halloween party , had dressed up like zombies(僵尸). Their frightening appearance shocked the elderly passengers, causing them to become very upset. Several female passengers were scared and shouted.
Microbloggers later discussed the thing online, expressing mixed opinions. On one hand, some see it as an example of young people showing a lack of care and disrespect towards the people around them. On the other hand, others see it as a harmless way to have fun.
Regardless(不管)of one’s judgement of that particular story, we can all agree that this is an obvious case of both culture differences and generation gaps. China is a country that values(重视)respect for dead ancestors(祖先). It’s quite likely that some Chinese people see certain Halloween traditions as showing little or no respect for the dead.
China is changing rapidly, and many of those changes are due to outside influences. As the country accepts the values and cultural celebrations(庆祝活动)of foreign countries, what happens to traditional values and celebrations? How do generations, which are becoming so different, continue to respect and understand on another? Something to think about while you eat your Halloween candy.
88. Nowadays, do children receive a stone or some candy?
