English is a language with many confusing rules. Before the middle of the 5th century, people in Britain all spoke Celtic. Then two Germanic groups from the European mainland occupied Britain. Old English consisted of a mixture of their languages.
However , after the Normans defeated England in 1066, French was spoken in this country together with English, which resulted in even more words with similar words.
Modern English included many Latin and Greek words. Pronunciation also went through huge changes during this period. It is certain that this process will continue, and people will keep inventing new words and new ways of saying things.HomeworkWrite a short summary of English and its history according to what we have learned today. Thanks for your attention!
