1. How many people speak English in the world today?
1) There are about 1500 million people speaking English as their first, second or foreign language in the world today.
2) It is said that 350 million people in Asia can use English, which is the total number of people in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.
It is said that there about 300 million people speak English in the world, and another 2 billion people know English to some extent.
2. Do the English native-speakers speak the same English? Can they understand each other?
1) They don’t speak the same English, but they can understand each other.
2) Not all the English native-speakers in different English-speaking counties speak the same English, but they can understand each other even though they don't speak the same kind of English.
3. Does English have a variety in spoken and written?
1)Yes. English has a variety of spoken and written forms in different countries.
2) I know that there are two major groups of English: the British English and the American English.

II. 复习直接引语与间接引语的用法:如何将命令与请求或者建议的直接引语改为间接引语。
复习:在转换时需要注意:
时态的变化:从句通常要往后推一个时态。
can, may → could, might,
must → had to,也可不变,
should, ought to, had better 等可不变。
直接引语为客观真理,时态不变。
有特定的过去时间状语时,也可不变。
时间状语变化:
now → then,
today → that day,
tonight → that night,
yesterday → the day before,
this month → that month,
last week → the week before,
three years ago → three years before,

代词、动词、地点状语的变化:

直接引语为陈述句变为间接引语时将直接引语变为由that引导的宾语从句。

本节课重点:复习将表示命令、请求、建议的直接引语改为间接引语的用法
表示请求或命令的祈使句由直接引语变为间接引语时,要特别注意以下几点:
1. 要将祈使句中省去的人称代词要补上,将原句中的动词变为动词不定式,并在不定式的前面加上ask, order, tell等转述动词;如果祈使句为否定式,在不定式的前面加上not。

2. 如果祈使句是命令,间接引语常用的动词有:tell / order / ask / request 等,后常接sb. (not) to do sth.。

“suggested + 宾语从句 (或动名词)” 结构
He said, “Let’s go to the park.”
→ He suggested (our) going to the park.
→ He suggested that we should go to the park.
“Let’s go camping this weekend.” Tom said to us.
→Tom suggested (us) going camping that weekend.
→ Tom suggested that we should go camping that weekend.
【温馨提示】
表示建议、要求、劝告的祈使句都可以用此句型:
“suggested + 宾语从句 (或动名词)” 结构
2) 间接引语中引述动词不能用say。
3) 如果祈使句是否定形式,不定式前要加上否定词never或not。
4) 祈使句中的please在间接引语中必须省去。
Eg. He said, “Come here please.”
→ He asked me to go there.
He said, “Don’t shut the window!”
