Eat insects and fight world hunger. This theme has been coming up in recent years on World Food Day. That’s when leaders of many countries and concerned organizations set goals to find ways to feed the whole world. Eating insects is one major way to do this. Around two billion people already eat insects. That’s more than one quarter of the world’s population. Most of these people live in Africa, Asia, and South America. More than two thousand species are able to be eaten. Insects are a very good source of protein---better than the regular animal meat and much better than food that comes from plants. Most of these insects are still collected in the wild. Then they are prepared and eaten at home, or they’re sold at markets. Insects are an excellent possibility to end hunger, since there are plenty of them. They’re also healthy, and they can be raised on insect farms. A main problem to overcome, though, is many people’s strong dislike for insects.
