Every generation of teenagers is expert at finding new ways of driving their parents mad. When I was young, it was a simple matter of under-age drinking, unsuitable boyfriends or long conversations on the telephone, which could be easily seen by the entire family.
These days the technology of parent-crazing is absolutely more complicated(复杂的). Today's teenagers conduct their rebellions (叛逆)online, watching YouTube clips, posting private images on their Facebook pages and seeking friends with strange hobbies, which are enough to freeze their parents' blood.
Danah Boyd, a Harvard academic, spent seven years being absorbed in teenage culture, attempting to explain young people to the adults who worry about them. Boyd interviewed 166 adolescents about their online lives, hung out with teens in public places and spent countless hours observing teens. From these interviews, she intended to explain the aspects of teenaged online behaviour that adults find most unacceptable.
Teenagers are normally considered by the society as "public threats or targets easily harmed". However, the youths interviewed by Boyd argued that they would prefer to interact directly, but that their parents’ concern for their safety and the loss of public spaces limited them to the home. The Internet has become their alternative (可替代的)meeting place.
Many writers couldn't help reading Boyd's findings. Boyd's analysis of teenage life is realistic and profound. After reading much of what she discovers, most parents can give a sigh of relief The kids are all right, but they want to be understood. They are not so different from their parents after all.
24. The author writes the first two paragraphs to .
A. express the public's concern about the Internet
B. explain how complicated the society has become
C. warn us of the danger the Internet brings to people
D. show today's teenage rebellions are different from the past
25. What's the author's attitude to Boyd's research?
A. favorable B. doubtful C. indifferent D. critical
26. According to Danah Boyd,
A. young people have lost interest in public spaces
B. parents are partly responsible for teenaged online behavior
C. surfing the Internet at home should be limited most of the time
D. all the children are actually free from the bad effect of the Internet
27. What's the purpose of the author's writing the passage?
A. To discuss how modem technology influences teenagers.
B. To introduce Danah Boyd's research on networked teenagers.
C. To analyze the reasons why teens are lost in the Internet
D. To criticize those parents who misunderstand their children.

Demand for the Chinese tech company's devices(设备)is red hot even though the country's overall market for smartphones is getting smaller. Huawei's China sales rocketed more than 20% in the final quarter of 2018, and experts say that's partly due to the US government's global campaign against the company.
"The latest tension (紧张关系)between the US and China raised the patriotism(爱国主 义)in Chinese consumers,” said Jusy Hong, an analyst at research firm IHS Markit.
He pointed out that some Chinese companies encouraged employees to buy Huawei phones late last year. The moves were a gesture of support after the firm's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada in early December at the request of the United States.
Huawei's booming sales show how major parts of its business continue to increase even as the United States tries to persuade other countries to shut Huawei products out of 5G wireless networks and pursues(追究)criminal chaises against it The company expects to overtake Samsung as the world's biggest smartphone maker by next year.
Huawei sold 30 million phones in China in the last three months of 2018 nearly three times as many as Applc(AAPL), according to data published this week by research firms Canalys and IDC. Apple's sales plunged almost 20%.
Huawei's success in China, the world's largest smartphone market, is more than about geopolitics(地缘政治).Chinese consumers love its flagship, high -end- phones because they have great cameras? cutting-edge technology and cost less than the latest iPhones, according to analysts. And by offering a selection of cheaper phones, Huawei is able to target a bigger market.
It also benefited from the troubles this year at ZTE (ZTCOF)), a rival Chinese smartphone and telecommunications equipment maker. ZTE was banned by the US government from buying vital American parts for months last year.
28. Why did Huawei's China sales increase greatly according to the article?
A. Because the company's devices are always popular worldwide.
B. Because Chinese consumers' patriotism was aroused
C. Because the government encourages people to buy Huawei devices.
D. Because the country's overall market for smartphones is getting bigger.
29. What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A. Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada due to the US's request.
B. All Chinese companies showed their support to Huawei with their purchase.
C. Jusy Hong thought the United States arrested Huawei's chief financial officer.
D. Jusy Hong thought the arrest of Huawei's chief financial officer is unfair.
30. How do you understand the underlined word in the fifth paragraph?
A. increased greatly by. B. reduced greatly to.
C. dropped greatly by. D. remained steady.
31. Why is Huawei's success in China more than about geopolitics?
A. Because Huawei has the largest smartphone market in the world.
B. Because Huawei’s success is only limited within China mainland.
C. Because Huawei has the ability to target a bigger market in the world.
D. Because Chinese consumers are quite satisfied with Huawei smartphones.
D
Rising sea levels, extremes of weather and more droughts and floods will all destroy the world's energy systems as global warming picks up its pace, a new report has found.
Energy companies are quite often cited as part of the problem of climate change, generating the lion's share of the world's greenhouse gas emissions (排放),amounting to around 60% of the total. But they will also suffer as global warming worsens.
Many large plants( 工厂)are particularly threatened by floods because they lack protection from sudden storms. Electricity distribution(分配)networks are also likely to be affected.
The vulnerability(脆弱) of energy systems to natural disasters was shown clearly when the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan had to be closed down following the 2011 tsunami(海啸).which encouraged governments around the world to review their nuclear policies.
The World Energy Council(WEC) urged generators (companies that produce electricity)to examine their vulnerability to climate change, saying that with suitable adaptation the worst of the problems could be avoided.
Christoph Frei, secretary general of WEC. said governments must play a key role in ensuring the world’s important infrastructure (基础实施)is protected. Climate change is certain to affect the energy sector (领域).We need powerful policy frameworks(框架)to unlock the long-term investments that are urgently needed to deliver the future we want. Leadership will be required at all levels.
Despite efforts to increase energy efficiency, the amount of energy used globally is still set to rise. But the effects of this could be reduced if companies spend more energy on renewable and low-carbon forms of energy.
However, there is little sign so far that energy companies around the world have got this message. Fossil fuels continues to dominate(支配)new investment投资)in energy generation capacity, according to the International Energy Agency. Besides, we have failed in creating a global price for carbon emissions, which could help to reverse(颠倒)this trend.
Another key focus must be energy distribution networks, according to the report, as new technology can be used to make them “smart", saving energy by distributing energy from generators to users in more intelligent ways.
“The time has come to get real about the challenges facing the energy sector. " Frei said.
Philipes Joubert, executive chairman of WEC's global electricity initiative, and former president of Alstom Power, said large companies are taking note. “Leading business in this sector are increasingly realizing that business as usual is no longer acceptable.
32. The energy companies are also sufferers because
A. they are responsible for climate change.
B. their greenhouse gas emissions make up 60% of the total.
C. Some sudden natural disasters have a great effect on them
D. the government provides no protection for them.
33. What does the underlined phrase in the last paragraph refer to?
A. noticing b. missing C. writing D. arguing
34. What is the author's attitude towards the present energy systems?
A. positive B. concerned C. optimistic D. uncertain
35. What can be the best title for this passage?
A. Energy companies are to blame for their behavior.
B. Renewable and low-carbon forms of energy will be a trend.
C. Energy distribution networks must be smarter.
D. The world's energy systems suffer from climate change.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余选项.
Children start out as natural scientists, eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy, as there's no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. 36
Give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults typically wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. 37 , children can give more logical, complete and creative answers.
Watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a science discussion, don t jump in with "Thai's right" or "Very good". 38 . But in talking about science, quick praise can
signal that discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by saying "That's interesting or "I have never thought of it that way before", or coining up with more questions or ideas. Never force a child to think. 39 , as children are always thinking, without your telling them to.
What's more, giving them freedom to think can turn a conversation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want, in as few words as possible, so that he will be a smaller target for your disagreement.
40 Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children can learn from a book or a television program. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass (放大镜),and they'll understand why you want them to wash before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates (蒸发),set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.
A. It doesn't make sense
B. Listen to their questions
C. Teach them by examples
D. You only have to share your children's curiosity
E. It began with a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours
F. When adults increase their “wait time" to three seconds or more
G. These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behavior

M: So everyone who works here kind of has something they love to do, something they are
really good at. For example, Andy, he loves movies. And Cathy, she has her music. She just
loves her work so much. And you have your business, which is so cool.
W: So you don’t have one thing you love?
M: Well, I think I know what it is.
W: Tell me, that’s great.
M: I want to go back to school. I love learning (15).
W: That’s a wonderful idea.
M: But I still want to be a student doctor here (15). Is that OK?
W: Of course. We can make it work.
M: That’s such a relief. I was still so scared to ask you.

Along with the subjects, like reading and mathematics, school children at Robert W. Coleman
Elementary School are learning yoga exercises. The aim is to provide them with better tools
to deal with the daily struggles they face (17). Principle Thompson brought the programme to
Coleman in 2010. A few of her students are homeless but others live in homes with no electricity.
Some have little or no food to eat, others are related to victims of gun violence. The Mindful
Moment Room is a place where students do deep breathing exercises and clear their minds. They
come to learn how they can better react to situations (18) and how to calm themselves. They
can also speak with Mindful Moment specialists about what caused their teachers to send them
there. Principle Thompson believes that yoga is responsible for the drop in leaving school at her
school. Over the past year, there was no dropping out of school at Coleman compared to four
during the 2013-14 school year. And students are almost never sent to her offices for bad
behavior any more (19). For the past half century, yoga has been studied as a possible treatment
for anxiety and depression. As for students, there’s some scientific evidence that yoga can
help people but more is needed (20). However education expert Patricia Jennings told New
York Times that these practices don’t eliminate poverty and may not work for everybody
(20).
