Importance:All the verb phrases and the target language in this period.
Difficulties: 1.掌握“Would like to” “You could”句型。
2.掌握一定量的动词短语的用法。

Teaching steps:
1. Lead in(课堂导入)
T: Let’s watch a video. Answer who are they?
(Students watch the video.)
S1: ….
S2: ….
S3: Volunteering! / Volunteers!
(如果学生回答有难度,老师可以多给一些提示,如There are people who offer their time to help others who are in need or in trouble. What do we call them?)
(学生回答完之后,教师把“volunteer” 板书在黑板上,并解析“志愿者”)
T:Have you ever been a volunteer ?
Ss: Yes /No.
T: As a volunteer , what could you do to help others ?
S1: …
S2: …
T: Yes, we could do many things for people in need.
Now let’s open your books and turn to page 9. Let’s see what we could do to help people.

2. Presentation
a. New words
Show the pictures about the new words and teach students the new words.
Play a word game.
教学设计说明:游戏不仅可以出现在小学课堂,它更应该出现在初中课堂,来缓解学生对知识难点学习的压力,营造轻松活泼的课堂气氛。
b. Target language
1.)T: Now, look at the picture. What could we do to help people?
S1: We could help sick people in the hospital.
S2: We could cheer them up. (教师板书重点词组并解析这些词组)
The teacher shows other pictures. Teach the following sentences the same way.
We could help plant trees.
We could help to clean up the city parks.
We could help young kids learn English.
We could volunteer in an after-school study program to teach kids.
We could help the old people.
We could help stop hunger.
We could help give out food at the food bank.(教师分别板书各句中的词组)
2.)Ask some students to use the target language to answer “What could we do to help people?”.

3.)Read the phrases together.
3. Work on activity 1a
T: Now, look at the picture. What can you see? (To S1).
S1: Two students, a boy and a girl.
S2: Volunteer Day!
S3: Some signs on the wall.
S4: …
T: So from this information, we can guess that they are talking about volunteering to help others. Now let’s read the dialogue and the signs together.
Ss: I hope to work outside. You could help to clean up the city parks.
Then ask, “What other ways could you help people? Write your answers in your book.
(教师可以四处走动,以帮助学生改正错误,或者提供帮助。)

(动词词组是这节的重点,所以鼓励学生多说出动词短语出来,把重要的板书在黑板上,并反复朗读操练。)

T: Now look at Activity 1b. Let’s listen to the conversation.
教学设计说明:在volunteer这个背景下,操练了很多的动词词组后学生已经对这节的话题比较熟悉,所以产生了想要看看别人是怎么做的想法,带着好奇的心理进入听力部分。
4. Listening 1b
Listen for the first time and number the ways the boy and the girl could help others.
1. Check Ss’ answers.
2. Have Ss listen again and fill in the blanks.
3. Have Ss fill in the blanks individually.
4. Have Ss read the sentences as a class.
5. According to the listening, have Ss identify ways to express hope and to offer help.

教学设计说明:原听力任务比较简单,这里加入一个听并填空,加深了难度,让学生能更多的注意到听力的细节加深对听力的了解。
5. Practice(1c)
T: Now let’s practice. Have a similar conversation with your partner according to the information in 1b. Then I’d like you to share your dialogues with the class.
在学生开始对话之前在屏幕上展出句型:
A: I’d like to help others.
B: You could …
Two minutes later, T checks their conversations one by one.
教学设计说明:通过编对话并反复操练,巩固学生所学的句型和动词词组,同时也锻炼了口语能力,为后面课时的学习做好铺垫。
