Passage B
Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country road in their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you. When you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you can't always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

Passage C
(2019中考科普环保类选练)
Think of all the things you throw away:juice bottles, soda cans, candy covers. It? adds up.How much rubbish do you produce? Americans throw away about 1 ton of rubbish per person every year. That's 2000 pounds of rubbish! Most of the rubbish gets covered in big holes in the round called landfills(垃圾掩埋法).

??? This leads to a second reason people recycle:it saves energy.Recycling old aluminum cans take much less energy than making new aluminum. To make new aluminum, you need to mine metal ore(矿石) from the ground, remove it,and refine it,into a finished metal.
??? Recycling also protects valuable land.By recycling,we produce less rubbish. That means fewer landfills are needed for dropping our rubbish.Because metals are some what costly to make, they are the world's most recycled materials.About two-thirds of all steel(钢) is recycled.
??? Almost all drink cans are made of aluminum.Americans recycle about one-third of their used aluminum cans.Empty cans are sent to special factories. There, they are cleaned, melted, and made into new pieces of aluminum.
??? Americans use lots of paper — mostly in the form of newspapers, magazines, and cardboard boxes. In fact, paper takes up more space in landfills than any other material.

What’s the meaning of “dark horse”? It’s someone who wins when no one expects it. Han Xiao’peng took China’s first gold on snow. He became an Olympic “dark horse” last Thursday by winning the gold medal in men’s freestyle aerial skiing(自由式滑雪空中技巧) at Turin in Italy. He made two almost perfect jumps for the highest score. But more important, Han’s gold was the country’s first ever in a snow sport. In 2002, China’s Yang Yang won the gold for speed skating at the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, US. Just because Han’s win was unexpected doesn’t mean that he didn’t work hard.

People came from far and wide. They looked at the line and squinted at it. They even put their noses to the ground and scratched their heads.
“How can you make a line shorter without erasing any part of it?” the people in the crowd asked each other. Some of them tried. The dressmaker kicked dirt(泥土) over the line to hide it. The farmer poured water over the line to make it disappear. None of these efforts worked, and the people went home disappointed. Everyone was puzzled about how to solve this new riddle.

“Now,good king,” the baker smiled,“your line is shorter.”

The first time I ever really noticed a disabled person, I was studying in the third grade. I saw some disabled people before, but I never really knew or cared about what those persons go through.
When a new student arrived in my third grade class, I thought it would just be a common student, but this student was different. His name was Derek and he had autism . He sometimes had random outbursts(随意发作) during class and we would stand there, doing nothing because we didn't know why he was doing that. When he sat down at desk, we would try to get away from him. After class, we would play jokes on each other, imitating(模仿) Derek, and laughing about it.
Then one day,Derek's mom came to our class and talked with us. She told us that Derek wasn't just having random outbursts--he was trying to communicate. Then she chose a volunteer and filled that person's mouth with soft sweets. When we found the volunteer had great trouble in trying to speak, the mother explained that was what Derek was going through every day. We all understood her meaning.
After this talk,no one tried to make fun of Derek or run away from him. We accepted his outbursts in class and he became one of our friends. Having a class with Derek has taught me to have an open mind to those who are different from us. My experience in having an autistic classmate has provided me with a good lesson.
