Teaching procedures and ways;
Step1:Lead-in
Play the "Happy birthday to you"song for students,and ask: Do you like this song? Can you sing it?
Good,tomorrow is my birthday.I want to have a party. Can you come to my party ?and write it on the blackboard.And say:Today let's learn unit5 Can you come to my party?I invite my friends to my party.Do you want to know my friends? Yes.
Step2.Presentation.
T:Show the picture of Section A.Now,let's look at the picture and see how many good friends I have.
Ss:One ,two,three......seven.
T:Good ,I have seven good friends,but do you want to know their names?Please listen to the tape and then tell me their names .
Play the tape for students.
T;;Ok,who can tell me the names?
S;Ted, Wilson, Kay, Tim, Anna,Jenny and Carlos.
T:Great.Teach students to read the names.
Step3 Vocabulary and Listening
Show students the picture on page 25,and ask students to look at the picture first and find out Jenny and Ted.
T:What didTed say?
S:He said ,"I'm sorry, I can't. I have to help my parents."
T:And how about Jenny?...
Ask students to matchthe words with the pictures.Then check the answers.
T:Just now we matched the pictures with the actions,but who are going to do those?Let's go on with 1b.Listen and write the names next to each person.
Play the tape once again and then check the answers.
Step4 Pair work
T:Well, class!How many people are going to my party?Can Tim go to my party?
S:No,he can't.He has to study for a test.
Good.Ask some students to read 1c.Then tell students to make conversations according to the sample conversation.Remind them to give a reason if they say no to the invitation.
Step5 Listening
T:In this listening part,there are five conversations.Call attention to the five sentences in activity 2a.Ask a student to read these sentences to the class.Play the tape for the first time.Students only listen.Then another time,ask students to circle the right answers.Then check the answers.
T:Jeffy and May can't go to the party,what are the reasons?Let's listen again and do activity 2b.Play the tape and ask students to fill in the three numbers as they listen.
Play the tape again and check the answers.
Step6 Groupwork
Call attention to the reasons listed in activity 2b.Ask students to think of other reasons to say no and write them in the blaanks.
Then ask studentA invite your partner to do something. StudentB,say you can't do it and give a reason.
Sample conversation:
A:Can you have a picnic with me ?
B:I'm sorry.I have to babysit my little sister.
A:What about next Monday?
B:Ican't either.I am having a math lesson.......
Ask some pairs of students to present their conversations to the class.
Step7Grammar Focus
1.Can可以用来表示邀请他人做什么,对别人的邀请我们可以接受或拒绝,拒绝时要说明原因。有人邀请你时,你乐意接受,你应该说:
Sure!I'd love to.或Sure! I'd like to。注意 to不能省略,I'd=I would。
如果不能接受,我们可以说;
Thank you very much for your invitation.或Thanks for asking,接下来应该说明理由。如:I have to help my sister.
2.have to必须,不得不,表责任、义务。第三人称为has to。
have to 与 must 的区别 have to 是客观需要,而must是说话人的主观看法
