4 Major Cultural Differences between China and the US
1. Difference in social s_____________
In China, the social structure is formal and divided into
different classes. You know where you fit in the structure
and you follow the rules there.?There is no crossing into
other areas.?In America, it is much more loose and
informal.?It is not uncommon to see those of various social
levels socializing and knowing each other.?There are very
few lines that are not allowed to cross.

2. Difference in v_____________
People have different standards of what is more important in his life. A person from China is more likely to look at how their acts affect the whole instead of how it affects them personally. They are more willing to give up and sacrifice for the greater good. Contrary to the Chinese culture, westerners admire the extreme individualism, personal power and freedom. Therefore, their values are quite different.

3. Difference in r______________
Confucianism(儒家思想), Taoism, Buddhism are Chinese three major religions, which have far-reaching effect among the people. In Chinese traditional culture, they have 'King of Hell', and there is the myth(神话) of the 'Dragon King'. Buddhism believes everyone who fills Buddha in heart has the opportunity to become a real Buddha. In Europe and America, many people are the Christian faith; Christianity is only one God who is everything in this world. So, we have the popular proverb, 'Heaven is above all.' and 'Truth is the daughter of God'.

4. Difference in m___________
Chinese society attaches great importance to the morals of their people. For example, marriage is not encouraged until the late twenties. In fact, dating is discouraged early in a young adult’s life and proprieties(礼节) are expected to be held up. The American culture is much more relaxed and some could even argue that there needs to be more moral emphasis.

The movie The treatment follows the story of an immigrant Chinese family in U.S.A including the couple Xu, XuDatong and his wife Jian Ning. Both of them succeed in their own careers and they lead a happy middle-class American life with their cute son. But one day, their peaceful life is disturbed because of several pictures.
The main character Xu Datong is a video games designer in St. Louis. When his father visits from China, he performs a simple Chinese Medicine therapy(疗法) Gua Sha to his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a law suit(诉讼) of child abuse.
In the court, Datong loses his mind because of the judge’s arbitrary(随意的) judgement about Chinese value system so that he loses custody(监管) of his Son.
Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. Eventually, when his friend confirms that Gua Sha is undoubtedly a kind of cure treatment in China, it turns out to be a happy ending and the family gets together.
Do you remember the pipe he climbs? Actually, that pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture.
The character "Sha” can be seen as the conflicts between the two cultures .”Gua Sha"in Chinese means trying to narrow these differences and melt away the conflicts and misunderstanding. And the ideal result is to make the whole world a family, just as what the leading actor's name “Datong” implies.
