Why did Sam choose Elvis rather Than Big Joe Turner?
Prejudice and racial discrimination in the USA.
Born in 1935, Elvis Presley was a world-famous pop star and will always be loved by his fans. His parents were very poor. He started singing when he was only 2. He was given a guitar when he was 11. He made his first record at 17. During his lifetime, he made more than 200 records and 30 films. Later he was called ‘The King of Rock and Roll’. This reputation was mainly based on his powerful live performance.
But his musical life was cut short when he was drafted into the army. After he left the army, he never regained his earlier charm. He died in 1977.
