四、阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共10分)
In a foreign country, a man visited a local restaurant. He didn’t speak their language. He ordered something indecipherable off the menu. When the waiter brought him a plate of delicious looking fried noodles, he smiled and made an OK sign at the waiter with his thumb and forefinger linked in a circle. Looking angry, the waiter then picked up the dish and thrown it to his lap. What he did wrong, he wondered. Well, nothing is quite as it seems when it comes to using hand gesture in another country.
Gestures have been used to replace words in many countries, and they are often specific to a given culture. Gesture may mean something complimentary in one culture, but is highly offensive in another.
The gesture “thumb-up” is commonly misinterpreted. In English, it is popularly known as ‘thumbs up’, despite the fact that the action is commonly performed with only one hand. English-speaking Caucasians use it to signal ‘OK’, which is the same meaning as O.K. ring gesture. The two can in fact be used almost interchangeably(可互换地).
Avoid using this gesture in Southern Sardina or Northern Greece unless you want to invite a fight. While American, British and Australian would use the thumb up to signal hitch-hiking to the drivers, this message will not encourage a Greek driver or motorist to stop to give them a ride.
There are no right or wrong signals, only cultural differences. Lack of cultural understanding will lead to disharmony among people from different cultures. When we know what to look for, such encounters(特殊经历) with other cultures are actually very interesting, fascinating and fun. It is certainty a great topic to discuss over a cup of coffee and cakes.
26. What did the man in the first paragraph do wrong?
A. He misunderstood the waiter.
B. He made the signal in a rude way.
C. He ordered something off the menu.
D. He didn’t realize cultural differences.
27. What does the underlined word in the second paragraph mean?
A. Full of aggression. B. Full of admiration.
C. Full of complexity. D. Full of certainty.
28. What will happen if you make a thumb up toward a man in Northern Greece?
A. He will stop to give you a lift.
B. He will ask you to give him a HA.
C. He will get annoyed and fight against you.
D. He will make the same signal toward you.
29. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To tell stories about different cultures.
B. To advise us to have an understanding of cultural differences.
C. To explain the meaning of different gestures.
D. To persuade people from different countries to live in harmony.
五、七选五(每小题3分,共15分)
Body language is a form of communication without using words. 30. This means that the person using body language is not fully aware that they are using it. Some psychologists say that body language actually communicates more information than using words.
31. Human beings seem to know about other people by nature through their body language even when they speak a different verbal language. It is likely that in human prehistory, body language was an important survival skill that helped us to display and tell the difference between threats and safety.
Body language can communicate negative emotions. When a listener crosses their arms against their chest, it can mean disagreement with the speaker. This can also be indicated when a listener leans(倾斜) away from the speaker. 32. It can also mean disbelief.
Positive feelings are often shown through facial expressions, eye contact, and gestures. 33. When a person looks in another person’s eyes and then down at their lips, it usually means they have romantic(浪漫) feelings for the speaker. Standing or sitting straight with good gesture shows that a listener is taking the person’s speech seriously.
34. When a person is lying, they tend to touch their face during the conversation. They may also blink(眨眼) too much or not blink at all. Body language can reveal a lot about people but it’s important to remember that everyone’s body language is a little different, so learning to properly “read” information through body language can be helpful in interpersonal communication.
A. Lots of body language is actually unconscious.
B. Body language includes the use of gestures and eye movements.
C. Body language can even reveal when a person’s being dishonest.
D. A lack of eye contact can show a person is anxious or uncomfortable.
E. Smiling is obviously a universal sign of friendliness and appreciation.
F. People can practice body language to improve their ability to communicate.
G. Being able to “read” body language means being able to understand what a person thinks.

英 语 (二)
(本卷满分100分)
一、阅读理解(每小题2分,共16分)
A
Body Language in the United States
Most people shake hands and make eye contact when they meet people for the first time. Among very good friends, a woman may give another woman a little hug, and a man may kiss a woman quickly on the cheek. Males don’t hug one another, which, however, is changing. Men usually shake hands with the right hand. Sometimes they use the left hand to either cover the handshake or lightly hold the other person’s arm. This shows greater warmth and friendship. What’s more, most people wave hello or good-bye. This is important to know because in many other countries, the same movements mean “no”.
When people are waiting in a public place, such as the post office, they usually form lines. Some people get angry and complain if someone jumps ahead of other people. Moreover, many women like men to open doors for them. They also like men to give up their seats on public transportation. However, some women do not like this type of behavior. They feel that men and women should be treated in the same way.
In the United States, it’s important to make direct eye contact in business and social situations. If you don’t make eye contact, people will probably think that you are bored or not interested. If there is silence in these situations, people usually try to make conversation. People in the United States usually stand about one arm’s length away from each other while talking or standing together. This space is called “the comfort zone”.
In the United States, mothers sometimes show that they are angry with children by shaking an index finger(食指) at them. People may show that they like children by patting them on the head.
1. It can be inferred from Paragraph 1 that in the United State ________.
A. males begin to hug each other now
B. a man usually kisses a woman for greeting
C. people only use right hands to shake hands
D. people wave good-bye as people in many other countries do
2. Some women don’t like to be offered a seat by men because ________.
A. they think sitting is harmful for health B. they prefer to stand rather than sit
C. they like to be treated equally D. they don’t need men’s favor
3. The third paragraph is mainly about ________.
A. the comfort zone
B. impolite body language
C. body language in public places
D. body language in business and social life
4. A mother sometimes shakes an index finger at her kids to show ________.
A. love B. anger C. boredom D. satisfaction
B
There are various ways in which to read body language so that you can understand how someone is feeling. Reading emotional clues(线索) is one of them.
Crying is considered to be caused by an explosion of emotion in most cultures. Oftentimes crying is considered a sign of sadness, but crying can also be an expression of happiness. Crying can also come about through laughter and humor. Thus, when judging crying, you’ll need to look for other signs to determine the meaning of the crying. Crying can also be forced in order to gain sympathy or to cheat others. This practice is known as “crocodile tears”, an expression that draws on the wrong idea that crocodiles “cry” when catching prey(猎物).
Signs of threat include v-shaped eye brows, wide eyes, and an open or down-turned mouth. In a similar way, Arm tightly crossed over the other is a common sign that the person is angry and is closing himself off to you.
When people show anxiety, they display increased facial movements, and their mouth made into a thin line. Individuals who are anxious may also play with their hands, unable keep them in one spot. Anxiety can also or have nervous legs. It can be conveyed when people seemingly unconsciously(无意识地) tap their feet or have nervous legs.
Embarrassment can be expressed by turning the eyes or shifting them away, turning of the head and controlled or even tense smiles. If someone looks down at the floor a lot, they are probably shy, afraid, or embarrassed. People also tend to look down when they are upset, or trying to hide something emotional. People are often thinking and feeling unpleasant emotions when they are in the process of staring at the ground.
There are also some signs of pride. People show pride by displaying a small smile, holding their head backward, and putting their hands on their hips.
5. In what situation may one have “crocodile tears”?
A. When he is sad. B. When he cheats others.
C. When he supports others. D. When he is angry.
6. What might a man do when angry?
A. Shape his eye brows into a “w”. B. Sigh heavily.
C. Cross his arms tightly. D. Open his eyes wide.
7. What do we know about the emotional clues in the text?
A. Most of them show negative feelings.
B. They usually express positive emotions.
C. They can be controlled well be humans.
D. They are good for people’s health.
8. What is the best title for the passage?
A. How to use body languages? B. How to read emotional clues?
C. What expressive emotions we have? D. What are body languages?
二、七选五(每小题2分 ,共10分)
Body language provides a lot of information on what other people are thinking. A research has shown that 55% of communication comes from body language. 9._______ Next time you’re in a meeting, watch for these cues(暗示):
Real smiles crinkle(使起皱纹) the eyes. When it comes to smiling, the mouth can lie but the eyes can’t. Real smiles reach the eyes, crinkling the skin to create crow’s feet around them. People often smile to hide what they’re really thinking and feeling, so the next time you want to know if someone’s smile is real, look for crinkles at the corners of their eyes. 10.
11. Have you ever been in a meeting with someone and noticed that every time you cross or uncross your legs, they do the same? Or perhaps they lean their head the same way as yours when you’re talking? That’s actually a good sign. It means that the conversation is going well and that the other party accepts your message.
Eyes that lie. Most of us believe that it’s difficult to hold someone’s gaze(凝视) when they’re lying. But that’s such common knowledge that people will often try to hold eye contact, hoping to cover up the fact that they’re lying. 12. If you’re talking with someone whose gaze is making you uncomfortable, something is up and they might be lying to you.
Even if you can’t read a person’s exact thoughts, you can learn a lot from their body language. 13.
A. Copying your body language is a good thing.
B. If they aren’t there, that smile is hiding something.
C. Good sings lead to good conversations in a meeting.
