For years, Chris Scharoun DeForge had a Valentine's Day routine. She celebrated like clockwork with her husband Paul Scharoun DeForge. On Valentine's Day they would go out to eat, maybe at Red Lobster or Olive Garden. They were celebrating each other.
But this year's Valentine's Day may be the most unusual one yet. That's because it is their 25th as husband and wife, a landmark that would be significant for most couples but it's extraordinary for the Scharoun DeForges. They were both born with Down syndrome and are believed to be the longest married couple with the condition in the country.
At the time of their wedding, some folks believed that people like them didn't have the emotional maturity to be married. Chris, who as a girl used to cut wedding photos from magazines and hang them on her wall knew better. “I looked into his eyes and saw my future,” Chris said about falling in love with Paul when they first met at a dance 30 years ago.
Still, they have had their struggles. And the most recent one may be the most monumental (极大的). This year's Valentine's Day is the first on which they won't be living together. Paul, 54, is coping with early stage dementia, an illness that affects many with his condition at a relatively young age. Several months ago, the state moved him into a community residence (住处) with intensive nursing care while Chris still lives in their cozy apartment in Liverpool.
Of course Chris doesn't want to be without him. Their family worked hard to keep them together. They even found a new apartment that met the state's standards. At first, the state agreed-a huge victory-but Paul's condition continued to deteriorate. By that time he was using a wheelchair and required round-the-clock care. The state decided he needed to move to the facility after all.
The couple is disappointed but not scared. Chris visits Paul regularly and they spend weekends together. Chris’s sister said they had an unconditional and sweet love.
26.Why is this year’s Valentine’s Day special to the Scharoun DeForges?
A.They will go out to eat at Red Lobster.

D.They moved into a community residence together.
29.What may be the best title for the text?

Jeremy Locke, who owns a roofing and construction company in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, had always been wanting to repair the roof of Jeanette MacDonald's home. Whenever he drove past the woman's home, he assumed that the roof was under repair because the job had already been taken on by another group of repairmen—but as the weeks wore on, the roof continued to worsen without any signs of repair.
“ I had it in my mind that if no one steps up to help this lady in our community, I’d be more than happy to,” Locke told CBC.
When Locke finally reached out to MacDonald about fixing her roof for free, however, she politely declined his offer because she did not like to accept charity. That being said, she had already applied for a government grant (补助金)to fix the roof and she said she was more than happy to hire Locke once her grant application was approved.
Unfortunately, MacDonald never received the approval.
As the stubborn(固执的)Canadian senior refused to accept any assistance from Locke, the sympathetic construction worker played an innocent trick in order to get her to accept his help. He invited MacDonald to enter a raffle (抽奖活动)that his business was holding for a free roof. After the grandmother of four accepted one of the raffle tickets, Locke told her that she was the winner—because she was the only one who had entered the raffle.
Thanks to his sweet little plan, Locke and his crew are starting work on the roof this week, which is expected to cost his company about $9, 000.
MacDonald, meanwhile, told CBC that she doesn't know how to express her gratitude to Locke, saying that he is her “guardian angel”.
"There's nobody out there like him," she added.
30.What did Locke desire to do for MacDonald?
A.Repair her roof. B.Find a repairman.
C.Run a charity. D.Raise money.
31.Why did MacDonald refuse Locke's offer initially?
A.She didn't trust him. B.She had won a raffle.
C.She didn't like free help. D.She had got an official grant.
32.How did Locke finally make MacDonald change her mind?
A.He persuaded her to give up her application.
B.He invited her to enter his business.
C.He gave her about $9, 000.
D.He told her a white lie.
33.Which of the following words best describe Locke?
A.Stubborn and tricky. B.Wealthy and innocent.
C.Determined and warm-hearted. D.Different and ambitious.

英 语 (二)
(本卷满分100分)
一、阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共25分)
A
The ways of narration (讲述) in novels are various. Wuthering Heights has a difficult narrative structure. The story begins in 1801. It is first narrated by Lockwood, a visitor staying in Thrushcross Grange, one of the two houses, where we can meet different characters in the novel. Lockwood is a narrow, dull man and also a bad man who lives emotionally through a dirty interest in the lives of others. It is this side of his character that leads into the main narrative stream of the novel. His interest in what he sees and experiences on his visits to Wuthering Heights leads him to encourage Nelly Dean, the house-keeper at the Grange, to provide him with the information concerning the people that he has met: Heathcliff, Cathy, Hareton, Joseph and, of course, the ghost of Catherine.
Nelly Dean’s story forms the major part of the narrative. While Nelly is meant to be an objective narrator, she has a lot to do with what has happened over the past twenty-five years that have led to the present state of affairs. Therefore, as readers, we need to realize how Nelly presents events and characters and her own role in determining the course of events.
The final part of the novel concerns the immediate future and provides us with the results of Lockwood’s visit to the Heights and the appearance of Catherine’s ghost. It is narrated by both Lockwood and Nelly.
Finally, Isabella, the wife of Heathcliff, through a letter, narrates one middle part of the novel. Although this narrative structure may, at first, be very difficult, it is necessary because in the world of the novel, time order of the years is not so important.
1.From the first paragraph, we can know the first narrator is ______.
A.Lockwood B.Thrushcross
C.Heathcliff D.Nelly Dean
2.What is special about the middle part of the novel?
A.One part of it is written in the form of a letter.
B.It describes how Isabella and Heathcliff got separated.
C.It is the most difficult part in the novel.
D.One part of it suggests Catherine has been dead
3.This passage is quite probably ______.
A.a piece of news B.a part of a novel
C.a writing instruction D.a reading guide

In 2019, to which we’re to say goodbye, we’ve seen many blockbusters, which surely leave a deep impression on us. Do you still have a fresh memory of them? Below has picked three for you. Let’s take a look.
Spider-Man: Far From Home, July 5, US
Tom Holland, the lead actor of 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming returns to play Peter Parker, a high school student who gains superpowers after being bitten by a spider.
When we see him again in theaters, Spider-Man will have a new red-and-black suit. The movie will take the famous wall-crawler on a global adventure outside of the US. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Spider-Man will try a return to his “normal” self; he will try to find his old powers on his new journey.
Hobbs and Shaw, July 26, US
To most people the Fast and Furious series is all about crazy drivers racing in sports cars. But in Hobbs and Shaw, humor is added to the action-packed thrills.
The new film will hit US theaters on July 26. Famous English actor Jason Statham will star alongside Dwayne Johnson, “The Rock”, as Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs respectively (分别地), as in their previous appearances in Fast and Furious films.
When the pair fought face to face in Fast and Furious 8 (2017), a confrontation (对峙) was considered as the “battle model for warriors”. The action and chemistry really excited their audience.
But the new action scenes between an MI6 agent Hobbs and the killer Shaw will have to be good to beat their performance in the 2017 movie.

The end of the year is drawing near, and winter is in full swing. The season brings along with it strong winds and snow — an environment that’s never comfortable to be in.
This unpleasant and even frightening aspect of winter can often be seen in literature. In Shakespeare’s King Lear (1606), the king has given away his kingdom and been rejected by his two ungrateful daughters. He is out in the winter cold, suffering things that are usually reserved for the poorest and most unfortunate human beings.
The winter is bad enough for Lear, but being abandoned by his family is worse. A song from another Shakespeare play, As You Like It(1599), is fitting for this poor old man's situation: "Blow, blow, thou winter wind/Thou art not so unkind /As ma's ingratitude (忘恩负义)". Here, winter is used to bring out the ugliness of inhumanity (无人性). There aren't many things that are worse than winter, according to Shakespeare.
Once winter became less of a threat to human beings, literary works featuring it became more positive. Since Charles Dickens, the representation of the season in literature has often featured happy Christmas celebrations.
The cold of the winter weather provides a contrast to the fun going on indoors.
Dickens' A Christmas Carol (1843) was the start of this, but Christmas is still a common, cheery element (元素)in stories that feature winter scenes today. Consider the joy felt by Harry Potter and his friends in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997) as they sit down for their festive meal:
"Harry had never in all his life had such a Christmas dinner. A hundred fat, roast turkeys; mountains of roast and boiled potatoes; platters of chipolatas; tureens of buttered peas, silver boats of thick, rich gravy and cranberry sauce".
It is almost as much a pleasure to read about the meal as it might have been to eat it.
Although winter still isn’t the most cheerful season in novels and poems, it’s safe to say that writers have certainly "warmed up" since Shakespeare’s days.
7.What’s the author’s main purpose in writing this article?

8.What can we learn from Shakespeare’s works?

B.King Lear was forced to give up being a king in a cold winter.
C.It’s in winter when King Lear drove his two daughters off.
D.Winter is compared with the ugly side of humanity.
9.Why does the author mention Charles Dickens in the passage?
A.Because a lot of his works are related to winter.
B.Because he is the most popular author of winter stories.
C.Because he started a new way of representing winter.
D.Because his works make people feel cheerful in winter.
10.The example of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is used mainly to show .
A.traditional Christmas food makes the winter cheery
