一. 时间状语从句

every time,each time
since,before,after,until,till,once
the moment,the minute,on,the instant, immediately,as soon as,hardly..when..., no sooner... than...
when的用法
when“当……的时候”从句的动词是延续性的/短暂性的。
When they came back, I was cooking.
When I was leaving the house, the postman arrived.
2. When “就在这时”常用于下列固定句式：
be doing …when
be about to do…when
be on the point of doing... when…
Example:
I was studying when my phone rang.
I was about to get out the room when he arrived.
1. “当……的时候”,从句的动作必须是延续性的；“趁”
Please don’t talk so loud while others are working.
Strike while the iron is hot.
2. while“尽管，虽然”，相当于although
3. while意为“而，却”，表示对比。
Jane was dressed in brown while Mary was
dressed in blue.
while的用法
1. “一边…一边”； “随着”
She was doing her homework as she was listening to the music.
As the day went on, the weather got worse.（?）
2. “因为、由于”
As she is free today, she would like to do some shopping.
as的用法
3. “尽管”（常用倒装）
1. __________, he refused to take a rest. (尽管他很累)
2.___________, he knows a lot.（尽管他是个孩子）
3.___________, he wouldn’t succeed.（尽管他就尝试）
注意：从句通常将作表语的adj/n.、作状语的adv、 作谓语的do(情态动词后的动词原形)提到句首, 但单数名词前的冠词必须省略。）

自从她参军已经三年了。

It will be two years before he leaves the country.

It was three weeks before he came back.

从句和主句的时态： 1. 一致：过去式 2.主将从现
until (till)
He waited until/till his mother came back.
He will not go to bed until(till) his mother comes.
肯定句:(一直)...为止
(否定句):直到...才
倒装句
Not until all the fish died in the river _____________________ (村民才意识到) how serious the pollution was.
强调句
It wasn’t until all the fish died in the river that the villagers realized how...
原句：The villagers didn't realize how the pollution was until all the fish died in the river.

句型：一... 就...
翻译：他一到就打电话给我.
He telephoned me as soon as he arrived.

hardly...when... ;no sooner... than...
I had no sooner got home than it began to rain.

every time,each time（连词）
Every time/each time I come, he is reading.
once:一旦...就...
她一旦下了决心,什么也不能使她改变.
Once she made up her mind, nothing can change it.
二 原因状语从句
cause adverbial clause
because, as, since, for
now that，considering that, seeing that
Because he was ill,he didn’t go to school.
He didn’t go to school because of his illness.
He was ill,so he didn’t go to school.
Being ill, he didn’t go to school.
since=now that
Now that class is over, let’s go to play football.
既然
as表示十分明显的原因，重点放在主句上，语气较弱，常译成“由于”.
As it’s getting darker, we must go home now.
for 解释说明
He must be ill, _______.(因为他今天没来)
三 条件状语从句
conditional adverbial clause
if,unless,so/as long as, in case
on condition that, provided that,providing that,suppose that, supposing that

If you work harder,you will succeed.

让步状语从句
concession adverbial clause
as,although,though,whether,even if/though,while
no matter who/when/what..., however, whatever...
“虽然”、“尽管”、“即使”
Although／Though she is old ,he works hard.
He is old,but he works hard.
Old as he is ,he works hard.
用as 引导的让步状语从句用倒装语序，即把从句中的表语、状语或动词原形放在as前面.
尽管我很喜欢它，我不会买。
Much as I like it ,I won’t buy it.
Even though you say so,I don’t believe it.
Whenever you come to our country,you will be warmly welcomed. （＝？）
However late, his mother will wait for him to have dinner together.（＝？）
六 目的状语从句
objective adverbial clause

注：从句中常使用一些情态动词：can, could, may, might, should等.
He got up early so that he could catch the train.
=He got up early to/in order to/so as to catch the train.

Dear Alice,
How nice to hear from you! Not until I read your letter did I know the true state affairs,for we haven’t seen each other since we parted. Now that we are all busy, I just have to drop a few lines to you. The fact that you were not promoted although you worked hard didn’t show you didn’t perform well. So whatever happens, we shall never lose heart and in fact, the harder you work, the more you will get. As time goes by, we should have a better understanding of things around us. Don’t forget to come and see me next time you come to Jieyan.
