How should a mother talk to her children at a young age? It influences (影响)the children’s social skills later in childhood, a study from UK says.
The study found that if children’s mothers often talked to them about people’s feelings, they developed social understanding better. However, this effect becomes weaker from ages 10 to 12, perhaps because as children get older, they spend less time at home, and their friends and teachers influence them more.
Researchers(研究员) encourage(鼓励) parents to talk to children when they are watching television or movies together. "What may the characters be feeling? They can ask the question like that. And, if someone is shouting in the supermarket, this is another chance to talk to a child about other peoples feelings.
It's important for parents to give children vocabularies(词汇) feelings. Children don’t always realize what their feelings are and need to have words to describe them. A researcher said, "Let’s say when a young child takes a toy away from another young child. It’s helpful for parents to say something like ‘That makes him sad when you take it. ’rather than saying ‘Stop it. ’”
Social understanding is important, but it isn’t everything. Children who showed good social skills in the study also behaved negatively. They ran a model car over their mothers' in the test. That’s because the children felt more comfortable when they did it. "So helping children have social understanding is just the first step for young mothers,a researcher says
( )51. Which of the following is TRUE about a mothers influence on her children?
A. The older the children are the more the influence is.
B. A mother's influence is more than a father's.
C. The influence becomes weaker from ages 10 to 12.
D. A mother should talk with her children all the time.
( )52. If a person is shouting in the supermarket, parents should say to their children.
A.“ Others will be angry” B.“ You shouldn’t shout like that!”
C. "The person is very rude.” D. "What is the person doing?”
( )53. The underlined word"negatively means“ ” in Chinese.

B. helping children have social understanding is the most
C. helping children have social understanding is important but not everything
D. it's the most difficult for young mothers to help their children have social understanding
( )55. The research mainly tells us .
