宾语从句
Noun clauses as
the object
宾语从句是主从复合句的一种。
主从复合句是由一个主句和一个或
一个以上的从句构成的。主句是复
合句的主体,从句仅仅是主句的一个
成分,它从属于主句,不能独立。从句
在全句中充当什么成分,就叫什么从句。
宾语从句当中的从句在全句中作宾语。
引导宾语从句的词有:
连词that(在口语中that常可省略)
if, whether
He knows that Jim will work hard.
连接代词who, whose, what, which
Do you know who (whom) they are
waiting for?
连接副词when, where, how, why
Could you tell me how we can get to
the station?
whether/if
whether和if都有“是否”的意思,一般情
况下两者可以换用,但在介词之后、不
定式之前、与or not连用、在句首或在
引导表语从句、同位语从句时,只能用
whether。
I want to know if/whether the news is true.
He doesn't know whether to stay or not.
动词doubt用在疑问句或否定句时,其后宾语从句常用that作连接词;用在肯定句时,连接词用whether或if皆可,而不用that。
Do you doubt that he will win?
I don't doubt that your proposition is wrong.
He doubts whether/if I know it.

表语从句
Noun clauses as
the predicative
一个从句在复合句中作主句的表
语,这个从句就叫作表语从句。
The problem is that millions of people
die of illnesses caused by smoking.
The question remains whether we can
win the people.
1. 从属连词that(一般不省略为好),
whether(不用if),as if(though)等
引导的表语从句。
The reason (why) she hasn't come is
that (此处不可用because) she has to
take her mother to a hospital.
她没来是因为她必须送母亲去医院。
2. 连接代词what, which, who等引导的
表语从句。
This is what I want to say.
这就是我想说的。
3. 连接副词when, where, how, why等
引导的表语从句。
This is how we overcome the difficulties.
这就是我们克服困难的方法。
宾语从句在复合句中起宾语的作用,可以作动词的宾语,也可以作介词的宾语。
表语从句在复合句中作句子的表语。

从句的语用功能
英语复合句一般有三大类:名词性(主语、宾语、表语和同位语)从句;形容词性(定语)从句;副词性(状语)从句。
在复合句中起名词作用的从句叫名词性从句。
正确、快速理解英语的复杂句子是提高英语阅读和写作能力的一个重要方面。
学会正确把握句子结构、熟练使用主从复合句:能更准确的理解句子所传递的信息,提高阅读理解能力;能写出更简明、流畅的文段,更贴切、优美的语句,提高写作水平。
