[2019河北那台市期末考试]A study has found that a lifetime of regular exercise and activity can slow down the aging process (衰老过程).Researchers say that getting older should not necessarily mean becoming weaker or sicker. Their research shows that the devotion to a life of movement and exercise may help us live not only longer, but also more healthily.
For their study, the researchers looked at two groups. The first group was made up of 125 non- professional cyclists between the ages of 55 to 79. This group included 84 healthy men and 41 healthy women. This group was called the " cyclists".
Researchers then found 130 people to make up a second group. Within this group, 75 people were aged from 57 to 80. The other 55 were between the ages of 20 and 36. The people in this group were also healthy, but they did not exercise regularly. This group was called the M non-exercisers" . Smokers, heavy drinkers of alcohol and people with other health issues were not included in the study.
Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. They tested their muscle mass (肌肉质量), muscular strength, percentage of body fat and the strength of their immune systems (免疫系统).Then the researchers compared the results of the two groups.
Results showed that the cyclists did not experience body changes usually regarded as a normal aging process. For example, they did not lose muscle mass or muscular strength. Also, their body fat did not increase with age.
The researchers also found something they had not expected. The study showed that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either.
The researchers advise us all to find the exercise that we like in our lives.

Next time you make yourself a hot cup of tea or coffee, you might want to cool it down a bit before drinking.
Researchers say letting your hot drinks cool off could help you avoid some kinds of cancer. Researchers at the International Agency for Research on Cancer ( IARC) found evidence that drinks at temperatures above 65 ℃,when swallowed, can cause cancer of the esophagus (食道).The researchers examined findings from other studies where tea and coffee were often served at 70℃or above. Those studies were completed in Iran,China and South America.
In developed countries, health experts have linked esophageal cancer to smoking and alcoholic drinks. However, this form of cancer is more common in areas where people drink beverages (饮料)at very high temperatures.
In Europe and the United States, many people drink coffee and tea at temperatures around 60 ℃. And they often add milk which lowers the temperature greatly. However, tea-drinkers in Iran often enjoy their beverages at temperatures close to 70℃.
The researchers found that South Americans not only drink their very hot beverages, but they also drink them through a metal straw. This sends the scalding liquid directly into the throat.
The findings, however, are good news for coffee drinkers. In 1991,the World Health Organization (WHO) listed coffee as the possibly carcinogenic (致癌的).The WHO officials have since changed their position on that listing. They now suggest that the temperature of your hot drink is a greater risk factor than the actual drink.
The results suggest that drinking very hot beverages is one probable cause of esophageal cancer and that it is the temperature, rather than the drink itself, that appears to be responsible.
5. What might be the cause of esophageal cancer according to the passage?
A. Smoking.
B. Alcoholic drinks.
C. Unhealthy vegetables.
D. Hot drinks.
6. Where do tea-drinkers liking adding milk come from?
A. China.
B. Iran.
C. The United States.
D. South Africa.
