四、教学过程
Step 1 Leading in
Show some pictures about famous people to the students and then ask them who they are.

T: Hello, welcome to learn the new topic-great people. Are you interested in this topic? First, I’d like you to tell me how many famous people you know and who they are and why they are well-known to us in our daily life.
Step 2 Discussion
Show students some pictures of famous people cut out of magazines or newspapers, such as Jackie Chan, Yao Ming, Yang Liwei, Gong Li, Zhang Yimou and then ask them some questions.
T: Hello, everyone. I bring you some pictures about some famous people. Do you want to learn more about them? Let’s discuss what contributions they’ve made to us Chinese.
Step 3 Presentation
1. Learning.
Present students with the pictures about Christopher Columbus bus, William Shakespeare, Qian Xuesen, Thomas Edison, Nelson Mandela, Peter Tchaikovsky, Neil Armstrong, Ask them if they know these people and require them to tell why these people are worthy of respect and what changes these people have brought g mankind.

If students have any difficulty in expressing their ideas, they can do it in Chinese.
2. Practicing.
Firstly, give students two or three minutes to do the exercise in Part A. Then ask them to remember the vocabulary by heart.
Secondly, ask students to do the exercise in Part B.
Thirdly, go back to Part A. Tell students to write out the names of these famous people as soon as possible on the basis of Part B.
At last, ask students to make a sentence according to each picture. For example, Christopher Columbus is an Italian. He is the first explorer to discover America. If necessary, students especially the weakers can copy the sentences into their notebooks.
3. Listening.
Play the tape about the comic strip for students to listen to. After that, ask them some questions:
(1)Who does Eddie think is the greatest person that has ever lived? (Paul Yum.) And why? (Because he invented Eddie’s favourite dog food.)
(2)Does Hobo know about Paul Yum? (No, he doesn’t.)
Play the tape again and ask students to read after the tape.
4. Performance.
After students have become familiar with the dialogue A, encourage some top students to come to the front to act the dialogue out. Remind them that the more vividly they perform, the higher marks they will get. Finally, it is necessary for the teacher and other students to make a comment about their performance.
Step 4 Further discussion
Provide students with the topic:
Who do you think is the greatest person that has ever lived?
What has he/ she done to the world?
Ask them to have a discussion freely.
Step 5 Summary
Vocabulary: inventor, explorer... Russian.

四、教学过程
Step 1 Revision
Show the pictures about students going to school and having lunch, and then ask them to make sentences using simple present. E.g. They go to school by bike every day. (one by one)
Step 2 Learning the Part A
1. Tell the students that we use simple present in these situations.
(1)daily routine and habits: always, usually, often, sometimes, twice a day.
I always go to bed at 10p.m.
He usually goes to school by bus.
(2)actions in general: every weekend, every year, every Sunday.
He helps his mother with housework every Sunday.
They take a bath every two weeks.
(3)present actions happening one after another School is over and the students go home.
He gets up quickly and goes to work in a hurry.
(4)actions set by a timetable or schedule Class begins at six in the morning.
The talk show starts late in the evening.
2. Students make sentences using “simple present” according to the pictures.
3. Tell the students that we use present continuous in these situations.
(1)actions happening at the same time: while, and.
Mum is doing housework and I am working on the computer.
He is listening to the radio while she is playing the piano.
(2)arrangement for the near future I am leaving for Shanghai tonight.
He’s coming soon.
(3)actions in a limited period of time I am working on a project this week.
He is reading a story these days.
Students show some sentences using “present continuous”.
Then complete the exercise.
Step 3 Learning the Part B
Show the two sentences:
1. Simon played football yesterday.
2. Simon was playing football at six yesterday.
Explain to the students when we should use simple past and past continuous.
Then the teacher shows some more sentences to let the students tell the students tell the differences between them. At last, the teacher gives a complete summary.
3. Do exercise with the students and check their answers.
Step 4 Learning the Part C
Show two sentences:
1. I bought a new bicycle.
2. I have bought a new bicycle.
And tell students the differences between them: one is telling us what happened in the past and the other is telling us the result of a past action or telling whether/how many times an action has happened till now.
Remind that we should pay more attention to the adverbial of time.
Ask the students to work on their own to complete the sentences on P28. Then check their answers with the class.
Step 5 Conclusion
The students go through the knowledge according to the big screen.
Step 6 Homework
1. Review the grammar.
2. Using different adverbials of time to write sentences.

She also pushed for the use of X-ray machines, which are now widely used in hospitals.

四、教学过程
Step 1 Presentation
Ask students to present what they have collected from the Internet about Marie Curie.
T: Boys and girls, yesterday I told you to find out some information about the great woman, Marie Curie. I believe you have known her more or less. (Ask them to present their information about Marie Curie.)Now I will show a profile about her to you. Tell me what you can know from the profile. (Have students discuss it in pairs. Five minutes later ask them to show the class his or her opinion.)
Step 2 Learning the Part A
1. Read and do Part Al.
Read the introduction about Marie Curie. From the reading, even the less able students can get some elementary information on Marie Curie just like the date of birth, the place of birth, her husband and so on. After that, ask them to fill in the blanks using the information they got from the short passage.
2. Listen and finish Part Al.
Play the tape for students to listen to. Students should listen carefully to complete the rest of Milie’s notes. Of course meanwhile they should check the answers they have got in the last step. The teacher can let students listen to the tape twice.
3. Discussion
Divide students into eight groups. Encourage them to ask and answer questions about Marie Curie to each other. They can raise some questions according to the notes.
e.g. When and where was she born?
What did she study in college?
Who married her?
In 1898, what did the couple discover?
How many Nobel Prizes did she get?
In a word, the more, the better. Only in that way can we let students become more and more familiar with Marie Curie. It is also good for students to complete the biographical passage in Part A3.
4. Practice
On the basis of the steps above, ask students to complete the biographical passage in Part A3 according to all the information they have got Now it’s easy for students to do this task. But don’t forget to ask them to read aloud the passage again and again. This is good for later writing.
Step 3 Learn the Part B
1. Listen to the recorder and answer the following questions.
(1)Who does Simon admire most?
(2)What did Marie Curie discover?
2. Work in pairs to practice the dialogue.
3. Act it out.
4. Make up another dialogue like the model.
Step 4 Learning “Study skills”
The teacher give students some formal English and informal English such as “hello, hi, NBA, Dec. we’ll, he’d” or “lots of love, yours truly, cheers, have a big mouth, all wet”. Then tell the students they are widely used in our spoken English and written English. Next, the students give some examples.
The students with the teacher finish checking the language of the letter to J. K. Rowling.
Step 5 Homework
1. Finish the exercises in the exercise book.
2. Preview “Task” Part.

Step 1 Revision
Review key vocabulary according to the general ability of the class.
Step 2 Presentation (Part A)
1. Divide the class into three groups.
When students skim the text on their own, ask them to underline the words they do not know. Then go through the words students have underlined.
2. On the blackboard, write the headings related to the text. Ask each group to go through the text again and find words or expressions to match each heading. Invite students from each group to come forward and write their words and expressions under the correct headings.
Step 3 Presentation (Part B)
1. Ask them to do Part B1 on their own. Encourage them to check their answers with a partner. Then ask students to read out the answers.
2. Ask students to finish Part B1 and then read them aloud. The teacher may ask some top students to explain the meanings of the words in English with books closed.
Step 4 Presentation (Part B2)
1. Divide the class into teams of 4-5 students. Do Part B2 and B3 as a quiz. Set a time limit.
2. Ask students to correct the false sentences.
3. Complete Part B4. Then ask the students to give more questions.
