Many colleges and universities have expanded their enrollment since 1998 to meet the needs of the rapid development of society, college students and the nation as a whole.
On the one hand, they want to train more qualified people to satisfy the need of the job market. On the other hand, the expansion has entitled many high school graduates to the right of receiving higher education so that the intellectual standards of our nation will be raised.
However, many problems have been brought about. Firstly, the development of the teaching facilities and accommodation capacities of many colleges and universities cannot keep pace with the expansion of enrollment. Secondly, the average quality of the freshmen is declining because the criteria of selection are lowered. In the long run, this will definitely deteriorate the higher education.
