A
Right from my childhood, I have always been inspired by my parents—their passion towards their profession and how they have handled success and failure in their life. I am very fortunate to have the kind of upbringing(养育) I have had. They have always drawn attention to the importance of being a good human being first. They taught me values that will always stay with me. Both my parents were doctors, so I am sure they would have loved me to become a doctor, but finally I took up cricket. In the early 1990s, cricket was a very amateur sport. It was nothing like what it is today. But my parents gave me the freedom to choose cricket as my career.
They have always told me that it is not the career that determines the nature of you, but instead, you have to determine the nature of the profession you choose and glorify(美化) it. In fact, I know a lot of my friends who were not allowed to go after their passions or dreams, but I have been very fortunate. Today, when I am a father myself of two lovely kids, I always fall back on my parents' teachings when it comes to dealing with them. I know what difference my parents' teachings made to my life, so I now try and do the same with my kids.
A lot of people also ask me who I am close to—my father or my mother. I always say, both. I can share almost anything with them and be confident that they will help me out. I actually admire my mom because of the way she tried to deal with her career, home and kids at the same time.

Abigail Adams was born in the small town of Weymouth, Massachusetts. When Abigail was a girl, she did not receive a formal education. Only boys went to school at that time in history. However, her mother taught her to read and write. She often went to her father's library where she was able to learn new ideas and educate herself. Abigail was an intelligent girl who wished that she could attend school, But she couldn't, which led her to argue for women's rights later on in life.
Abigail was a young lady when she first met John Adams, a young lawyer. They got married on October 25, 1764. In 1768, the family moved to the big city of Boston. During this time relations between the American colonies(殖民地) and Great Britain were getting worse. Events such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party broke out in the town where Abigail was living. John began to take a major role in the revolution. He was chosen to attend the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. On April 19, 1775 the American Revolutionary War began.
With John away at the Continental Congress,Abigail had to take care of the family alone. During the war Abigail wrote many letters to her husband about all that were happening. Over the years they wrote over 1,000 letters to each other. It is from these letters that we know what it must have been like on the home front(大后方) during the American Revolutionary War.
John Adams became president in 1796 and Abigail became the First Lady of the United States.Abigail had strong opinions on many political issues. She was against slavery and believed in the equal rights of all people, including black people and women. Ⅴ.短文改错
On Thanksgiving morning I got up early to run in a race. It was just above freezing. So every runner was jumping around trying to stay warmly.
By the roadside was a man wrapping in a blanket. He was obviously homeless and most people pretended not see him. I went over and talked with him. We talked about all sort of things. It always hurts to see someone going through so a rough time. He didn't ask me for anything, and I wanted to do something for him. I gave him all the cash which I had. At the first he didn't want to accept it but I insisted. Then he said something surprised. He said, “This has been so nice. Thank you. I hadn't really talked to anybody in a long time.” It was he who showed me how to smile through the rough times.

(2019年黑龙江省齐齐哈尔市一模)
83?year?old Antonio Vicente has spent the last four decades of his life fighting against the trend. As Brazilian landowners cut down rainforests to make room for profitable plantations(种植园) and cattle grounds,he struggled to bring the jungles of his childhood back to life.
“When I was a child, the peasants cut down the trees to make grasslands and charcoal, and the water dried up and did not come back,”he told the reporters,“I thought:‘Water is valuable,no one makes water and the population will not stop growing. What is going to happen? We are going to run out of water.'”
With only some donkeys and a small team of hired workers,Antonio Vicente set about bringing back the forest to his land. What started out as a weekend hobby soon became a permanent way of life, and Antonio recalls often spending whole days and nights in his young jungle, surrounded by rats and foxes, and eating banana sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Over the last 40 years,he has planted an estimated 50,000 trees on his 31?hectare land, which now make up a small but unique area of rainforest, and a haven for wildlife.
As the forest grew, the water returned, and Antonio says that there are now over 20 water, sources on his land that were no longer there when he bought it.Then the animals started making a home there,Today, the forest is alive with the sounds of birds and insects living there, and more species are settling in every year.
“There are toucans(巨嘴鸟),all kinds of birds, squirrels, lizards, and even the boars are returning,”83?year?old Vicente says,“If you ask me who my family are,I would say all this right here, each one of these that I planted from a seed.”
21.What do we learn about the Brazilian peasants?
